I think the episode was more of a classic anime pastiche. Inspector Tezuka is pretty clearly named after Astro Boy's creator, but she appears to be modeled after Zenigata from Lupin, and one of the bikers wears a clown helmet that I'm pretty sure is referencing AKIRA, (though funnily enough they didn't do the "Kaneda motorcycle slide. Maybe that was too obvious.) There were also some other references that have already been mentioned, like the Sailor Moon cosplayer and whatnot.

Let's go with 90% Astro Boy, 10% other.
Starting with the fact that Boyd was a robot boy who wants to be a real live boy.
His original name 2 Bee-Oh == Tobio.
Feet morph into rockets to fly.
I'm guessing the 50's hoodlums on scooters were inspired by the original series, but I haven't actually seen a complete episode in more than 50 years.

Also, a lot of tropes from Manga and Anime were inspired by Tetsuwan Atomu in the first place.

I mean ... Sure Astro Boy have the most references in the episode by a mile... but i frankly don't expect the majority to catch onto them anywhere near as much, due to the general population being much more aware about of Sailor Moon to catch that

Bwah hah hah. I loved it. Ragnarok meets the WWE. Shield Maiden! Captain Crash!! It's too bad they had to call her Heka instead of Hel though. I don't seem to recall a Strongbeard in Nordic Myth, although that is a funny effect.

It's funny. I can't stand "real" wrestling, but I love shows like this that parody it.

I honestly doubt that they had to call her Heka. It's more likely that it's a funny/cute alternative that they wanted to go for.

Fenris got renamed Fenreer, so presumably it's the same effect that got Hercules renamed Storkules.

Also, for a season that's supposed to be Huey centric, this is the third (of six) episodes to focus heavily on Dewey.

Huh. I was watching "Last Christmas" again and when Scrooge is hiding from the party, one of the responsibilities he is ditching is "secretly keeping the world eating serpent Jormungardr at bay." Nice foreshadowing.

Yay! Two new episodes. Just got done watching The Phantom and the Sorceress! Couldn't wait to post, back later after watching They Put a Moonlander on the Earth!

Great episode. Did the Phantom Blot always have that "totally not the infinity-gauntlet" gauntlet? I was laughing hysterically at the great magical duel between Magika and PB.
