Default And The Gold Medal Goes To... (Movement speed optimization question)

Hey playground, I've been thinking about an odd thought experiment. What is the highest achievable one round movement speed in 5e, disregarding teleportation effects like dimension door and teleport? Minor teleportation effects like the weaker Nomad discipline powers are fine, but the one mile teleport isn't what I have in mind.

Ah...I was doing this recently! Mach 4.12

    Psion (Immortal, v3) 9/Barbarian (Elk) 5/Monk 2/Fighter 2/Wizard (Bladesinger) 2 Tabaxi Urchin

    Allies: A Druid 17 & Wizard (Transmuter) 6/Psion (Avatar) 1

    Base Speed: 345'

Items: Boots of Speed & Potion of Speed

Multipliers: 2*2*2*2 (Boots, Haste, Urchin, Tabaxi) = 16

    What Happens:
    BA: Activate Celerity
    Use Movement
    A: Dash
    AS: Dash
    Haste: Dash
Reaction: Move via Crown of Rage from Ally 2

    Calcs: 345*16*5 = 27,600; 27,600/6/1116.5 (Speed of Sound) = ~4.12

how you get the base speed of 345?

    what I get:
    lets upgrade:
    tabaxi, urchin
    Moon druid 2 = horse 60ft
    Fighter 2 = action surge
    barbarian elk 5 = +25ft
    monk 2 = +10ft.
    bladesinger 2 = +10ft.
    mystic 6 = +10ft. (focus celerity)
    Artificer 1 = +20ft
    Mobile +10
    longstride +10
    boon of speed +30
    major property artifact +10,
transmuter stone +10 (stolen from wizard).
boots of speed for horse = x2
    potion of speed = haste

allies: druid circle of dreams lv 20, balm of the summer court for +100"
mystic with focus in Mantle of Fury +5

    base 310'*16= 4960

movement + dash + action surge dash + haste dash + bonus action (monk) dash + reaction (Mindless Charge) = 29760

    Mighty Leap (5pp) +100ft
Wind Step (5pp) +100ft fly movement

    29960

Since it hasnt been mentioned yet in this thread, it's possible to break the speed of light. You need to be a Vengeance Paladin with the Tunnel Fighter fighting style from the Underdark UA (or Polymorphed into a Marilith). Then you need something to provoke a LOT of opportunity attacks, because with Vengeance Paladin each OA lets you move. The preferred method for doing so in the original thread was something like 150 million pigeons, properly arranged along your intended path, all taking the Ready action to move (and thus provoke an OA) once you threaten them.

    Mindless charge from your ally
One of focus is from your ally, celerity is self.
How can you be a quickling and keep ypur old features? Shapechange is self and true polymorph remove your old features.

OoV feature say "when you use your reaction", tunnel fighter don't use reaction, so this isn't perfectly correct, but with some interpretation...

    1. Scroll of Shapechange
    2. I was referring to Mighty Leap and Wind Step
    3. My base speed is now 450 adding in the Dream Duid, dropping Monk levels 1 Artificer, and my ally using Mantle of Fury instead. Brings me up to Mach 5.5

According to my calculations (definitely not KSP), you would be burned up at those speeds. Which is why you have a psionic friend give you immunity to fire damage.

    Edit: Sorry for double post!

Mighty leap and wind step doesn't comsume any action, and different effects so they stack.
You need one level as druid to cast Scroll of shapechange, your ally can't use in you. And you can't rage while concentrate.

    1. Mighty Leap and Wind Step are from different subclassses
    2. Okay, I'll add a level of druid to become a Psion 9/Barbarian 5/Fighter 2/Wizard 2/Artificer 1/Druid 1
    3. The Barbarian 'Rage' description says "If you are able to cast spells, you can't cast them or concentrate on them while raging." It only specifies spells. (I'm probably just dumb/blind, so sorry!)

Mystic can choose any discipline, not just from his order.
When you use a sprel scroll you're castimg that spell.
But the 120ft from quickling is better than the 15ft extra from elk rage.

As mystic 9 you could gain +140ft from each discipline istead of 100ft

For each psi point you get 20ft jumping or flying, you can spend 7 as mystic 9, this doesn't increase your speed, so don'tstack with dash or the double effects, how I understand. Is just a single +140 each in your turn.
I think would work qith the reaction movement too

Well factoring this all in, I can get my base speed up to 455 (Quickling, Celerity (7pp), 2 Artifacts w/ 2 Majors each, Fast Movement, Artificer Potion, Longstrider, a Dream Druid 20 ally, Transmuters' Stone, An Ally with Crown of Fury, An Ally with Mantle of Command, Mobile feat, Boon of Speed, and Bladesinging) As a Mystic 9/Barbarian 5/Fighter 2/Wizard (Bladesinger) 2/Artificer (Alchemist) 1/Druid 1 (to cast Shapechange via Scroll). 455* 16 (Tabaxi, Haste, Boots of Speed, Urchin)=7280. 7280*5.5 (Movement, Action: Dash, Action Surge: Dash, Haste: Dash, Reaction: Crown of Fury, Mantle of Command)=40040. 40040+280 (Mighty Leap (7pp) and Wind Step (7pp))=40320. 40320/6699 (1116.5*6)= ~Mach 6.01!

i got something a little different:

    tabaxi, urchin
    druid 1 = scroll of shapechange = quickling 120ft
    Fighter 2 = action surge
    Barbarian 5 = +10ft
    monk 2 = +10ft.
    bladesinger 2 = +10ft.
    mystic 3 = +10ft. (focus celerity)
    artificer 5 = +20ft (attunement to 4 itens)

    Mobile +10
    longstride +10
    boon of speed +30
4x artifacts with 2x major property artifact each = +80ft
transmuter stone +10 (stolen from wizard).
boots of speed for horse = x2
    potion of speed = haste

allies: druid circle of dreams lv 20, balm of the summer court for +100"
mystic with focus in Mantle of Fury +5
another mystic focus in mantle of command

    base 425'*16= 6800

movement + dash + action surge dash + haste dash + bonus action (monk) dash + reaction (Mindless Charge) + 1/2 mantle of coomand = 44200

    Mighty Leap (2pp) +60ft (x2 monk unarmored movement) = 120ft
Wind Step (2pp) +60ft fly movement

    44380

    This is fun :3

Also, Boots of Speed require Attunement, making you have a base speed of 405'. Sorry :/

Also, Boon of Speed allows you to dash as a BA.

    Artificer (Alchemist) 5/Barbarian 5/Ranger (Underdark Scout) 3/Fighter 2/Wizard (Bladesinger) 2/Druid 1/Mystic 1

Allies: Dream Druid 20, Wizard (Transmuter) 6, Mystic buddies for Mantle of Fury and Mantle of Command

    120 (Quickling) + 100 (Balm of the Summer Court [Druid Ally]) + 5 (Focus: Mantle of Fury [Mystic Ally]) + 30 (Boon of Speed) + 10 (Mobile) + 10 (Longstrider [Wizard Ally]) + 60 (3xArtifacts via Superior Attunement) +10 (Bladesinger) + 20 (Alchemist Potion) + 10 (Transmuter's Stone) + 10 (Unarmored Movement) + 10 () + 10 (Rogue Ally) + 10 (Fast Movement) + 10 (Focus Celerity) = 425'

Tabaxi, Urchin, Haste, Boots of Speed = *16

Wind Step & Mighty Leap for +80

    (425*16*6.5+80)/6699 = Mach 6.61 / 44,280 ft of movement

    forgot about boots of speed
ranger underdark scout and Ambush Master doesn't work with urchin, because one is only in combat, other can't be used in combat. :(
I think i prefer monk 2, his bonus action dash double the jump of Mighty Leap, not a great add, but is something.

Ah. Sad how this thread is just us, huh?

I'll drop Ranger 3 & Ambush Master [via Ally] for 2 levels in monk, giving me a net of -10. Also, I can jump (no pun intended) up to Mystic 3. Revising the calcs bring me up to: (415*104+180)/6699 or Mach 6.47 / 43240

Edit: forgot to double Mighty Leap

How about if the contest is limited to the PHB and only 1 of the 3 books between Elemental Evil, Sword Coast, and Volo's? No other sources allowed like UA

Also, if an Ally cast Jump on me, my speed goes up to (415*104+420)/6699 = Mach 6.5 / 43,580

Because some of us treat this as a hobby in between wife, kids, and work. Free time is at a premium. I run a books only game so my group is all on a even playing ground, and can contribute to the group without sitting there watching 1 person be OP as the 9 hells. Where's the fun in that?

What will this do to affect a game? Plus, you lose the Tabaxi ability and eventually all you buffs, etc. will wear off.

Well, honestly, both a Core Only and a UA Enhanced half of the experiment could be interesting, I don't see why we couldn't theorycraft on both tracks.

Also this speed is ridiculous and I love it.

Edit: forgot to double Mighty Leap
sorry, I miss 10ft of how you get the 415 base.

Post #19 gets me 425'. I lose 10 for dropping the 3 Ranger levels and another 10 from losing the Rogue Ally. I gain 10' back with a 2 level dip into monk. 425-10-10+10=415
