    Default 101 atypical commoners

We knew it would come to this

1). Craig knew he has normal from the start, even though his parents and siblings had power beyond mortal imagination Craig was just your average farmer. Until one day Craig decided to chance things, he began a service to hook wealthy people up with adventures that soon became a thriving business. That business was known as "Craig's List". At first he just posted requests on a net that he borrowed from a fisherman but soon he put newts on the net to keep people from removing things on the net (newt neutrality people called it) and even had to hire a wizard to cast wall of fire to protect people's personal nets.

Craig is now working on a game called "Tumbler" in which people roll down a hill (try not to hit bad posts).

If they're atypical commoners, does that make them uncommoners?

    Har-dee-har-har.

    2. The Dwarven Woodworker - Dwarves have always been famed for their metalworkers, their ancestors of yore making mighty spells while hammers fall like ringing bells, blah blah blah...but have you ever stopped to wonder who carves all the handles for those hammers? Who makes the hafts of their axes? Who builds the tables and tankards for their great feasthalls? This guy! It's a thankless job, and he's sick of the elf jokes his kin constantly make, but he takes comfort in knowing the vital role he plays in dwarven society.

    The Sleepy store owner
    3. Locked up inside his shop, with the doors and windows shut, is the best shopkeeper in the village. At first, people thought he had just taken a day off, but days have gone now and the store owner has been locked in there, even when a few brave men broke down his door, he was asleep, and still sleeping, days later. Even when trying to rouse him, he was heavily groggy before going back to Sleep. Something about him isn't normal, say the locals, who remember him up and about, and happy-go-lucky. If only a group of BRAVE ADVENTURERS would step up and help him!

I motion that the name of the thread be changed to '101 Uncommoners'. Anyone second the motion?

    4. The Sunbathing Drow

She has this guilty pleasure. She loves the feel of the sun on her skin, and if any of her underdark brethren learned of this, they'd be scandalized. At the very least. So she sneaks up to the surface every chance she can and strips off as much as she's comfortable removing and basks in the rays of the sun for as long as she thinks she can get away with.

    5. The Inventor

You know the guy. The one who lives on the edge of town, who stays up until the oddest hours and constantly looks like he's short on sleep. The one whose house no one wants to go near because they hear bizarre noises coming from it, including the occasional explosion. The one who has all these weird and wacky contraptions lying around in various states of completion or repair, many of which you've never seen or even heard of before.

    6. The Adventurer Wannabe

Sure the kid is a little annoying, what with the way he follows your party around every time you all are in town and mimics everything you do. Not to mention how he pesters everyone to show him their 'awesome skills'. Honestly, you'd really like to tell him to get lost most of the time, but... well... it's kind of flattering really.

    Inversely Bland Commoner

This Uncommoner has the worst luck, people always keep confusing him with other, more important people. This causes him to be accosted multiple times a day by law enforcement, or heroes, & others just because he had a similar cloak, or hairstyle that they saw from behind, or through a crowd or thick glass. He just wants to be left alone!

    9. The Gamemaster: This young man adores dice and the games played with them, whether mere gambling or elaborate storytelling exercises. He crafts his own dice and sells them to passing travelers. While simple cubes are always in high demand, he enjoys trying to make ones with more sides, always attempting to craft more complicated polyhedrons. If any express interest, he may try to cajole people into testing out the new game he and a few friends have been developing, telling the story of heroes adventuring in realms that have long faded from memory...

13.) The Journalist - Sure, the printing press is only in its earliest stages, but he lives in a world where magic mouths, scrying spells, messaging animals, teleportation spells, flight, and much more can be accomplished by a wizard with the gall to do it. While he hasn't mastered his communication spells yet, some day he will gather the stories from everyone and everywhere and share them with the world.

14.) The Agriculturalist - Now, I've got to tell you, you're doing it all wrong. You shouldn't be planting wheat on your fields more than once in a row. You gotta rotate your crops like this. And for the gods' sake, try planting some turnips once in a while. You get higher yields and happier animals when you treat your soil well. You there, adventurer! Does this look like good soil to you? Because I'm telling you, it isn't.

15.) The stoneworker guy who carves headstones - In some cultures people like this are idolized (generally the ones that make big burial tombs or standing stone arrays), and in some, they are left to obscurity. This commoner is good at one thing: taking large slabs of relatively malleable stone, and carving intricate and beautiful works into the face that will last for milennia. Sure, when you kill a dragon the story may remain for a few hundred years if you're lucky, but this guy's work will be around long after the world has forgotten who you are.

16.) The Sheep Whisperer - Sure, he could go become a druid, but that would mean abandoning his family and his people. This commoner has a natural affinity with animals of the ovine variety. He can speak to them, and they speak back. That's why he lives here, in ranching country, keeping the local flocks healthy and happy.
