Shattered Star II: Curse of the Lady's Light (IC)

The entire party files in, and those that can cast detect magic, do.

The best the party figures is that since it appears to be more "device" than "trap" ... a conjuration (summoning) or conjuration (calling) is unlikely. Conjuration (healing) seems to be a unlikely possibility. But given the clue of the inscription at that base of each statue, the general assumption is that this is some type of teleportation-based magic. That is the best that attempts to identify and converse amongst the party come up with, and it seems a link between statues and central golden pad.

Now what?

Erima concentrates to get a feel of the place and the localized magics.

Gonna try to analyse it with Detect Psionics (simply spending my focus for it since we got time).

"It looks as though one of us needs to try this out. I will volunteer", Iluvar stats.

He proceeds to walk to the square west of the first statue. He will be in total defense.

Erima, you don't receive any more information than was already given.

Iluvar, are you saying you walk "onto" the square, or just to it?

[Tippnick]

Iluvar walks on the sqaure.

The square has now been trod upon. And Iluvar, having trod upon that square, stands majestically upon it. Still.

Nothing happened.

Walking to the closest statue, Erima starts observing it.

The statue doesn't move.

[Tippnick]

Iluvar will reach out to touch the statue.

"Maybe someone else should touch the next one and another should touch the 3rd statue", Iluvar suggests.

Erima moves to the next statue and touches the hand as well.

When Erima touches the second hand, the plates glow brighter, and there is a faint hum of arcane energy building.

Telgarana stands on the plate reaches out but pauses. "We might all want to be together before the third statue is touched."

[lostsole31]

Telgarana realizes that because of distance, NOBODY (at least in this party) can just "reach out" while standing on the platform.

[LazarX]

Fine. She touches the statue and then proceeds to the platform... Unless everyone on it dies first.

[lostsole31]

The glow is a little brighter, and now the audible hum is louder and multi-tonal.

The Scribe goes to the east directly across from Telgarana and touches that final statue's outstretched hand. Now all four statues glow, and there is a much louder arcane noise. It is very audible, but not so audible as to be piercing or damaging, but would be annoying if left for too long.

And then Fallon, who has never read fantasy books or played fantasy games, and therefore does not have the luxury of trope-based knowledge, flies over to the central golden platform and lands.

And disappears.

And all of the glowing and humming stops.

[Since this is a tense situation and you may or may not be on the clock, we are going to initiative....]

Begin Round One ...

R1T31: Iluvar, all of the statues and floor panels are no longer glowing, and the hum is gone. Whatever building was discharged when Fallon disappeared when she stepped on the central plate. What do you do?

Iluvar will move to the platform Fallon landed on. Will go to crane style if he can.

R1T31: Iluvar moves to the platform Fallon landed on. He adopts a martial stance in doing so ... but he doesn't go anywhere.

R1T24: Telgarana, what do you do?

Touch one of the statues hands and then go to the platform.

[lostsole31]

R1T24: Telgarana touches the statue she is near, then moves next to the platform ... unable to step on since Iluvar is taking up that space.

R1T17: Erima, what do you do?

Erima tries to see if the magic of the place is still available, casting detect psionics.

One step to the East, and look toward the West (to include statue and square).

R1T17: Erima tries to see if the magic of the place is still available. As before, her spells do not come to her. Yet, as she concentrates, she gets a tingling that yes, in the direction she is looking ... which only includes the plate, not the statue ... she does sense power in that area.

Everyone else, there is a strange crackling sound as Erima's form form fades from view, and then quickly reappears, as if nothing happened.

R1T14: The Scribe touches the statue he is at, now with a more defined glow and the audible hum. He then moves past Erima to get to the next statue, poised to touch it.

R1T2: Seeing what The Scribe is doing, Rezah steps over to the SW statue to touch it, the power building in the room.

One aura coming from the western platform - strong conjuration.

One aura, but of mixed conjuration/transmutation, coming from the bath in the other room to the west.

The rest are from The Scribe: an aura of faint transmutation on his boots; aura of moderate divination at his eyes; aura of faint divination from his actively lit wayfinder; strong varied coming from the ioun stone inset into the Shard of Pride that he wears on a lanyard under his clothes; faint aura of abjuration on a wand at his belt; a mixture of moderate conjuration and faint evocation on Xin-Rithux (his ranseur); faint evocation on his composite longbow; moderate conjuration on the striking surfaces of his body; faint abjuration on the chain shirt under his robe.

R2T14: The Scribe touches the outstretched hand of the statue, bringing magical energies to a crescendo ... and Iluvar disappears from sight. The statues and platforms cease glowing, and the arcane hum "powers down."

R2T13-7: Iluvar, you suddenly appear in a scene of battle! Something hideous attacks you with claws and teeth, but your innate senses protect you. You see another one attack Fallon, critting her in the belly, and yet doing no damage to her. Yet a third one of these things sidesteps and now flanks Iluvar, slashing his left shoulder for 5, slashing his left upper arm for 5, and missing with a bite.

Iluvar, your entire situation has changed. Would you like to come out of delay?
