    Spoiler: Noteworthy Folk and places
    Show

Earl Roderic - A man of great energy, known for his valour and respect for his subordinates and Vassals, as well as his devotion to his own Lord, the King, Uther. He is at the year 485 AD an age of 35. He's married to Lady Ellen. He also got a Son and a Daughter

Lady Ellen - Married to Earl Roderic. At the year 485 AD she's is the young supple age of 24. She's got a son and a daughter, both legitimately conceived with her husband. Her official Title and rank is that of Countess. She is naturally good with dealing with animals.

Lady Jenna - Daughter of Roderic and Ellen. Their firstborn and only Daughter. She is, at the year 485 AD 8 years old and is available for marriage in a good 7 more years. She is very pretty and got her mother's gift with animals. Rumours does go that her father is intent on keeping her around as a prize to give to a favoured knight or as a bargaining chip, without concern for her own feelings or wants (however this is quite normal in this Era, so nothing noteworthy to judge him on, and it's not yet a realized thing).

Sir Elad - Marshall of Earl Roderick and Castellan for Vagon Castle. He is the Creme de la Creme of martial prowess, as well as the one that trains all the most promising squires. He is very beholden to his beliefs, but is willing to put them aside for his lord, Earl Roderick, if so requested.

Lady Elisa - The 2nd Daughter of a Vassal Knight to Earl Roderick, who's Manor(s) is located somewhere near Upavon. She is a good friend of Lady Jenna (and sees her a bit like the Little Sister she never got) and often visits when a chance for it shows itself, even though there's about two days worth of travel time to get to Vagon Castle, although Lady Jenna is normally seated in Sarum, and thus it's usually a day or so of travel to Sarum itself. At the Year 485 AD, she is the age of 16, fit for marriage, but not yet married.

Lady Elisa's Father - He is yet to be known by name, but he is a Vassal of Earl Roderick and his manor is seated somewhere near Upavon. He might possibly be a Cousin or a bit further-related relative to Earl Roderick himself, seeing as his and the earl's daughter is close friends, despite their age-difference.

    Character sheet for review.
    Spoiler: Background
    Show
Delwyn is the second child of a wealthy and glorious family that, depending on the patriarch, often claims descent from Aeron, or occasionally his feminine aspect Agronα, the Welsh god of war. Her grandfather, a giant, bulky, tree trunk of a man, died bravely in King Constans' court, the last man between him and the traitors. Her grandfather laid out seven men before he was overcome by his injuries and fell, leaving the king finally vulnerable. Of course, this all happened before Delwyn was born, and as such, he only hears tell of her grandfather from her mother as her father, likewise, died when she was only four of a terrible illness, spending the last days of his life wracked with pain, both from the illness as well as the various attempted treatments.

Joyously, her father was able to get his wife pregnant, and sire a child before his passing. However, this other child, whilst male, was born with severely malformed genitalia, and was therefore unable to carry on the bloodline. While normally this would not be an issue, just after the child was born, Delwyn's older brother was slain along with his master-knight at the Battle of Salisbury, leaving the family with no functional male heir.

Delwyn, however, was not about to let the death of her older brother, or the impotence of her younger one stop her family's line and honor. In her, with her fiery red hair, the claim that her family was descended from a goddess of war seemed less far fetched and more evident. Strong-willed, and with few male relatives to stop her save her uncles, she sparred with her younger brother whenever she got even half a chance, claiming that if he was ever going to be a knight, even an infertile one, that he would need a practice partner while their elder brother was away. And when that brother died, she filed a petition with Uther to become a squire, claiming that the right of her noble family's line to exist outweighed normality and tradition.

Sir Delwyn will speak in purple, as befitting a noble lady.

I, Roderick, Earl Salisbury do hereby entrust the estate of Baverstock onto Raimund, son of Bertram, for soever long as he remains a valiant defender of the realm.

    Liege Lord: Earl Roderick
    Location: Salisbury

Manor Description: A scenic estate bordering a sizeable forest. Small farms, a mill and a bakery make up the village accompanying the manor.

Raimund almost seems to be inclined to follow in his fathers footsteps, but the well placed forest and his keen interest in hunting may lead to him being more involved.

Spoiler: Great Grandfather Garth, Glory - 2400
    Show
Little is remembered of Garth of Highstone save his noble deeds that were recorded for prosperity, and tales of his heroism and martial prowess.

Spoiler: Granfather Edric, Glory - 2270
    Show
Grandfather Edric perished trying to defend king Constantin from his own guards, leaving Garth's father John without a father of his own.

Spoiler: John, Garth's Father, Glory 1947
    Show
Bereft of a father when he was only 1 year old, John had to grow up quickly and as soon as he was old enough to hold a sword went to battle. He had a long military life, surviving until the old age of 44, fighting in countless battles and skirmishes. He won much glory for his staunch support and reliable ways, though was not known for the heroism that his father and grandfather had shown. He married a woman from one of the border families, and they were happy together, if not in love.

    Spoiler: Remaining Family Members
    Show
John's siblings (4 brothers, two sisters)
Duncan. A knight that loyally followed Garth's father, he disappeared in the same battle at Ebracum, presumed dead. His only remaining son, Beren is one of Garth's closest friends.
Garyn. Died when he was barely a man, in a duel with a Silchester knight. Fuelled hatred for those Silchester men!
Brandon. The oldest knight at Steeple Langford, and a tough but kind man. He has taken great pride in caring for Garth and his siblings.
Lardans. A childhood illness prevented him from becoming a knight, yet he has outlived many of his siblings. He watches over the house's holdings whilst the other men are away at war.
Claire. Married to a neighbouring lord: she has not returned to Steeple Langford in nearly 30 years.
Laure. Ran away to become a nun at a young age.

    Eilidh's siblings (2 brothers)
Arren, married and knighted, and therefore doesn't have the chance to visit Steeple Langford. He has sent two of his younger sons to Steeple Langford, Luke and Stephen, to learn the ways of knighthood, and to support Garth following the death of his father.
Cai, never married, but still visits his sister in Steeple Langford.

    Garth's Siblings (3 brothers, 3 sisters)
    Gwen (15) married
    Mary (16) died in childbirth
Tamsin (16) unmarried and still living at Steeple Langford
    Gregory (20) married, unhappily
Henry (18) died in a hunting accident
Alwyn (18) disappeared a week after his brother died

    IC will be posted tomorrow.
As I will properbly say again at a later date, keep this to heart in any case:
Glory is the price to go for.
To earn glory uou must do noteworthy deeds, be it great success with a skill use, a Knightly choice of action, battle, etc.
The bigger the Glory Reward, the more dangerous the task. I will of course warn you all if a multiple choice event is possible as to which would most likely yield more glory, but also thusly me much more dangerous.
If a challenge is so deadly that even a sucessful Valourous Test is still a free-choice action, you should most likely just run. Loss of Honour only happens if a showing of cowardice is made, not to flee from a battle that is a one-way street to Deathland.
Combat will always grant good glory, but is also very deadly. wounds that take you below half your full value can result in death, even IF you're being treated well.
Battle (as in large-scale army vs. army) is downright DEADLY in it's nature, but is also very much the best way to earn much glory and even a good load of loot'n'valueables both from captured worths, but also in terms of ransomable prisoners of enough value. To ransom a king would grant something akin to 200 Libra. For a comparison to that, you spend 6 libra a year to keep yourself, your family, your manor and your gear in a well-fed and well-tended state of a normal knight's level of comfort.

Adventures are the best way to get into combat or achieve great deeds.
Story Events are the best way of being part of a Grand Battle.

Be open OOCly. if there' something you'd like to persue, let me know. If you wish to try and woe the Earl's Daughter for her hand in marriage, say so. if you wish to listen to your Commonfolk in search of troubles or a Quest to undertake for them, likewise let me know.
There is of course a set timeline of events that will happen. but YOUR story is what counts, and thusly personal events for each of you MUST thusly also be possible. Not everything can be done, such as slaying Uther and claim yourself king. Or turn into Saxons and be the badguys.

But anyways, the IC will be posted tomorrow, and it will start out with the inro scenario, that our 6 young squires will be going through, and if they survive, they will of course be knighted with all the glory and feasting that will entail.

    Hyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyype

Also, for those bits where we have choices to make, could you put the glory/danger level of the options in spoiler tags? I'd prefer to just do what my character would do, then open the tag and cringe.

No specifics are given just that one might carry more glory and danger than the other.

Of course if one choice is to go raid saxons, and the other is to go to the King's Royal Court for a while.... Of course the act of going raiding is most likely the more dangerous (and more glory-worthy) choice. But it may still not be wholey correct. cuz is never gonna state which is the actual safer choice. only which is most likely the more dangerous one.

Just curious, nothing wrong with it.

I just don't type the "one".

    So:

    roll]d20[/roll]

    Instead of roll]1d20[/roll]

    Also, trying an experiment:

btw everyone, once you've rolled feel free to post ICly and take into account if you succeed, fail, etc. Just keep it ambigious enough to allow others posting after you to reply that they either arrived before or after, or somewhat at the same time.
At least for this event. for skill rolls you do alone, you can just reply ICly right after the OOC roll.
This is also the time for you to introduce your character. both in visuals, but also in attitude, etc.
Do remember he/she has spend a good 5-6 years now being a Squire to a Knight and have done all that work of carrying the extra gear, polishing the armor, the weapons, etc. So that work and that knowledge is something wholey ingrained in each of you. Feel free to also give a small hint at a name of the knight who you Squired for, if you wish to.

I'm already fearing grand battles... all that work, that I have to do XD

    Also, trying an experiment:

No gonna do a 'how he looks' introduction? it was sorta what that chance was for. or are you gonna wait with that until your character arrives at the Training field?

Eh... your character isn't fat. XD He is not gonna be a Knight if he's Tarly-chubby.

Roll on energetic: (1d20)[10] and if that fails roll on lazy: (1d20)[20] no need to worry, Garth arrives on time (as usual)

Vagon Castle is located west of Sarum. for specific, check the maps i've given in Post 1.
from them you can reference yourself to where it is compared to your manor.
