    Default Re: [DH2e] Broken Mould

    Well, I've woken up to worse PMs before, let me tell you!

    For Eos, I shall take an appropriate shade of Red.

    Eos Eta
    Adeptus Mechanicus/Forge World Sage

    The wise learn from the deaths of others

    Spoiler: Description
    Show

    Eos looks... fairly typical for a tech priest. She dresses in the traditional red Imperial Robes, and proudly bears a collection of Mechadendrites (One Optical, One Utility, one Interface) attached at the small of her back.

    Were Eos stripped naked and shaved, she would bear three visible sets of cybernetic enhancement. One at the base of the spine (A combination Cyber-Mantle and Mind Interface Unit), one on the inside of each wrist (secondary Mind Interface Unit), and a mechanical right eye (the visible portion of her Augur Array). A fairly small number for a Tech Priest, but in her defence, she is still at the start of her career...

    Ignoring the mechanical portions (and after giving her her hair back), what you're left with is a thin, pale (as in 'insufficiently tanned', not 'albino') woman, with brown hair and brown eyes, probably in her mid/late 20s. She easily qualifies as 'cute', but isn't striking enough to make the jump to 'beautiful'. Unless you like'em cybernetically enhanced, that is...

    Spoiler: History
    Show

    Eos Eta was born on Core Theta, the daughter of two low-ranking Tech Priests. As a child, she too was inducted into the Cult of the Machine, and began training to one day become a Tech Priest herself.

    As an initiate, she was considered a promising candidate for becoming a Logis one day. To that end, she was transferred over to Cerix Magnus, and began serving an apprentiship down in the bowels of Assembly Zero-One-Zero.

    While she was down there, there were... incidents. Sabotage. Machines taken apart without warning. Maintenance done without the proper application of Sacred Unguents. And the Tech Priests were at a loss to find the culprit.

    Ultimately it was a passing Inquisitor who finally solved the riddle - tracking down the Heretek who had been committing sabotage under Eos' nose, and killing them deep in the Assembly's under-levels. But then he demanded his price for his assistance - and took young Eos into his service as his fee.

    That's the official version of the story, anyway.

    In truth, the Heretek the Inquisitor had found was Eos herself. The Radical had no more interest in towing the Adeptus Mechanicus' doctrinal lines than Eos did, so she'd been given a choice: Work for the Inquisition or get turned in for her 'crimes'.

    Not a difficult choice, really.

    Promising Logis that she was, Eos wasn't happy with her lot in life. She'd always wanted to serve on an Explorator Fleet, but the career they actually offered her was to do years of boring rote maintenance (with only a squad of Servitors for company) followed by a lifetime of optimizing production runs.

    Desperately bored, and stuck on maintenance detail far below the manufactory floor, she'd taken to poking around the vaults under her 'care'. The vaults of ancient Cogitators were a particular favourite, and she stuck her interface mechadendrite into every one she could find. They taught her a lot of random things about the galaxy she wasn't being allowed to explore...

    ...Until the last one. Knowledge from a decade or a century back is one thing. Knowledge from the Dark Age of Technology, on the other hand...

    ...Well, that shook Eos. Here it was, a mechanical mind from the age of the Standard Template Constructs... and it had never heard of a machine spirit, even considering the concept slightly ludicrous. Humanity's greatest technological achievements hadn't involved swarms of Servitors and endless chanting. Her superiors... might not actually know what they were talking about...

    So she'd started experimenting. Little things, at first - skipping intonations, using non-sanctified oil - then on to disassemblies, which is where the other Tech Priests began to notice. Luckily for her, there was an Inquisitor along in the market for a tech specialist before the Tech Priests caught on that the 'saboteur' was one of their own.

    And hey, even if she is technically being blackmailed to be here... at least now she gets to explore new worlds. After all... that was all she'd wanted to do in the first place...

    Born on the Frontier world of Temperance, Acadia grew up raised in the classic traditions of her home planet, including use of a flame weapon to fight back the deadly mind-mould. Her parents were mid-level adiminstratum members, part of the apparatus that planned new farms and put into motion the process of breaking ground and making the land suitable for crops. However, this also made them a target for the local terrorists, and both were slain when their office was spore-bombed. Left orphaned, Acadia was taken in by the Schola Progenium at the age of 12. In the Schola, she did quite well, her training with flame weapons and high grades putting her on the Adepta Sororitas track. When she graduated, she was sent to the Convent Prioris on Terra to undergo training. There, her distinctly level-headed yet selfless approach to her duties marked her as a member of the Argent Shroud to be. Eventually, Acadia achieved the rank of Novice Advance, becoming a full fledged sister.
    However, not long after her deployment back to the Askellon Sector, during a spike in the Pandemonium's activity, Acadia received a dream that she believed to be a vision from the Emperor. During the dream she saw a vision of ruin come to the sector, mutants and daemons running rampant over all that she held dear. When she awoke, she found that the candles lighting her room responded to her thoughts and fears. After a moment of focus, she even found that she could cause them to flare up or extinguish.
    Believing this new ability to be a sign from the Emperor, Acadia did what she believed to be the right thing and promptly informed the Canonness about what had happened. Unfortunately, the Canonness did not share Acadia's take on events, and declared that she had been irrevocably corrupted by chaos and was to be executed as soon as possible. Acadia was promptly thrown into a cell, and the Canoness contacted the local Inquisitor to inform him of what was occurring before execution proceedings began.
    While in her cell, Acadia did not protest, or behave violently, or even attempt to use her powers. She simply remained on her knees and prayed, afraid and tearful, for salvation from the emperor. Even as she was brought to the stake and tied to it, she maintained her faith in the face of painful death. Perhaps, then, the inquisitor's timely arrival, claiming Acadia to become part of his warband was the deliverance she was praying for. At least, Acadia certainly thinks so, and does her duties with the fervor and vigilance of a woman who believes herself to be on a mission from the Emperor himself and fated for greatness.

    As far as anyone can tell, an orphan in a Forge World, Wolfram went and got himself set into the path of the Cult Mechanicus. He was a lousy student, until he ran into his first gun. Like a beautiful moment he instantly took to it, and to this day claims the Machine Spirit of the weapon all but hummed at his touch. With renewed interest, he went on to become Skitarii. For one year he serviced in the Legio Cybernetica but his deeds there earned him a transfer to the Legio Titanica as Securitor. When the Titan his unit protected fell, and was sent to repairs, the stayed to aid in the defense of the Forge World.

    Their enemies wouldn’t give up so easily however, and the Great Enemy pursued them to the Forge World, completely destroying the still in repair titan during their attack, with the aid of infiltrated hereteks. Wolfram managed to survive the ensuing conflict, though the new damage to the Titan put its repairs in an unreasonable timetable. The unit disbanded and he was freed, but the fervor of his fight against the hereteks, and determination to perform any number of rituals to appease the machine spirit of their weaponry drew the eyes of the Inquisition on him

    Background:

    Bucephalus was born with the spirit name Mak'Muk'Mak'Mel upon the world of Dusk, a Feral world in the Calixis sector, and not much can be said of Buce's past, a dangerous childhood and quickly pushed into service of the imperial guard. The 5th Duskana Bulls, an unremarkable regiment of savages and poor quality, but hardy and persistent.

    The Regiment was quickly passed around like a hot vegetable, fighting Orks in the mud where such an uncivilized regiment belonged.
    Buce was lucky and contempt with his war life, if anything he felt a secret admiration for orks, they seemed to value things he enjoyed himself, noise, excitement and things made of metal.

    Buce would have gone unnoticed entirely if not for a fateful day, during a campaign where the Duskana Bulls joined forces with the Cadian 721st, Buce was accidently run over by the Cadian General's salamander, breaking his arm
    Despite the presence of the generals staff and political officers, the general was a kind and merciful man and took the blame for running him over as oppose to punishing him.

    Buce however was seen by his comrades, laying in the ditch with a broken arm and his big dark eyes crying in pain, they mocked him playfully and from then on called him "the calf" as he looked like a road kill baby bull
    Amongst the General's staff was unbeknownst to the guardsmen, an inquisitional agent, who noticed the unfortunate guardsmen and before Buce was even fully recovered from medicae was he pulled from service and registered as missing in action. He was then taken far away on a new mission, to work for the inquisition as an acolyte.

    But why Buce? one might ask, many claim that acolytes are exceptional people, cut above the rest of humanity and that the inquisition would only choose the best and not just dumb muscle. This ofcourse is not true at all, sometimes an inquisitor needs exactly that... expendable muscle, and it was only by pure chance Buce was selected, obedient, young and disciplined, doing as he's told. He's unremarkable, but that's perhaps what makes him exceptional.

    Aaaaaaaalrighty. We've got the full house, then! Glad ta have y'all aboard.

    If ANYBODY doesn't have a set of Guard Flak from their starting package, please feel free to take one. If that frees up one of your "Acquisitions", then yeah, that's okay.

    Regarding Sororitas characters: How the heck do the Arbites have their iconic stuff but not the Sororitas? Even if we're talking a not-quite-novice here. Amend the starting package to: Imperial Robes and Carapace Chestplate.

    If ANYBODY doesn't have Weapon Training [Low Tech] or a Knife... slap those on, please.

    If anybody doesn't already have a weapon maintenance kit, slap it on.

    If anybody has stats that end in "9" or "4", please kick those up to the nearest multiple-o-5. But subtract 1 point from ELSEwhere. Just tell me which, okay?

    If your Wound Points or Fate Points aren't already maxed... MAX 'em.

    Furthermore, if there are parts of the standard package that you want to SWAP OUT, feel free to do so. Just make sure they're of equivalent Availability value: For example, Pump Shotgun = Stub Auto. Do you get it?

    Additionally... If you stack Reliables, that WILL make the weapon better. For EXAMPLE--- if a Stub Revolver [Plentiful] is taken at GOOD-Craftsmanship, take ONE of a] gains Semiauto 2-shot burst b] Accurate c] Pen +1. If it is taken at BEST-Craftsmanship, take TWO of those. I hope that's understood?

    Any changes, just please REPORT them to me for approval before we go, alright?

    Do y'all have any questions?

    Do y'all have any other similar minor amendments to the starting packages that you'd like to request?

    @Ionbound:
    Where the heck did the Balanced come from on that Chainblade?

    @DukeGod:
    Weapon Training is keyed to Aptitudes: General and Finesse. Ya got only one, so, it should cost 300 XP.

    Quirks: Faded Electoo

    As an adept of the Genetors, Icharus Darrial has dedicated the majority of his life to better understanding the human form. A member of the Carnicula, the majority of his research has gone towards extending the lives of vat-grown organisms. However, in recent years, his work has taken a more radical approach, resorting to experimenting on Imperial citizens and performing unsanctioned dissections and implantations in order to better understand the relationship between regular and vat-grown components. However, when his superiors discovered this, he was branded Malatek, his brands of censure displayed for all those noospherically capable to see, and he was exiled. However, during its journey, the ship that he was at this point was boarded by the Inquisition, where he was dragged from his cell and informed that his life was now in the hands of the Inquisition.

    Modifications made. I only had one stat suitable for bumping up - Strength. I took a point from Weapon Skill to do it (so Eos is a 32 whether fighting in melee or shooting someone at range.)

    Right...well since I obviously won't really get to use Weapon Tech I think I'll probably swap it out for some other talent.

    That said, wow the Aptitudes systems seems awfully weird sometimes

    Gotcha. And take care, yo.

    @Whoiam:
    Very well, then.

    @DukeGod:
    Hmm. You sure about that? Let's put it this way... In the first place, how did your character encounter and learn to use... Plasma weapons? Seems reasonable with a forgeworld battlefield and Titan-work, eh?

    Weird Aptitude system... Sometimes, yeah, agreed. One of the strange bits that I find, Warrior is NOT a good fit for somebody who wants to go SHOOTY, right? HMMMM. Tell ye what... do you want to take Finesse and drop Strength?

    ~~~~
    @Everybody:
    Be advised. There might be some delays, due to... health... reasons.
    In the meanwhile...
    Do any of you have expectations of the game? Anything that you WANT or look forward to?
    Do you have any guesses (or preferences?) as to which Ordo took your characters in?
    Correct me if I'm wrong, we currently do NOT have any social-focused characters, right? Hah hah hah hah!
    ...Okay, I probably could have phrased that better.
    I wasn't trying to imply that she'd use fellowship for intimidate checks; what I was trying to get at is that our most charming member is the rogue psyker whose conversational speciality is offering to feed you to any passing demons if you don't give her what she wants.
    (Even if she's only first by virtue of having a slightly higher Fellowship score than the rest of us, since none of us trained 'Charm'. I think.)
    Hm. That puts me back at where I started the sheet I guess, so yeah it'd be awesome. Thank you
    I've seen on some threads that it might be because Warriors aren't really the "soldier" role, but rather Asassin is the soldier role. Not sure I'm buying that argument.
    Also, the Characteristics: Strength, Agility and Perception get rounded up to 40, 35 and 35, and I lower Willpower by 3
    Edit: Maxed Fate would be what? Base + Emperor Blessing + 100 roll on Divination?
    Nah, Acadia would never feed you to a daemon. That would be heretical. She might burn you alive though.
    Base + Blessing.
    NOT doubling on the Divination. :P That'd be a bit too much, eh?
    Alright. Swapped the Carapace Chest for Enforcer Light Carapace, Hand Flamer for Hotshot Lasgun, acquired a Chainsword as my acquisition freed up by the IG Flak Armor, then swapping the IG Flak armor for the Extended Magazine mod for said Lasgun. Also adjusted stats to be in line with what you wanted, Ag/BS down 1, T, INT up one.
    I notice Ordo wasn't mentioned yet. I think I'd want an Inquisitor of either the Malleus or the Xenos. Xenos get to visit a bunch of interesting planets I bet, but the Malleus gets to really be...inquisition-like
    For those wondering, what Eos thinks of as 'brute-LH-alpha' is the traditional 'stick your left hand out and follow the left wall until you find an exit' method of maze-solving. She's intending to reach escape pods that way... though she'll probably hit one of the other acolytes first
    Acknowledged.
    Huh. You sure? Extended Magazine clocks in at just the same as the Backpack Ammo Supply, if I recall correctly.
    THANKS FOR REMINDING.
    ~checked~
    Holy crap, that was a little embarrassing. Sentence and paragraph were left unfinished. Already revised. It's "Inquisitor Khawla of the Ordo Xenos".
    I'm not complaining but I swear I've seen this DH intro before and that I've already gone through this exact same ship evacuation.
    Maybe it's a coincidence.
