I want to build a race more suited for the mindbender prestige class

I want to build a race more suited for the Mindbender prestige class, and i am not sure where to start on it though i want to use this race for psionics and spellcasting.

Start with what you want the race to do?

Psionics, sadly in 3.5E are just ''magic'' and boring. They are not mind/mental powers..just powers...and worst of all Anime Super Cool Powers.

The Mindbender is a class built around telepathy.

But psiomic ''telepathy'' just copies the core mind-like spells and then adds ''mind zap for 100d100 damage''.

I guess, at least your race would have Telepathy (Su) and maybe bonus power points?

A bonus in charisma and one or two basic psionic abilities to help with the power shortage at low level?

Half giants get this:
Naturally Psionic: Half-giants gain 2 bonus power points at 1st level, regardless of whether they choose a psionic class.
That could be an option.
