Default Ball of magical energy (peach)

    Ball of magical energy

    Wonderous item

This 2 foot diameter ball stores magical energy. The ball can store magical energy up to 4 levels worth of spells at a time.

Once per day a spellcaster can put magical energy of 1d4 spell levels worth by toucing the ball as the spell is cast. The spell has no effect, other than it's magical energy to be stored in the ball. If the spell cast would exceed the maximum energy the ball can hold roll a D20, on a 1 the ball shatters and does 8D8 of force damage in a 20 foot radius, otherwise the ball fills to it's maximum level of energy it can hold.

The ball can be created with a specific spellcaster in mind in which case it can store 10 levels worth of spells at a time and that spellcaster can put in magical energy of 1d10 spell levels worth once per day.

And then... What? This allows you to store energy. How do you use it?

If this is meant to store spells for later use, you totally forgot to describe the later use half.

I'd base this item off the Contingency spell anyway, since their functions are so similar.

Choose a spell that you can cast. You cast that spell, called the stored spell, expending spell slots, components and time as usual, but the storec spell doesn't come into effect. Instead, it takes effect when a creature uses their action to activate the orb as an action.

If the creature who activates the orb is aware of the stored spell, it may target as usual. If the creature is not aware of what spell is stored, they must succeed an Intelligence saving throw against your spell save DC or target themselves. An area of effect is instead centred on the creature.

You can store only one spell at a time. An additional spell erases previous spells from the orb.
