    Numenera: Burrowers Below!

    Through dreams and nightmares best not remembered you've all found your way into Weavercrest, a settlement surrounding an elaborate synth spire. You have a vague recollection of the path you took but the vivid nightmares of screaming and shouting leave you with one imprinted name, Yerk. This names holds no meaning to you yet, but possibly the fine people of Weavercrest might know? They seem rather backwards and rustic, viewing numenera as gift from their bloated spider god and the priesthood of this god hoard these relics jealously. The outlying fields of Weavercrest are farmlands, those working it use livestock to work it as well as raising insect as friends, food, and labor.

    As you enter Weavercrest many people wave and cry out joyfully, some pointing to the large synth spire and others to a small group of brown robed men creeping slowly to greet you all individually. “Hello newcomer! Welcome to Weavercrest, our humble home!” These men all looks similar, shaved heads and pale skin with green eyes. They're roughly 5'7” and wear a charm that resembles a spider spinning silk. One among them produces a scroll and unfurls it revealing a map of the settlement. “Please enjoy your stay! Do not travel by night though, the Burrowers breach occasionally to bathe in moonlight.” With that the group smiles and moves as one back into the city.


    The map indicates several notable places
    -Chapel of the Weaver: present in the inner city behind a earthen wall. If you seek religious guidance they offer to help those in need. If you seek to relinquish artifacts and cyphers they pay handsomely.
    -Bazaar: Open air market of merchants selling their wares ranging from tools, weapons,foods, and live creatures.
    -Forbidden Zone: An area marked on the map outside the settlement, the terrain looks like hills.
    -The Holy Spire: The central spire of synth at the settlements center.
    -The Fire Moth Inn: A popular Inn in the settlement, they handle foreigner affairs and have the best food in the city! Warmest beds! And the loveliest ladies and gents!

    You may decide what to do from here, it is mid day and the settlement is bustling.

    Sher is a Castoff Glint who Wonders.

    Sher in all appearance is still young by most standards and wears the most stylish red clothes that someone can find. His clothes are quite fashionable, at least from where he is from. He is dark skinned with short dark hair and dark brown eyes, appearing to be relatively mundane beside his clothes.

    His cool exterior hides the fact that Sher is constantly planning and plotting. Every interactions with a person is analyzed for opportunities. He play out various scenarios in every waking moment.

    He enjoys the thrill of negotiation and the hunt for it, not so much the results and always looking for the next challenge. Sher isn't too concerned about where he came from or why he has a strange power to be quite honest, his earliest memory is waking up next to a blue metal statue near the western end of the Southern Wall.

    Effect: For the next 28 hours, each time the weapon the nodule is attached to strikes a solid creature or object, it releases a pulse of concussive force that throws the target a short distance away from the user. This force knocks the target and the user to the ground.

    Maliha Ibn Malakim, was born in an isolated region where a powerful Nano ruled over a collection of small enclaves, each enclave roughly ten or so extended families, banded together for protection from the surround tribes of Margr. As tribute, the Nano would demand that each year the enclaves provide him with one chosen youth, whom would serve as his apprentice. The tribute was considered a great honor, despite the fact that they returned to their enclave after being accepted into the Nano's service. It was, however, a small price to pay for the safety and stability he provided the region.

    In truth, the Nano had discovering a large Numenera Reliquary, which was able to concentrate and distill a person's thoughts, fears, emotions and self awareness into a milky white liquid, while leaving the subject with a shattered mind, an empty husk, only capable of following the most basic of commands. This essence was then consumed by the Nano, to feed his intellect, and provide sustenance to the parasite which had attached itself to the Nano's brain. The aberrant creature, existed out of phase with the 9th World, and consumed thought and reason, and by providing the parasite with the essence of the tribute's the Nano was able to preserve his own sanity, such as it was, and the parasite allowed it's host access to it's own vast array of psychic abilities.

    Maliha, selected as tribute served the Nano, for approximately a year prior to being selected for induction into the Reliquary. During her time in the Overlord's stronghold, she performed routine duties expected of a Nano's apprentice, identifying, cataloging, and storing oddities and minor Numenera. Organization of the Stronghold's provisions and supplies, ensuring that adequate levels were maintained for both the staff, and their Lord. During her tenure, she learned of the Reliquary, and carefully, over time deduced it's horrific nature, how it stripped the very essence of a person's mind, leaving them nothing but an empty shell of their former selves, devoid of emotion, thought or reason. As an Apprentice, Maliha was provided with access to the Datasphere, and she frantically sought out information regarding the Reliquary, and soon discovered it's nature, and it's connection to the Psychic Parasite that had affixed itself to the Nano's thought pattern.

    However, there was a Numenera stored within the Stronghold, that was anathema to the Parasite's Psychic nature, a bio-mechanical device that, when affixed to the host shielded their thoughts from the Reliquary, preserved their nature. As the Nano's mindless servants, themselves victims of the Reliquary scourged the stronghold for Maliha, she fled deep into the vault of the Nano's collected Numenera, frantically searching for the bio-mechanical implant. When she found it, it awakened as if a sentient thing, and crawled spider-like across her skin before it's legs, long, narrow, and frighteningly sharp drove into her spinal column, firmly affixing itself at the base of her skull. She was not prepared for the pain, nor the feeling of numbness flowing through her limbs, she passed into unconsciousness.

    When she awoke she was entrapped, fearing she'd been discovered and subjected to the Reliquary she panicked. She tried to scream, couldn;t for the bio-nutrient tube down her throat, she tore it out, freeing herself from multiple other tubes located at ports along her spine. She was in a cocoon of bio-organic metal, with speed and strength born of desperation she freed herself. Realizing that by bonding with the spider-like device she had been forever changed. She fled the Stronghold and the Nano's reach, fighting through mindless hordes of Reliquary zombies, and plunging heedless into Margr territory.

    She fought her way through the wilderness, however she was unprepared for the dreams that followed her transformation, the dreams that led her to Weavercrest, who themselves worshiped a spider-like deity, illustrations strangely reminiscent of the implant that caused her own chrysalis.

    • Against my better judgment, I joined my current companions because I saw that they were in danger.
    • Rachanaia knows my true nature, even if no one else does.

    Appearance
    Othvard's face and features are usually covered in a long cloak, gloves, wrappings, and a protective facemask and goggles- all to keep out the light's touch. Among friends and family he'll remove the goggles to reveal eyes that twinkle with humor and intelligence, as well as a pale green light.
    Othvard's gear usually incorporates some trinkets or oddities from his delves, contributing to his eccentric, otherworldly appearance.

    Background
    Othvard grew up in a bustling town in the Steadfast, where his parents worked as collectors for the local Aeon Priesthood. While not clergy themselves, the Noutheims were devoted to the faith, working with zeal and dedication. Their first son, Othvard, inherited their drive and intelligence, but little of their personal charm. The quiet, awkward youth, prone to cutting remarks and observations about his playmates and elders, found himself ostracized. More and more, Othvard devoted himself to exploring the Numenera Chambers that honeycombed the cliff beneath their aldea, surfacing for increasingly brief periods.

    It was a fairly ordinary delve that brought Othvard into a chamber he had never seen before, dominated by an enormous stone hand. The hand was growing from the back wall of the chamber (looking almost as if it had punched through the very stone), made of some kind of translucent jade. The hand looked almost beckoning, and before he fully understood why, Othvard touched his hand to a giant jade knuckle.

    Power surged through the Jade hand, sending waves of agony into Othvard's body. He collapsed, and awoke reeling from his physical changes, and the searing pain the light caused him. The local Aeon Preists knew enough to diagnose Othvard as suffering from a Void Matter infestation; although, Othvard wasn't suffering. He felt stronger, more hearty beneath his cloak and wrappings.

    Since that day, Othvard has continued to delve, and has even joined a secretive fraternity of other Seekers. His career, passion, and physiology only exacerbate the disconnect he feels from his family and home. He wonders when his travels will take him away from them forever.

    Personality
    Othvard's cloaked, masked appearance makes a much bigger Impression than his personality. Othvard is often dry, analytical, dispassionate. He has an unfortunate tendency to make observations and deductions that upset or offend those he would rather persuade. Despite this, Othvard tries hard to empathize with those around him, and to provide help and comfort where he can. He can also develop a kind of single-minded mania about his work, especially when a fiendish puzzle or mysterious discovery presents itself.

    Effect: If submerged in water, the pod grows quickly. In one minute, it grows into a batlike creature of a level equal to the cypher level. The creature sits on the user’s shoulder for 28 hours or until the user is attacked. The guardian moves to intercept the attack in its entirety. That is the only action it will take.

    After that time, it returns to the user. To decipher the information, the user must ingest the bug, which then relays the recording via mechanical impulses to her brain. She sees and hears the recording only once.

    Usable: Small container filled with metal shavings
    Effect: The shavings sprout sharp legs and rush out of the container to completely encase the user’s body. Each piece locks with another piece to form a flexible mesh. The user gains +1 to Armor for one hour.


    Background:

    Sela grew up in darkness, she did not know where she came from, but she lived her first fourteen years (give or take) in the darkness among those that scuttled and squirmed. She knows not how or why, but they raised her among their own. Bringing food, teaching her, finding her ‘toys’ to play with.
    Among the devices that were brought, one bonded to her and bid her leave her ‘family’ behind. She found it’s pull irresistible. For the first time in her life she was pulled to see the surface, and found it terrifying. Still the object urged her continue, so she travelled through hateful baking heat and bitter relentless rain to find a new place, the spiders here are not like the critters of her home, but they are still more familiar than what she has known.

    Appearance:
    Sela is pale, her skin burned and sore in places where sunlight has touched her, but mostly the white and yellow colour of bone or ivory, her green irises seem large in her eyes, years of absorbing what little light was in the dark, though she often squints against the daylight. Her hair is dark, and ragged.
    She wears a hooded cloak, hiding her head and body from the elements, beneath that her clothes are odd, a weave of silk and fibre, wrapped tightly around her, giving her an almost mummified look.

    Spending Effort (Intellect), Trained in both Numenera and Noticing Details, and trained Help from Rachanea reduces the roll to Level 0, Othvard automatically succeeds.

    Yes it seems to be a mix of to games, the dice are used for a spin on Liars Dice and the card game is comparable the poker.

    At 1 am last night I got a call from my brother, informing me that my father, unexpectedly, had passed in his sleep.

    Obviously, there are certain responsibilities and obligations I need to take care of, my brother, my family, chief among them. As such, I cannot predict what my post rate will be, it may be a week before I am back, it may be that I am posting tonight, if only because of the comfort and familiarity it brings me.

    I am involved in some stories that have touched me, intrigued me, and challenged me. I am looking forward to seeing where the stories we're creating end up going, and ultimately, their conclusion. I plan on picking up the threads that I am involved with, I just need to place them down for a short time. If the story needs to continue without my participation I understand, and please do not delay on my account.

    I'm sorry for your lost, and I understand the things that must be done. I've been busy as of late with work and the holidays, I'll keep posting possibly every other day. Should have a post up tonight as well, sorry for the delay.

    It just so happens that Othvard is a member of a secret society of Seekers, and he can't help but notice that capitalization in Gael's intro. Is the old man at the Inn a member that Othvard might recognize, or bear some kind of symbol?

    Yes Gael is a old fellow of infamous standings, he is a Nano who went to far to explore Outside and it scarred him. He is a scholar with a focus on the datasphere and the outside and ruins tied to both. He is not a member of any organization but last rumor was he disappeared five years ago chasing a enchanting Women who calmed his frights.
