It was in the presentation video, I believe. Just watch it and you'll see the picture.

Here you go:
It is a joyful thing indeed to hold intimate converse with a man after one’s own heart, chatting without reserve about things of interest or the fleeting topics of the world; but such, alas, are few and far between.

Re: 4e PH cover?
I dunno, I kind of liked the leather-bound-gem-studded tome look 3rd Edition had going, but I guess they're nice, if a bit Eberron-esque. Absent minded speculation: Books for players will be blue, books for DMs will be red and monster books will be green.

Re: 4e PH cover?
DMG looks nice to me, I like the overall look. Can't quite see what's going on with the PHB though, what are the two characters there?
If you ask me, the MM is just asking for a huge horde of monsters coming at you rather than one big guy, still looks decent though.Last edited by ChrisMcDee; 2007-08-22 at 07:52 AM.

Is that a Balor on the cover of the new Monster manual?

It's supposed to be Orcus, I am told.

Re: 4e PH cover?
I'm pretty sure I saw the PHB cover somewhere?
Casting guy with pointing hand & Sword & Board fighter in front?
Seem very familiar.

Yeah, I think comparisons have been drawn to this:

Re: 4e PH cover?
It looks to me a lot like the picture of the Eladrin on MM p95.

Re: 4e PH cover?
Matthew,
Here are a few images I found that might be matches and homeages probably because of this article.
I can see the Dragon on the basic set image of the dragon be like the one in the 4ed DMG. The adventurers on the 4ed PHB being the ones in front of the dragon? I dunno. And the other old school DMG cover with the demon be like the one on the 4ed MM ... that looks like a winged demon to me. Anyone else see that too?
Enjoy!
Dizlag
Edit: I think you're right about the 4ed PHB with the Basic Set art you just liked, Matthew. Good find!Last edited by Dizlag; 2007-08-22 at 08:55 AM.

Re: 4e PH cover?
I'd rather say the caster guy's a tiefling, since they now officially happen to be in the PHB.

Hey Dizlag, if you're looking for more old edition Box/Book Art, check out TSR Archive
I think this is supposed to extend the homage:
The Dragon above is scrying on the Characters, just as the Wizard here is scrying on the Characters.Last edited by Matthew; 2007-08-22 at 09:03 AM.

Re: 4e PH cover?
They look kind of okay, but I agree with some of the above that they give a 'splatbook' feeling. The DMG artwork does look pretty spiffy I must admit, but I'm less enamoured with the PHB, it doesn't look very interesting to be honest.

Yeah, it's kind of hard to miss those horns. The "chick" looks like the 3.x Iconic

Re: 4e PH cover?
Matthew,
I think ye got it, laddie! I can definitely see the extension of the homage in that picture you put up. Very kewl!
Now, paying homage to the ole skewl art is one thing, paying homage to the ole skewl gameplay and keeping this game feel like D&D still will be another.
I'm excited about it a LOT! The artwork is like the artwork in Eberron, which I really do enjoy. The new logo is streamlined and simpler to me ... again, hoping the rules will be as well. Hehehe
The white background really makes the logo pop. I can see the sword in the dragon's orb as he's scrying on them. From that article they just put up at Wizards about the Dragon battle ... these characters are in a world of hurt!

Yeah, the proof will be in the pudding for 4e. I don't really mind either way it goes. There are plenty of outlets for the old school these days, I'm happy for 4e to be something new (even if it turns out not to be to my liking).
Sorry, Shhalahr. What resolution are you using? Mine only moved a little bit after the image was quoted. Oh well, apologies, but the people were eager, I couldn't deny them...Last edited by Matthew; 2007-08-22 at 10:07 AM.

Re: 4e PH cover?
That's exactly how I feel. Those really don't look like core rule books as much as eberron campaign setting material to me
I agree the DMG has a nice picture on the cover, but the one on draconomicon was soooo much more awsome (all hail todd lockwood)
By the way, I heard they might be changing the actual art of the amazing dragons they have now. Is that true?Nevermind
