Default Bloodsong's Oasis: Restaurant and Speakeasy

Located right on Westside’s bustling riverfront, the Oasis rises above its surrounding buildings like its namesake water feature, an elegant high-elven style manor place smack in the middle of its unassuming brownstone neighbors. Owned by an orc clan, the establishment was opened to cater mostly to orcs, goblins, lizardfolk, greenskins and beastfolk of all sorts that live and work the city's docks, providing an upscale alternative to the common dockside pub or Friday night chain-restaurant. The restaurant quickly gained notoriety among the fine dining establishment, however, and now proudly serves all patrons, providing an island of glamour among the mostly downtrodden quarter.

    Locations:

Main Dining Room - Ritzy and well-lit, the main dining room presents a spacious promise of jazzy splendour, populated by an array of elegantly furnished tables ringing a large stage at the far end, and a heavy, aged-wood bar at the flank. The bar is appropriately dressed up with real bullet holes and scored with injuries from knife, battle-axe, and arrows, befitting the speakeasy theme. At the stage, live music every night, typically from the house jazz band, fronted by their elegant ettin lead singer (contralto and mezzo-soprano) completes the room with appropriately sultry flair, though guest performances are showcased on occasion, featuring artists from across the Nexus.

Warchief's Lounge: - The secondary dining room, typically rented out for private events and other large pre-booked parties. The layout of the Warchief’s Lounge mirrors that of the main dining room, though on a smaller scale, with its own bar and a raised stage for live music or presentations as needed.

The "Library" - Located upstairs, appropriately behind a hidden door concealed by a bookshelf, and accessible only to those who know the password, this smaller dining room and bar is open mostly for the benefit of VIPs and a more criminal element who may want to dine and conduct business without being exposed to the common patrons, but without needing to go through the trouble and exposure of renting a private dining room. Occasionally, a secondary password may be distributed to regular diners to open up The Library for special party nights, whiskey tastings, smoking nights, and other events.

Private Dining Rooms - Private dining rooms. For rent. They range in size from several tables, suitable for small parties, or individual rooms for a more intimate setting. Several of them are on balconies overlooking the main dining room, allowing patrons to dine in private while still enjoying the live music and atmosphere, while others might be tucked away entirely, for maximum seclusion.

    Staff:

Sokhatai Bloodsong - The owner and proprietress of the speakeasy. Warchief Bloodsong was once a ruthless, bloodthirsty warlord who for more than two decades crushed her enemies, saw them driven before her, and heard the lamentations of their women. Then she retired, bought an elaborate high elven manor with the spoils, and turned it into a speakeasy. Sokhatai leaves much of the day-to-day running of the speakeasy to her children, but tends to be present most days, enjoying the spoils of a mostly quiet retirement. It is what is best in life.

Geugi, North Wind, and Percival - Sokhatai's three children. The Bloodsong clan helps Sokhatai run most of the affairs of the restaurant, and the three of them can be seen most nights either managing the floor, working behind the scenes, or schmoozing around the bar, ready to step in at a moment’s notice.

Asterios - A beefy, charismatic minotaur who works as the speakeasy’s head bartender and master mixologist. The always sharp-dressed Asterios works at all three of the restaurant’s bars at varying intervals, working his charms on most of the ladies (and many of the men) within a 10 meter radius.

Other servers - The Bloodsongs hire from a variety of species - the bulk of them orcs, minotaurs, and other ‘beast’ races pressed into sharp eveningwear, but a small number of human and elven ‘diversity hires’ as well, who help handle more difficult patrons.

Bouncers - Just in case dining at an establishment run by orcs weren’t enough of a deterrent, Bloodsong employs only the finest in anti-troublemaking. A small number of lizardfolk, trolls, and ogres keep a sharp eye out and will politely-but-firmly show anyone making too large of a fuss the door. And the road. And possibly the opposite sidewalk. Klusk managed to toss someone all the way to the river, once.

    Menu (an non-exhaustive list)

    On Draft:

Spud Lite - A goblin brew, made from root vegetables and fungus. Light on calories and flavor, though possessed of an unfortunate rank aroma, this heavily advertised and economical lager remains a staple for patrons looking to party through the night.
    in progress

    Wine Menu:

Camlar Reserve - Aged to perfection, tomorrow. Temporal anomalies and stable-time loops a rare side-effect of consumption
    Catoblepas Sauvingnon
Chimera Cabernet - A hearty red with a hits of oak and black cherry.
Constitution Crushing Wine - Fort. DC 35 or pass out!
Kobold Chianti - Tart. Tangy. Shifty.
Merfolk Merlot - Full-bodied with a hint of rose.
Spoonake Chablis - Straight from the Underdark!
    in progress

    Premium Liquors:

    in progress

    Speciality Cocktails:

Djinn and Tonic - Whirling ice cubes, fizzy soda, and one drunk genie.
Jam Giblet - Gin, “raspberry jam”, lime. Don’t think too hard about the consistency.
Warchariot Sidecar - Hobgoblin brandy, blood orange liqueur, lemon juice.
    in progress

    Apps and Snacks:

    in progress

    Chef's Specials:

A whole hog, roasted - A whole hog. Roasted. Parties of 4+ only.
Live Eel Platter - Seasoned with swampwater and fermented kelp. A lizardfolk delicacy, other species may find it to be too... wriggly.
    in progress

    Desserts:

Sam Bacon, having since stowed his firearm at home on their way there, so as to not get his party thrown out on the spot, arrives in his nicest little jacket escorting Lucy, a thin, fancy-dressed elven lady. He would get more dressed up but he didn't want to overdo it and the place kind of confuses him in terms of formality.

    ---

Later, Krayger (No Surname Found) wanders to the bar, badly in need of a drink. He's dressed as he always is, shirtless, having never cared for modesty, least of all in Riverside where he's enforcing the laws half the time anyway.
"Any recommendations, barkeep?" he says as he sits down, though he's staring at the counter and doesn't actually see the fellow at the moment.

"That depends," comes the reply, in a deep voice as richly silky warm as molten fudge. The source of the voice would be another minotaur, or minotaurc rather, tall and broad-shouldered with glossy mahogany brown fur wearing a finely tailored white shirt and vest combo that seems far too flimsy for his bulky frame, the fine material seeming at constant risk of tearing under the strain of containing the well-defined muscles visible in his arms, chest and back as he works. He approaches Krayger's spot, turning briefly to pull a bottle off the shelf behind him and flipping it upside-down to expertly pour a precise measure into the stainless steel cocktail shaker in his other hand. "What are you looking to taste, big guy?"

Lucy is still wearing her fancy metallic dress - the lights in the restaurant causing the hidden patterns to shimmer and shift across her like lights dancing across a river as she strolls in beside Sam. She looks around with a bright smile and nods, "This seems like a nice place. Love the atmosphere. Reminds me of- ah, not really relevant now, I suppose."

And in a blatant display of wealth, she slips over to the bar and promptly pays for a private dining room overlooking the main stage for the two of them.

Krayger is no slouch in his hygiene, though he’s never quite gotten to the point one might call his coat glossy. His horns might, though as he’s very particular about polishing them.
He looks up and starts to open his mouth when a rune flashes through his brain with an unheard peal of giddy laughter. At this point he knows what this means, and would likely feel panic, horror, or something of that nature. But of course we couldn’t have pesky emotions like that killing the mood, so Rassa’s curse takes that tight ball of emotions and shoves it down the chutes marked for “admiration” and “lust” in his brain, leaving him with fluttering eyes and a fast beating heart.
”I’m pretty sure we’re the same size, buddy. What have you got for someone who’s had a long day? Preferably something I can have plenty of.” he says, wth a look that might be staring off into the distance remembering the horrors of the day. Or it could just be him absent-mindlessly admiring the barkeep’s frame, though realistically they are actually about equals in that regard.

    ———

Sam follows Lucy to the private room, amazed at the thought of being so stupid rich.
”So...I don’t think you’ve actually told me anything about you. Like. The Who what and where’s.” he says after they’ve sat down.

"Well, is there much to tell? I'm a stranger in an unknown land who has stumbled upon a kind, helpful man. And now I'm thanking you with dinner and one of the best views in the house." She gestures at the stage down below with one hand, picking up a copy of the menu with the other and idly flicking through it. "Do the who, what and whens matter much now?"

Sam does the same, flipping through the menu with his lower arms while his upper ones lounge on the top of the seat.
”Sure they do. People pester me with questions all the time when they meet me the first time. ‘Sam, what even are you? Where are you from? How did you learn to cook? Did your ancestors hate you or something, having the surname Bacon? It’s part of making friends.” he explains.

"Honestly, Sam, a lot of those don't sound like the sorts of questions I'd expect a friend to ask. I suppose I can't deny that I did internally wince a little at hearing that your surname is Bacon. It does seem rather unfortunate. But other than that, who am I to quiz you on what you are and why you are the way you are?" Lucy smiles up at him, "Where are you from, though, that sounds like a much safer question. So tell me Sam, where are you from? What was it like for you when you first arrived here?"

"I'm from Skyside, a ways away that way. I always hated it. So coming here was a dream come true. I was nervous for a while, ugly me living in the prettiest part of town with the prettiest people, but no one seems to mind. They keep telling me I look fine and it's nice of them to say that. Dory called me 'adorkable' which is something. And eventually I met Sherrel and we're pretty happy. Though one day I'll really have to get a place with her." he says with a shrug, reminiscing of his tour with his Broker, Dory.

A little distance from the bar, somewhere where he has a good look at the establishment, sits a short, brown-skinned goblin with pale red eyes. There's a wolf at his feet, laying down obediently and peering at the patrons without moving. Nexus natives will likely recognize him as Dipsnig Razortooth, the Chief Executive of MERC, but those less in the know might not.

"Sounds like Skyside, at least, is something I'm going to have to explore on my own then. Not sure where "adorkable" comes from - you seemed quite dashing when you were saving me earlier. Speaking of which, please don't feel like you have to order the cheapest thing off the menu just to be polite or anything. This is a nice place. Let's enjoy a good meal and toast your good deed for the day, hmm?" Lucy smiles sweetly as she sets the menu down, her mind apparently made up.

"No. You will not go to Skyside. It's a wretched hive of scum and villainy and it's no place for a lady who can't handle herself in Inside." Sam insists, banging a hand on the table for emphasis.
Then he smiles, and will order no less than two entrees and an appetizer. Preferably soup in there somewhere, and anything but pork. Sam is a large man with a stomach as big as you'd think it is, and he doesn't get free meals often.

"A wretched hive of scum and villainy? Sounds interesting. Now I just have to go have a look." Lucy gives a teasing grin as she selects the hottest item on the menu. Yes, that one, with a red warning label indicating that it's meant for the more monstrous of the restaurant's patrons and really shouldn't be consumed by anyone frailer than an orc.

Lucy looks considerably frailer than an orc.

She smiles politely and holds out the menu until the waiter takes it with an exasperated sigh.

Sam orders soup, curry, and chicken.
Sam frowns at Lucy. Then he makes note of her order. Her piles of expensive gemstones. Her wanton ignorance of certain peril. Her comment about not normally wearing clothes. Being distracted by shinies. And her shiny metallic dress.
And then Sam tries to put all those pieces together because this has been bugging him even if he doesn’t have much to go on besides the books he’s been struggling to read in order to raise his reading level.
”Lucy, are you a dragon or something?” he asks candidly.

Lucy tilts her head and gives Sam a rather confused look. "Um, no? Not exactly the response I expected to a light-hearted threat to put myself in peril and require rescuing again. I, mm, I might have had a bit of a habit of ditching my guardians and giving them a bit of a headache. This, um, may not be the first time I've accidentally wandered my way into jeopardy? Although I don't think I've ever managed to end up quite so far away from where I intended to be before." Lucy hangs her head rather sheepishly and awkwardly scratches the back of her head.

Sam is a good liar. But he doesn’t always lie. And sometimes when he tells the truth he has trouble stopping.
”No, it wasn’t that. Well, it was that, and the fact that you ordered food that could send a troll begging for water. And you’re rich. And you have pointy teeth. Sam is counting on his fingers at this point, And your hair is a pretty green which isn’t usually a natural elf thing, and you like pretty shiny things, and you told me that you don’t wear clothes often.” Sam had to go to his third hand to count all those things.
”I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to pry. You’re just a very interesting person. You don’t have to answer anything.” he says, trying to bury his face behind the wine list. It doesn’t really work because it’s a small booklet and he has a large head.

"You know, the life of a noble can be very boring at times. "Interesting" is the single most common compliment used by noblemen who just want to get in my bedchambers. Though I've never seen it used as slang for "I think you're a dragon" before." Lucy chuckles, affording Sam a chance to reclaim his dignity and put that silly menu down as she turns to stare at the stage down below. "And if I may point out a bit of an assumption on your part, Sam, who is to say that green hair and sharp teeth aren't perfectly normal traits where I'm from? Or that I'm an elf at all, for that matter, hmm?"

Sam does not in fact put down the menu, still clearly embarrassed for running his mouth.
"Well that's why people ask those kinds of questions like I said. But I'd never be in your bedchambers, Lucy. I'm spoken for!" he insists, withdrawing a phone and displaying the picture of himself with his cyborg blonde girlfriend Sherrel that he shows basically everyone. He still can hide his face though because four arms.

Although if Sam has seen other people unfamiliar with tech-y stuff going through this process, he might note that Lucy seems to be taking it all in her stride quite well.

"You probably don't need to dumb it down quite that much, Sam." Lucy harrumphs and folds her arms. Perhaps Sam spoke down to her a little bit too much with that explanation. Although her grumpiness lasts for all of about two seconds. "Not sure I'd get much use out of one though? I wouldn't really have anyone to talk to!" Not that this seems to bother her much.

"Sooo if you've never met one, why would you think this-" she gestures to herself, "Would be something a dragon can do? I mean, that's quite a scary thought if it's true, isn't it? Some regular ol' guy walking down the street could suddenly turn into a big scary dragon and eatcha!"

"And if it is something a dragon could do and you're right, then wouldn't that make me dangerous?" Lucy flashes him a toothy grin, then shrugs, shifting her menu aside as their food is brought in. "Anyway, I think you're far more interesting than me - in a strictly non-bedchambers way, of course."

Sam raises an eyebrow. "Everybody knows that dragons are magic and some of them could shapeshift. Yeah, it's dangerous, but so is a punk with a gun hidden in his coat. One of my bosses can kill me with a look if her glasses ever fall off.

Honestly I'm pretty boring except visually. If I wasn't two meters tall and blue no one would give me a second look."
    he insists.

At the mention of a boss who could "kill Sam with a look", Lucy's eyes light up...which she quickly hides by tucking into her absurdly spicy meal. Just the scent coming from it might be enough to leave Sam with a slight burning feeling in his nostrils. "Sounds like a scary person. You should take me to say hi to her. But, um, less being all negative about yourself! Uninteresting people d-don't go around saving ladies in distress, you know."

”You sound like an adrenaline junkie. And I don’t know, I’m starting to think you could have handled it, being so eager to go everywhere I think you shouldn’t.” he teases, sipping his soup.

"N-now that'd just be nonsense, Sam! If I could've handled myself, it'd cheapen your heroic actions! And I wouldn't want to do that. Not when it's, mm, entirely possible I might at some point stumble into a similarly dangerous place and be in need of your help again. Wouldn't be the first time...or the tenth." Lucy coughs awkwardly, her cheeks flushing slightly. Not that there's a long list of prior heroes who've saved her from a certain demise or anything.

Sam laughs, a jovial kind of laugh that comes from the gut.
”Now I know that you do these things on purpose. Who are you anyway, Lucy, to so easily walk into danger and drop jewels like dinner mints? I’m just a street rat, after all.”
