Default OOC for 5e Sunless Citadel

This is the OOC thread for the 5e Sunless Citadel game. I will post rules here, etc. The thread is intended for all OOC discussion for the game.

    Rules
Please post at least once every day, or every other day if every day is too difficult. If you will be unavailable for a longer period, please tell me ahead of time so that we can decide what to do with your character while you are gone. I will soon be creating an IC thread, and I will link to it here.
IC Thread. I reserve the right to kick players out of the game, but I don't believe it will be necessary. Please reserve out-of-character conversation to this thread. Thank you.

Galinndan Nai'lo bows before the adventurers before him, and spins a greeting flourished with grammatical goldenrod and periwinkle praise.

Anyone here use skype or discord for OOC chat? I have it for some other games and it seems somewhat helpful.

I haven't come across that yet, but I don't really see the advantage it would bring over just posting here in the thread/sending PMs if something needs to be discussed.

Seems to get faster responses, especially to things that require some back and forth.

I've used Discord servers before for Pbp games, and it can be a nice tool to increase the frequency of people posting. Depends on the group and preference. The positive is that you can get a notification quicker to your phone than logging into GitP. Up to the DM if they want to use it.

Also to the DM, do you want us to roll for initiative when combat starts, or do you want to roll for everyone and post the order?

I would prefer not to use discord.

As for initiative, it's probably quicker if I roll. I will do that at the start of each combat after this one.

Order in this one is Fargrim, Harbek, rats, Beorn, Galinndan, (or at least that would make sense).

Are we tracking XP individually, or are we all going to be on the same track?

CircleOfTheRock - we were posting at the same time. Otherwise I would have had Beorn respond. In fact, I think I will edit in a few words so he isn't just ignoring Fargrim.

Unless you make the mistake of splitting the party, you will all have the same XP.

As Fargrim said, chain mail and thus disadvantage on stealth isn't quite desirable... should he take it off, stay behind, or should we take our chances?

Beorn isn't trained on stealth (though has decent Dex) so if we shrug and go ahead without sneaking I won't complain. Either way.

Harbek has decent stealth, but since he decided to light a lantern it'd be difficult anyways. I think we can move without being too worried, we've only just started.

As the DM, I cannot tell you which to do.

However, I am waiting to tell you what happens when you go down the stairs until you decide whether or not to go stealthily.

Looks like Fargrim and Harbek are going to hang behind and give Beorn and Galinndan a chance to sneak ahead. If you want to do this, Stack needs to roll stealth for Beorn.

However, Beorn needs the lantern to see. He'll need to stay back near Harbek. Galinndan could go ahead alone, or the group could stick together

How far away would sneaking party members go out ahead of us, if they decide to do that? A lantern's light extends 60', 30' bright + 30' dim light.

If they're within the light of the lantern, even the dim light, they will be silhouetted against the lamp. They would have to be > 60ft away.

Ok. In that case, you can tell that the ash is very old, a couple of years probably.

In case you missed it, I miscalculated the XP value of the rat in the pit. I have changed the value in the post to fix it, and I will post it here.

It should be 6, not 13.

For the trap investigation, I was going off the idea that Galinndan did not see the outline of the secret door like Fargrim. Since Fargrim didn't mention its presence, Galinndan likely would have just checked the two ancient-looking doors.

But I'll let DM decide if the party is now aware of the secret door outline.

Since I didn't spoiler it, you all know. If I spoiler something, then it is restricted to the characters named in the spoiler title.

Gotcha, in that case he'll also check the door outline for traps/an opening mechanism?

If you need another check I'll do that here:

Ah, good to know. It's been why I haven't been posting either, I was waiting for Fargrim to tell the group he found a secret door so expertised Thieves' tools could get to work.

Oof, big and ugly is right. A critical hit would've outright dropped Harbek to 0, and as it is he's barely standing at 4.

    Level 1 is so rough.
