Default Colony of Talan (OOC Thread)

    Please repost your sheets here.

    Dieties
    Spoiler
    Show

    New World:
J'asam: LG The Great Mother. The sole god of the lizardfolk of Lirator. She hatched the world from her egg, died protecting it from vultures from the vile desert, and was reborn again from the tears of the great earthshakers. Her symbol is the cracked world egg and her weapon is the shortspear. The tenets of J'asam demand that non-believers be converted, and if they refuse to believe in her, they will be damned to the vile desert when they die.

Svetonj: CN The World Horse. Centaur people believe that the world is drawn through the cosmos, bridled to a massive horse. They do not believe that he directs or controls many aspects of the world, but is a force of nature and often things that occur are due to him. His symbol is a horsehead, and he has no weapon. Believers in the World Horse are encouraged to recognize the connections between actions and consequences, and emulate the free spirit of the wild horse.

    Old World:
Gosmotivi: CN The Lady of Thunder. She is the patron goddess of orcs. It is said she shattered the rock with her lightning and from the broken rock arose the orc. Her symbol is a lightning bolt striking a stone and her weapon is the warhammer. The tenets of Gosmotivi inspire creation of great works of art and crafstmanship.

Zeljek: NG The Green Man. He is the patron god of dwarves. He sang a song to the dusty plains and up popped the first creations: the dwarves. Because so little had grown in the world, they were stunted and small. His symbol is the oak tree, standing tall and his weapon is the scythe. The tenets of Zeljek encourage tending and careful husbandry of the natural world.

Pticna: LN The Steel Bird. She is the patron goddess of elves. She was created by the long lost patriarch of the elven race as a mechanical being inspired with the spark of life. She watches over all elves and inspires their inventive pursuits. Under her gaze they force steel and work all kinds of mechanical things. Her symbol is a grey bird, and her weapon is clawed gauntlets. The tenets of Pticna demand creation of useful and practical tools.

Bijjak: CN The Bright Sorcerer. He is the patron god of mankind. He stole the secrets of magic from the immortal first men, and gave it to the great wizards of the second men. Angered, the immortal first men tried to strike down the second men, but they mastered magic and fought back, banishing the first men to the outermost demiplanes. His symbol is the open tome, and his weapon is the staff. The tenets of Bijjak insist on pursuing knowledge at all costs.

Malibor: LE The little warrior. He is the patron god of halflings. He was once a tall human warrior who conquered the world in battle. In his last battle he was cut in half by a chariot's bladed wheels. Angered by this, as half a man, he stood, growing new legs, and finished the battle, killing everyone. His symbol is a pair of crossed swords and his weapon is the short sword. His tenets demand excellence in battle.

Vrajig: TN The Fire Queen. She is the patron goddess of tieflings. She forges the tieflings out of the impure metals, twisting them into their demonic forms. Her symbol is the forge fire, and her weapon is the smithing hammer. Her tenets demand making use of everything you are given, and wasting nothing.

Plannil: NG The Mountain Mother. She is the patron goddess of gnomes and fey creatures. It is said the gnomes were birthed by the mountain, popping out of the natural caves and recesses. Her symbol is the mountain, and her weapon is the pickaxe. Her tenets demand exploration of the natural world and the deep places to find the secrets of the world.

Tajna: LE The Faceless Judge. He is the patron god of secrets, forbidden knowledge and the afterlife. It is said he guards the barrier between the material plane and the hells, determining whether the souls should be reincarnated or pass on to the afterlife in the hells. His symbol is the tipped scales, and his weapon is crossbow. His tenets demand strict adherence to the word of law.

    Lesser Spirits/Demonic Entities
    Spoiler
    Show

NOTE: it's entirely possible for new world spirits and demons to influence those in the old world. I've listed where they are most known in the cosmology.

    New World
Hudim: CE The Lingering Darkness. Hudim is an entity made of black smoke or out of the dark itself. It is believed he is the voice you hear when you are about to do something evil. The lizardfolk believe that Hudim tempted J'asam with sweet food and succulent meat to get her to leave the world-egg she was hatching, but she denied him three times. Those who commit suicide are spoken of as being slain by Hudim. Those who fall to Hudim give into their basest instincts. He is represented by a black cloud.

Petka: NE The Hoof Biter. Petka is a huge snake and encircles the world, biting at Svetonj's hooves and legs. The Hladonj, a centaur tribe far to the north, claim to have seen the shimmering scales of Petka on clear winter nights, as he squeezes the world. Followers of Petka are motivated by greed and self-love. He is represented by a shining serpent.

    Old World:
Levej: LE The Dark Contract. Levej is a demonic entity that makes pacts and deals with those in their darkest hours. Anyone destined for one of the hells is sure to try to make a contract with Levej in their last hours, trading some part of their immortal soul to be reincarnated. Revenents are deeply connected to Levej, as it is believed the only way they could come back in their current form is to give part of their soul to the demon. His symbol is the signed scroll. He has few direct followers, but those that do are sly dealmakers.

Stormaj: CE The Devourer. Stormaj is a creature that is a large group of mouths filled with sharp teeth. He consumes all who come near him, and trap their souls, preventing reincarnation or passing into the hells. Some think that his stomach is actually one of the hells, resulting in eternal torment of those consumed. He is represented by a toothy grin, and his followers tend towards hedonistic lifestyles as when they die they will be consumed by him.

Dugalf: TN The False God. Dugalf is a shining angelic figure once worshiped as a deity by many in the old world. Her original name is long lost to history, but she still has a presence in small cults and individual worshipers. She would shepherd souls of her followers to a demiplane she controlled when they died. All that was required is that you believed in her before the moment of your death and you would go to this paradise. It was discovered that those that did not follow her, if they led good lives, were reincarnated and born into the world again, while her followers were merely trapped in the demiplane she controlled. Tajna, then a mere mortal, did battle with Dugalf's avatar, slaying him and impaling him upon spike. The divine power from the avatar's blood splashed on Tajna, ascending him to godhood. He broke open the demiplane Dugalf controlled and freed the spirits there to the cycle of reincarnation. Dugalf's symbol is a man impaled upon a spike, and her followers are encouraged to charity and believe if they worship her they will be brought into a demiplane that is paradise when they die instead of being reincarnated or risking eternity in the hells.

Duskrit: CN The Trickster. Duskrit is a mischievous spirit of immense power. Often taking the form of a cloaked man or a purple tiger with a rictis grin, Duskrit is the one blamed when something goes hilariously wrong. He has started wars out of boredom, made enemies fall in love, and even stole the light of the sun for a while, until he was bored with it and gave it back. He is represented by a smiling cat, and his followers believe in having fun, and playing pranks.

    Old World Nations:
    Spoiler
    Show

Zumkral: Zumkral is the largest nation in the Old World, and has several colonies in the new world, including Talan, Irisal and Parah. It is a monarchy ruled by an elven family (though there have been human and half elven monarchs in the past as the family has mixed its blood). The nation has a large mix of all the common races, with numerous lords and ladies of all kinds. Zumkral's capital, Shepta, is one of the largest cities of the old world.

Caraix: Caraix is one of two large Republics in the Old World. Caraix is a collection of city-states, with its capital as the large city of Vaes. There is only one colony of Caraix in the New World, but it is one of the largest currently established. The colony of Papallona boasts a population of five thousand, far more than other colonies. Caraix only grants citizenship and voting rights to Orc, Tiefling, and Elves, as these races founded the Republic. All other races are tolerated, but treated as second class citizens.

Lepti: Lepti is an Empire that is slowly failing. In a last-ditch effort to reclaim the glory, the halfling Emperor of Lepti sent an expedition from the capital port city of Rutuf. They established a relatively small colony of Noar, which is mostly made of halflings. Lepti is a class-based society that is largely ruled by halflings, with humans and dragonborn making up most of the second class. The Lepti Empire is one of the few places in the Old World where slavery is practiced, and well over half the population of the Empire is goblin slaves.

Hello and thanks for running the game!

    Aeradeth Ostoroth - High Elf - Rogue(Arcane Trickster)/Wizard(Bladesinger)

For the IC Thread, Aeradeth will speak in Dark Goldenrod

    Spoiler: 10 Min Background
    Show
    Step 1: Background Bits
    1. Aeradeth carries a raven familiar (from find familiar spell) with him. Her name is Liz.
    2. Being an only child, when his mother was imprisoned for failing to pay taxes he became orphaned. His mother's whereabouts are unknown to him. She never really brought up a father figure to Aeradeth as a child.
    3. On the streets Aeradeth began to run cons to gain coin, however this quickly led him to being behind bars. He served two years before being saved.
    4. A drunk Satyr accidentally opened a riff to the Feywild within his cell. Aeradeth went with the Satyr to the Fey, where he became intoxicated by the Fey grandeur. Many years had gone by before he realized the amount of time which had passed.
    5. Aeradeth now returns to the material plane in search of his mother.

    Step 2: Goals
    1. Find information leading to the discovery of his mother's whereabouts. Return him and his mother to the Feywild. His last bit of information received hinted at her being sold into slavery and shipped to the New World.
    2. The spellbook continues to perplex Aeradeth. He is determined to break the riddles of the book, and develop as a wizard. He bought a secondary spellbook in which he is slowly transcribing the spells into a form he readily understands. (Doing this as noted in the "Your Spellbook" section on page 114 of the PHB)

    Step 3: Secrets
    1. The spellbook which Aeradeth carries was recently stolen from a power wizard. Not very familiar with magic, he treats these spells like recipes, carrying all the components and following the instructions. Unknown to Aeradeth, the Wizard was dabbling in dark rituals and wants this book to remain hidden. Aeradeth carries a second spellbook, disguised to look like the stolen book, in which he copies the spells he can decipher.
    2. Corrupted by the Feywild, emotions and thoughts of beauty have been morphed in Aeradeth's mind. The material plane seems drab and joyless. He experiences outbursts of irrational behavior occasionally (like an addict without their addiction of choice).
    3. Unknown to Aeradeth, his mother is alive. Over 20 years have passed from the last time he's seen her. Up to DM's discretion where she is/what kind of states she's in, but Aeradeth last heard she's in the New World.

    Step 4: Relationships
    1. Mother: A single mother, Keya Ostoroth, barely made a living within the city. When debtors came to collect or imprison, she had no choice but to be led away in manacles. Her whereabouts are unknown to Aeradeth.
    2. Satyr: The Satyr Apis Moot saved Aeradeth from prison, and brought him to an endless party within the Feywild. He took up a mentor role for the young elf, but also refined his con game: largely for selfish reasons.
    3. Old Companion/Orphan: Aeradeth's best friend as a child was another elvish orphan named Goras Faezorwyn. In Aeradeth's time away, Goras took up the adventurer's mantle as a Ranger.
    4. Wizard: Drodagast Athar was a magistrate wizard for a noble lord for a long period, however in the last decade the wizard has stepped down from the position and moved into a tower in the outskirts of society. Aeradeth robbed the tower and stole his prize spellbook, which Aeradeth is using to slowly teach himself in the arcane. Understandably, the Wizard was quite upset to learn the spellbook was stolen.

    Step 5: Memories, Mannerisms, Quirks
    1. Doesn't like to show his face in public, choosing to instead wear an alabaster mask. Aeradeth is aware of his ambiguous appearance, and isn't above using his looks to con any and everyone.
    2. Will have full length conversations with Liz the Raven.
    3. Spends his free time attempting to read and comprehend his Spellbook. A large part of the book can't be read at his current level of understanding.
    4. He is fond of pranks and general trickery.

We of the unicorn clan are the best horsemen in the land, our horses are our lives,we live as one,we fight as one,we die as one.

We are all awesome, each and every one of us, no matter who or what we are. Except those people who want to make other people feel bad ... them .. not so much!

Would those of us who came on the ship (except Avani) have a letter or something declaring our passage in exchange for service to the crown or something of the sort? Or would that have been handled behind the scenes by the captain, etc.

Not normally, no. There'd be no need for it. You would potentially have the letter the Page handed you (except for Spirit) though it does not specifically mention anything except that you were to come to the palace.

Probably would only take 20-30 minutes, mostly because it is through underbrush rather than through a mostly broken path.

    Rengore Survival to gather food and wood (1d20)[19] + 3 = 22

Avani survival (if you want to help hide the campsite from enemies) (1d20)[19] + 4 = 23

As a note for Aeradeth, the Raven does not have any special senses, so their vision is limited to the light provided by the fire (30ft bright light 30ft dim light)

Was going to build one of those rope traps that pulls the victim up by their ankle, but I'm using the rope for something else now.
