Re: Sea of Stars - OOC
I don't recall if we're in a huge hurry, but if not we could spend a couple of weeks at anchor for some extended repairs (p. 228 Core Rulebook) on the Talon and, if you'll allow it, perhaps make an attempt at replenishing the Talon's morale. According to the rules on p. 226 we could fully restore morale in two weeks, since the colony represents human civilisation. Though if contact with Jonell's colonists is a no-no after the blockade, three weeks should do it (by treating the system as uninhabited).

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC
I don't think we're in a particular rush. I like the idea of giving the crew some shore leave.
Since we can't transfer all the data over, can the navigators come study it and copy over some interesting areas that haven't been explored in the modern era? Presumably they can make maps by looking at the chart. It's not as good as the whole Expanse, but it could still be useful and interesting. Maybe set ourselves up some colonies?

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC
If we do stay longer Anika is going to make sure she is present if the colonists do dig anything up. Otherwise she'll do what she can to study the map. I assume there's probably a priest in the colony or on the Sting who might have a better chance at reading it.
If we're bringing in Navigators to help, she'll help look for potential colony sites, but she'll also look to see if there's any indication of what happened to the people who built the map.

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC
You're not in a huge hurry, not since you scared off the blockade.
The artifact: The Talon has a laboratorium, which Ravia got working again. If you take it there, you get +20 on your tests involving it, which might help with the translation. It would also help if you want the Navigators to take down some stellar data, which you can do. It won't give you any mechanical benefits, the information wouldn't be complete enough for that, but it could well result in a few interesting jumping-off points for exploration and profit.
Morale: You can stay two weeks and fully replenish morale. During that time, Ravia (or someone else, but I think Ravia's tech use is highest) can direct repairs. The book says that you regain 1d5 points of hull integrity at the end of repairs, no matter how long you spend, which doesn't make a tremendous amount of sense to me. Having checked the errata and found nothing, I'll make a ruling: Every week, make a Tech-Use test. On a successful test, regain 1d5 Hull Integrity. This cannot take the ship above 50% hull integrity, or 25% for any ship of Light Cruiser class or larger.
The Talon is an Iconoclast, so it actually repairs 1d5+2 per week. The most you'll be able to fix it up to without proper repairs is 14.
So, assuming that's the route you want to take, I need:
Two Tech-Use tests from Ravia.
A roll from Anika to find a priest amongst the crew who can translate. You can roll Crew Rating +20, +10 for assist, or Inquiry. Whichever is higher.
Anything else?I do LP's sometimes! I'm currently on hiatus for college purposes.

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC
Not disputing your ruling on repairs, but I think the point of not enabling anything but minimal repairs to hull damage without putting in at an inhabited planet or space station is to show that the best one can manage is a relatively simple patch job. The important bit is that any successful extended repairs can restore a ship from crippled status and automatically makes all components fully functional again unless they're destroyed.
So even with just 1d5+2 hull points repaired on the Talon, we have a fully functional vessel - not one we want to take into combat of course, but it can sail through the void and travel the warp without penalty.

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC
Oh, indeed. That's why I capped it at a percentage of hull integrity. The part that makes no sense is that the best you can manage is 1d5, no matter how many weeks you spend, and there was no limit on retries. There's no real benefit to enacting repairs for more than one week, so the optimal strategy would be to declare that you're spending one week at a time on repairs, see if your techpriest passes, regain 1d5 or not, repeat ad infinitum. In this case the main limit on repairs is time, because you can declare you're spending as many one-week blocks as you want. This is probably against the spirit of the rules, but it is how the rules actually worked, and looking around the internet I couldn't find a whole lot of consensus as to how they should work.
I did edit it slightly, by the way. It's now in the first post, under "Assorted Notes" and reads:Extended Repairs: Every week, make a Tech-Use test. On a successful test, regain 1d5 Hull Integrity. This cannot regain more than 50% of the ship's total hull integrity, or 25% for any ship of Light Cruiser class or larger. Once the maximum value has been restored, the ship must put in to a suitable world for proper repairs and resupply before it can enact extended repairs again.
In any case, this is the rule we'll be going with, and if it's a little more generous than intended then so be it. I'm sure you guys won't complain too much.
The Talon regains (2d5+4)[8] integrity, and it looks like you finally found somebody who can read the map. I've got a pile of stuff to do today, so you can still submit other rolls/ideas/whatever, and I'll do an update when I get home.I do LP's sometimes! I'm currently on hiatus for college purposes.

Perhaps use a fate point to re-roll? And assume Hannabel will assist, reducing the difficulty one step (effectively +10) and giving an extra degree of success.

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC
Pretty nice roll. That's 7 degrees of success, which boosts the augury range by quite a lot. Which is good, because this is far enough away to be outside the standard range.

If Anika is checking her Forbidden Lore (Xenos), Hannabel might as well do the same. If it's a success, I'll post something IC once I know what to say...

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC
Without a closer look, it'd be hard to say. You're pretty sure it's not Xenos, though. The alloys you're picking up are all known human construction materials, which pretty much rules out everything but Orks and maybe Stryxis. And while it could be orks, orks still need to breath and they still need a power source on their ships. Usually an egregiously oversized one. It's also unlikely for a lone transport to survive long near an intact and functional ork ship of that size. Stryxis, on the other hand, typically aren't hostile.
Do you want to take a closer look? You could go on silent and close to visual range while still scanning for ambushers, because you have the passive array.I do LP's sometimes! I'm currently on hiatus for college purposes.

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC
Going with Hannabel's initiative, to keep things moving. Now that you can see the ship, you might be able to tell a little more about it. Anyone with the following skills can roll them:
Scholastic Lore (Legend), Common Lore (Imperial Navy), Forbidden Lore (Archeotech, Heresy). Focused Auguries are also an option.I do LP's sometimes! I'm currently on hiatus for college purposes.

Ravia:
SpoilerThe wreck is a very, very old design: the Jupiter-class, later renamed the Murder-class after many of the ships fell to Chaos several millenia ago. This particular ship shows little to no sign of warp corruption, which would be strange if not for the runes of warding hammered into its hull.

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC
Hannabel:
SpoilerThis clearly used to be a Navy ship. You recognise some of the heraldry, including the winged fleet sigil of the Imperial Navy. The Battlefleet icon is for Battlefleet Solar, but you don't know the Battlegroup. Much of the iconography seems to have been placed overtop of older heraldry, which is a little odd for Navy, since they typically commission their own ships.I do LP's sometimes! Re: Sea of Stars - OOC
Not quite as good, but enough for some basic information. I've put that in the IC.
If you want to stick some sensors on a servitor team and send them over, that would totally be possible. Can I get a tech-use test from Ravia to program the servitors? You can then send them to explore specific components, or just to explore in general. I'll account for that by rolling Navigation tests for them, with a bonus based on how many degrees of success Ravia passes tech-use by. How many would you like to send?I do LP's sometimes! Alright. Still need to know how many you want to send. No more than can actually fit in your shuttle, so say 10-15 max?

Maybe the bridge and possibly the section where the Pride's Captain went. I take it we can tape a camera to the servitors so we can see what happens to them if they get into trouble?
Edit - Missed your post. If we can send more, maybe just explore with the rest. Unless anyone else has any suggestions.Last edited by Haval; 2018-05-09 at 08:04 PM.

Re: Sea of Stars - OOC
Those would be good. Also the Gellar drive and power plant. And yeah, as many as we can fit in a shuttle. In proud Imperial tradition, Macharius is sending a wave of expendable troops in first to check for traps by dying. In a shocking twist, he's using semi-expensive servitors rather than a suicide rush of conscripts.
