Elder Scrolls Online is having a free play event right now (as in, you can make an account and play the base game for free until the event ends). It’s scheduled to last until the 26th.

That one is indeed permanently free. In fact, you can find a collection of the permanently free games on GOG right here.

In that collection, I'd like to draw your attention to Beneath a Steel Sky, which is a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk sci-fi dystopia adventure game set in Australia.

Of the free versions, I most recommend ScummVM + Enhanced Soundtrack. The Amiga and Amiga CD32 versions have also been released for free, but I doubt anyone here is interested when ScummVM + Enhanced Soundtrack exists. It's notable because (before the enhanced soundtrack) it had the best audio by far. If anyone wants the Amiga versions, let me know and I'll post some links to legal download sites.

Arena and Daggerfall, at least, have been free for years from Bethesda. If you pick up Daggerfall, I highly suggest "Daggerfall Unity", which replaces the engine to make it more modern.
