Related, the original Starcraft was also made 100% free, Broodwar and multiplayer included.

The latest expansion for XCOM 2:War of the Chosen, the "Tactical Legacy Pack" just came out, and is currently free for those who already have WotC, but if their PR is to be believed, it will not stay free forever.

(WotC itself has been given a bit of a discount, if you have XCOM 2 and had been waiting on a sale for the DLC).

Zombie Army Trilogy is available from Games Sessions for free, provided you download it through their installer and play it for 5 minutes (not Steam linkable).

As far as I can tell, it's a third person stealth/action shooter and the offer is available from now until 14 Nov 18.

There's also a code (REVANSFATE) for two free DLC for The Old Republic players, redeemable between 01 Nov 18 and 02 Nov 18. Further details available on their website.

Destiny 2 is free on Battle.net if you claim it within the next two weeks.

For a game about as different as possible from Destiny 2, Deltarune Chapter 1, the followup to Undertale, is also free.

This is looking to be a good time for free stuff.

I have a -33% off Steam coupon for Divinity Original Sin 2, valid until 19 November 18. You'll need to own another game from Larian Games to use it (pretty much anything with Divinity in the title) and be able to jump through whatever hoops Steam currently has on trading.

Epic games started their own store and promise to hand out one free game every 2 weeks on it through 2019, starting with Subnautica from 14 to 27 of December followed by Super Meatboy from 28 December to 10 January.

As far as I know, it is a Steam competitor, so you get the game for free, just like in similar Steam promotions. Fairly standard way to break into a market.

I did check it out, but the website is too god-awful to use, even with the allure of free games. Still, since deuterio12 didn't link it, you can find the place here.

I'd like to filter games that are RPGs. I'd like to see them by date of release. I'd like to see which games work on mac. I'd like the games in a list that shows, say, 20 a time in the screen rather than 3. I'd like a description of the game, at least.

I can do none of those things, that I can see. Instead, I'm forced to scroll through massive pictures of games that tells me nothing about the game unless I already know what the game is. It's aggressively non-functional - i.e. not only does it not do any of the above, it has been carefully designed to ensure it does none of the above.

I mean, I'm pretty sure it only has 4-6 games on it right now. So not really much to filter currently.
edit: looks like 17, counting upcoming stuff. So it may just be that filters will come later when there are more things to actually filter.

So, Subnautica is now officially free on the Epic launcher for the next two weeks. However, there's one thing that is worthy of mention...

On that store purchase screen... no, it doesn't ask for CC info since it is free, but that big huge paragraph with a check-box? That's an opt OUT to be spammed by Epic, not an opt IN. So if you don't want to be spammed, you need to check that box.

Also, once installed through the launcher, you can run it independently via the executable, so launcher is not mandatory for play post-install. I would assume, however, that it would be needed for updates.

I just got a promotional email from Humble Bundle saying that LEGO: Lord of the Rings is free. I have not verified how accurate this is, nor how many strings come attached, but I'd guess signing up to their newsletter might be the extent of it, given prior similar promotions.
