Re: The Complex of Doom (IC) Thread 2
"For whether one of them is deadly, the question is how paranoid the people who built this were about enemies. If there's a trap here, there's no way to know which one; if it was solely designed for use, then I suspect all of the runes will take us to places someone might want to go, anyway."

Re: The Complex of Doom (IC) Thread 2
Kricen nods as he finishes his bloody notes. He heals himself then casts False Life. "Yes, let's keep moving. Hope you are all healed up." He frowns as he notices the magic summoning the undead that got them through the fight have already returned to whatever dark home they came from. He steps on the teleport pad and once all are on he activates the flame symbol.

Re: The Complex of Doom (IC) Thread 2
The party activates the flame rune, and appears in a 30’x30’ room. A single short hall leads out of it to a well-lit room, which appears empty from what you can see.
There are four runes on the wall behind the teleport pad:
A circle with six lines (the room you were just in)
A hammer with a zig-zag mark on the head
A horizontal line with some vertical lines sticking out of it
A flame over a horizontal line

Twirling his polearm a bit as he looks at the short hall, the warrior-bard reaches over his back to pull his net down in his off-hand. Looking at the runes on the wall, comments on the new runes. "New destinations, it would seem. Where I come from there is a thing called the Five Nation Express for the lightning rail. There are links along its path that it takes you down.
This would seem to be something similar, but with teleportation." he comments as he scribbles some notes before following Matai.

Re: The Complex of Doom (IC) Thread 2
You detect no hidden doors – although you would not be able to detect where an ethereal creature passed through the walls, unless it left some sort of tracks behind.
The hallway leads to one end of a room, which extends away to your right. The room appears to be a natural cave, slightly ovoid in shape, and about 50’x30’x20’H. It is lit by several Continual Flame torches mounted halfway up the wall around the room. The floor has been smoothed, as has the ceiling. A large nest of shredded fabric occupies the far corner, but it appears to be empty.

Re: The Complex of Doom (IC) Thread 2
Coming through the portal Kricen adds to his notes written in the unused portions of the translation book, written in a secret code of his own. He catches up to the others in the next room. "Agreed. A magically lit nest doesn't seem right either. Something that moved in later? I'll take a look on the other side."
Kricen activates the amulet to send himself to the ethereal plane. He looks around, particularly at the nest. When done, he returns and reports what he saw.Spoiler: GamesKeston Tornok for GF's AoW

Re: The Complex of Doom (IC) Thread 2
Kricen returns to the material plane. As he reports his lack of new news, Gandalf is already gliding just inside the surface of the floor, walls, and ceiling searching for any other routes. "Any idea what calls that nest home? Stay here long enough we'll found out the hard way. Any ideas or try another teleport?" He uses his barely used longbow to softly poke around in the nest, trying to figure out what could call it home. Did the nest seem newer? Was there an depression showing how big the creature is? Was there just one? Anything hidden in the nest?

Re: The Complex of Doom (IC) Thread 2
Leaving the empty room behind, you teleport on to the zig-zag hammer room.
Arriving in a flash of blue light, you feel that the air around you is chilly and cold. A heavy iron door, covered in frost, appears to be the only exit from the room. The door is shut.

Re: The Complex of Doom (IC) Thread 2
It's not damagingly cold, but it is cold. The door has a handle with no visible lock or latch mechanism, but does seem to be held in the frame by something. Perhaps it's barred or locked from the far side.

"No need for something so drastic yet. Allow me." Kricen touches the wall next to the door, avoiding touching it himself. Gandolf the Ghostly Visage separates from his master and melds into the wall. It then observes what is on the other side of the door and whatever may be barring the door. It returns as it went and reports to the necromancer.

Re: The Complex of Doom (IC) Thread 2
The area beyond the door is a large room, perhaps 100x100 and 25’ high, covered in frost. There are several anvils, a selection of hammers, and racks of metal bars partly blocking Gandalf’s view of part of the room… like a smithy, but with no fire. He gets a glimpse of something large and bluish-white with a long tail moving on the far side of the room. Its long, hairless tail doesn’t look particularly humanoid, and ends in a small cluster of spikes.

Kricen informs the others. "Seems to be a forge, but no sign of fire. Frost based forging? There is a large creature with a long tail that ends in spikes on the other side of the room. I'll take a look using the amulet."
The necromancer disappears as he phases into the ethereal. He looks around the room the group is in then steps through the door, careful to keep the amulet active. If he is noticed he immediately returns to the group. Otherwise he pauses in the forge while ethereal to see the creature and the room then returns.Spoiler: GamesKeston Tornok for GF's AoW

Kricen walks through the door and peers around. He sees a large, bipedal creature with a hunched posture, powerful tail, and insectoid-face. Ethereal vision is monochromatic, but he’s able to recognize it as an Ice Devil, a powerful creature.

Re: The Complex of Doom (IC) Thread 2
Kricen instinctively freezes in place at the sight of the ice devil. He didn't think it could see him. He stood motionless, reactivating the amulet while studying the devil trying to see what it was up to. He had seen them mentioned in books but had never seen such a powerful creature in person. Once he got an impression of what it was doing (or that it might be coming to him) Kricen retreated through the door again, returning to the material plane.

Shim nods as he lowers his polearm after moving on to the pad, in case the creature appears before they can teleport out of this location.
