    Default [IC] AtS's Sunless Citadel - D&D 5e

Embers crackle in the hearth of the Driftwood Tavern as the sun sets, painting the horizon with the beautiful, deep reds and purples of a summer sunset. The last fleeting rays of daylight silhouette the Neverwinter skyline, while patrons clink their mugs in merriment in the common room.

A wizened old man clad in a simple brown cloak and hood sits at a table in the corner by the fireplace, beckoning to anyone who will pay him mind.

"Adventurers!" he says, his voice quiet but brimming with anticipation. "Heed my words, and hear my plea!"

"Rumor tells of a small town called Oakhurst, just a day or two's journey from here, blessed each summer by a wondrous fruit." With a quick gesture and a snap of his fingers, he produces a shimmering, semi-transparent image of an apple, floating just above his fingertips. "Each summer solstice marks a visit from a goblin shaman bearing a perfect, ruby-red apple. The apple is said to grant vigor, health, and life."

He motions the apple towards his face and pretends to take a bite. The image swirls into a cloud of sparkling dust around his face before dispersing into thin air.

"The villagers of Oakhurst are content to taste the fruit but once a year. But just imagine an orchard of such fruit? Decanters of juice and wine to grant health and life to all who drink?" He produces two gold coins from a pocket and rubs them together. "What I'm saying is, there's gold to be had, by those enterprising enough to take it. I need a band of worthy adventurers to escort me to Oakhurst, and brave the depths of the Sunless Citadel - the home of the goblin tribe - to reveal the secrets of the apple."

Five people stand, to answer the old man's call. The group is composed of two tieflings, a half-elf, a goliath, and a dwarf.

"You lot look like capable folks!" The old man sizes the group of motley adventurers up, strokes his beard, and smiles. "I must apologize, for I've been incredibly rude. You may call me Harlan Oster. You may have heard of me: wizard, entrepreneur, real-estate mogul, opportunist, businessman extraordinaire!" He arches his eyebrows upward, hoping for a response, or flicker of recognition in the eyes of the party before him. He waits just a second too long, and the silence starts to get awkward. "Ahem. Now, let's get down to brass tacks: I need sturdy adventurers to travel to Oakhurst. I know of the Sunless Citadel, but I couldn't tell you where it's located. When you get to Oakhurst, ask around, the villagers should be able to tell you more," he says, sliding his hands into the pockets of his robe thoughtfully. "I could try a Divination spell... but I can't be bothered to research boring spells like that!" He chuckles a little, then continues. "I'd like to travel with you to see the Citadel for myself... but I have affairs in Neverwinter that require my presence. Important affairs."

"Now, about your payment... how's 20gp each, up front, and 200gp each on your safe return here with two things: The apple itself, safe and intact, and information. Information about the location of the Sunless Citadel, the apple's origin, and how I can get MORE of them! If we're successful, I smell the start of a wonderful partnership. There's plenty more magic to found in this world... I'll always have more work for you, if you're willing. And still alive. I mentioned that a goblin shaman brings the apple each year, right? I don't expect they'll take too kindly to intruders."

"If you're all still interested, we'll meet outside the tavern, tomorrow, at sunrise. I'll see you all off," he says, his voice cheery and hopeful.

He produces a small bag of gold from the folds of his robe. "But here, take the up-front payment now, and go get yourself properly outfitted for travel. Oakhurst is about 2 days travel from here on foot, and while the Citadel is nearby, you might have to do some searching to find it. Make sure you're prepared." The bag jingles as he tosses it onto the table in front of him.

"If you have any further questions for me, I'll be here for about an hour longer. I've got other business contacts that should be arriving soon, but until they do, I'll be here." He sits back down at his table, leans back in his chair, and hefts his feet up onto the wooden tabletop. The tavern, which had quieted some while Harlan was speaking, resumes the noisy chatter as patrons return to their business. The barkeep glances over at the party, then at Harlan, snorts, and returns to his task of wiping down glasses.

Sarin leans against the table, feeling too out of place to take a chair, her dark hood overshadowing her face. She extends one hand out to snatch her share of the coin, sliding it into a pouch. A small part of her considers taking the up front money and running, but she forces it down with an effort. After all, 200GP for herself would be twice her old nest egg, and the prospect of future jobs on a similar scale is undeniably enticing. The rest of the table see her lean forward, revealing a hand of grey-ish skin, scabbed over in patches with dark metallic cankers.

Pausing, to look around the group, the tiefling takes stock of her future travelling companions. A dwarf with a faintly academic look, someone she might have tried to burgle in the past, but clearly tougher than he appears, since he signed on. A half-elf wearing all green, clearly some kind of woodsman (woodswoman, she mentally questions, unsure). A mountain of a man with tattoos on his face, clearly some kind of demi-human unknown to her. And Carmina, because this would be her kind of job, wouldn't it? Sarin leans back against the table, then slowly starts to speak, weighing her words carefully.

"So, I've met one of you before, but most of you are new to me. What do I call you all?"

    Carmina

First thought: this is one for the list. That attitude usually denotes a lack of care. That he's in real estate is also a 90% chance he's actively ruining someone's life. Regardless, he's talking waaay too long covering up some important details. The gold is good enough, especially if there's side opportunities, but these details need answering. Carmina takes a quick look at the assembled team. Muscle, acquisition, infiltration, the other two could probably guess their specialties, but that conversation will happen later... well soon, it'll be easy to draw the conversation that way.

Introductions are underway, so she has an hour anyway. The rogue signals towards the bartender intending a round.

"Carmina. This, second most charming tiefling in Neverwinter, and I have already met. You can say I'm a practitioner of the quiet arts."

    Adamas

Adamas looks around in interest, as much to his prospective employer as to his surroundings. He is sitting in his Sitting Blanket crosslegged, having pushed the chairs away for this purpose. That brings him more or less at the same height as the others.

What strange folk, these Lowlanders. Here they are, discussing a Work, and noone makes sure it will be fair. Like they don't care.

But Adamas would surely volunteer for this. He needs the money, and more importantly, he needs the experience. When he talks, his voice is as deep as one would expect from such a mountain.

"I am called Adamas, and WildWalker, and of the Choeinos-Antra. A fair and winning day to all. I will go in this Work. I have my axes to contribute."

Seeing that drinks have been ordered, he orders food for all. That seems fair.

Rurik sets the recently emptied mug that he had purchased before Harlan had made his speech down, and the few droplets running down his beard are quickly wiped away with the cuff of his shirt. He looks around at the others, noting the pair of tieflings that apparently would be accompanying them. He found it a bit difficult to distrust them, especially when one aptly described herself as a 'practicioner of the quiet arts'. However, it was unlikely that he had much of a choice in the matter, and would have to resign to simply keep a closer watch over his belongings.

He finally speaks up, "The name's Rurik. If you can't remember that, 'Hey Dwarf' will do in a pinch," he jests, folding his arms over his chest as he waits for the round of food and drinks to arrive. He gives a nod in greeting to Adamas, recognizing the goliath, and the corners of his lips turn up into a smile. "Oi, Adamas. Looks like I'll have the time to finish telling you the story from our last conversation, eh?"

The barkeep's eyes light up at Carmina's signal for a round of ale. "Surely, miss," he says while gathering an armful of mugs from below the counter. With a heave and a clatter, he loads the mugs onto a round wooden tray and proceeds to fill a large gallon flagon to the brim with frothy ale from the keg behind the bar. Upon hearing Adamas' query, he turns, and disappears into the back room for a moment. When he returns, he holds a basket filled with several small loaves of bread, some fine cheeses, and a few pears. He gathers the tray, flagon, and basket and makes his way toward the party's table.

    THUNK

He places the tray and flagon on the table, followed by the meal basket. Six mugs, and plenty of food. "The total comes to twenty-seven silver. You lot sharing a tab? And might any of you need lodging? Rooms're only ten silver a night!" he says, with a wink.

Harlan smiles, but refuses a drink if anyone offers him a mug. "Need to be sharp tonight, have some important affairs to attend to. Very important."

    Camilla

Camilla looked very.... out of place in a sort of subconscious way. It was clear she was not just another citygirl or town-raised bumpkin. She had a very, well... feline hint to her, which might have something to do with her Wood Elf heritage, or the fact she was raised by Moon Circle Druids.
Whatever it was, her very icey-blue hued hair vibrantly stood out once you placed enough focus on her.
she was fairly slim of build, not looking very strong in the physical sense.

She blew a loose strand of hair out of her face as that Old fella 'Harlan' chatted on about wanting this or that. She didn't really care what she wanted, since she had much more interest in this very odd-rumored fruit. If it was unfitting for this world, oh she'd do her best to destroy that false thing of nature. If it was a small miracle bit of fruit fitting to this world, she'd happily encourage it's chance to stay around.
She happily accepted the 20-gold upfront hiring payment, but didn't care as much for the whole 200-bonus payment for return of info on the fruit or even an actual specimen and such.

Camilla looked at Sarin as she spoke up and asked the others about what to call them. "I'm Camilla. Local Moon Circle Druid."

She looked at the innkeeper when asked about lodgings and shook her head. "Not for me, I'd rather sleep in the outskirts-woods, in a tree if need be. I don't like tavern rooms. No offense meant of course." She said and also waved off any offers for alcohol.

"No room for me," Sarin says politely, "I've got my own accomodation, at least for now." She does, however, move towards a seat at the table, retrieving a pear from the bowl. From some inner compartment of her robes she takes a small dagger, wipes it on the hem of her breeches, and begins to cut the pear.

Idly crunching on the fruit, she looks back around the group, conveniently failing to mention her own speciality. After all, there's no polite way to say that you impersonate others to steal their money. She takes another bite of the pear, then changes tack. "Have any of you been near Oakhurst before? I'm a city girl myself, so I won't be much help with wilderness navigation."

With all that out of the way, Carmina takes a big swig of ale before putting three gold onto the bartender's tray. "Well I brought the ale, and I'll be needing a room." Rounding not withstanding, Adamas seemed to offer the food. Luckily it's a swanky place. No perpetual stew and copper drinks. She knives off a chunk of cheese with her dagger before getting back to the business of something that's been gnawing at her about the job.

"So, master Oster, seems the townspeople may think they've got a good deal going on. They know in advance we're going to be poking at it? Neverwinter may not care what shape you take on a whole, but country folks love their pitchforks. And torches."

Waiting for a response, she sneakily slides one of the rejected mugs over towards her.

Rurik furrows his brow in thought as he reached for one of the loaves of bread and some cheese. Now that his goliath companion mentioned it, he couldn't really think of anything he knew about Harlan that the man hadn't already stated himself. Not that it was all too suprising, Rurik's daily life didn't really involve much mingling with wizards. Especially ones that seemed to be at a much higher station in life than he was currently. "The man's still sitting here, Adamas. If you want to know more about him, he'd be the better person to ask." However, as he pops a slice of bread with some cheese into his mouth, he ponders the other question posed. What had he heard about the Sunless Citadel? Surely something as large as a citadel didn't just vanish from local memory, and so Rurik ponders all the books he's studied and read in an attempt to recall anything that might be useful.

Harlan listens intently to Carmina’s query. “Ah, Carmina, was it?” The wizard’s striking blue eyes peer past his spectacles. “Astute observation. Oakhurst is a small village, lead by a man who lacks ambition. Vurnor Leng has no vision. He fails to see the potential that such a powerful source of magic represents, and instead squanders it, wasting all that knowledge and power, for what?” He makes a fist and slams it against the table with surprising force. “To give an old, dying man a few more years of life to cling to?”

Harlan takes a moment to regain his composure, breathing deep a couple times before continuing. “And more than that... he’s a coward. So close to the prize, yet he won’t make a move. He’s taken the fruit each year, but has barred the village of Oakhurst from investigating the Citadel further.”

“Most of the townspeople are sheepish rubes, and couldn’t survive a minute in the ruins below. So maybe Vurnor has actually done Oakhurst a service in his cowardice.” Harlan has taken to twirling his beard between two fingers thoughtfully. The flickering lights in the tavern common room illuminate his face, masked in a contemplative expression as he ponders from across the table. Outside the tavern, the sky is dark, the sun fully obscured below the horizon.

Harlan regards the adventurers before him for a while. “So, each of you must to be certain of your resolve. Expect resistance from Vurnor, should he discover your purpose.”

“But remember - Vurnor exhibits no real influence over the Citadel. He may bluster and huff and puff, but truly, he can do nothing to stop you. And gods know he would never set foot in the Citadel himself.” Harlan pulls out a knife of his own and shaves off a hunk of cheese to taste.

“So, knowing Vurnor’s disposition, you’ll need an ally in Oakhurst,” Harlan says in between bites of cheese. “On the eastern outskirts of town is a shrine of Pelor, facing the sunrise. The shrine is tended to by a gnome priestess, Corkie. She’s no friend to Vurnor and she owes me a favor or two. Tell her Harlan sent you, and I’m sure she will point you in the right direction.”

“Adamas, you’re not from around here so I’ll let you in on a little secret. I’m the best damn wi-” The wizard cuts himself off and his eyes dart toward the door. “Ah! Excuse me!” Harlan stands suddenly. “My associate has arrived! I apologize for the rudeness but I must be off, so I hope to see each of you back here tomorrow. Of course, only the brave need apply.” He chuckles darkly and winks, then stands up and briskly walks to greet a figure who has just entered the doorway of the Driftwood Tavern.

The man waiting for him is none other than the newly appointed headmaster of Neverwinter Academy, Tar’ron Bailtor, a tall, golden-haired elf with a haughty expression on his face. Harlon speaks with him for a second. The two seem to come to an agreement after moments of discussion, and Tar’ron turns and exits the Tavern. Harlan looks back and waves at the party quickly before spinning back around and following the elf. He has a spring in his step as he crosses the threshold out into the cool night air.

No one knows for sure what the Sunless Citadel once was, but legends hint that it served as the retreat of an ancient dragon cult.

Another tale describes the citadel as a once-great fortress that was blasted below the earth in a calamity, sent as punishment by the gods.

Delving the fortress depths won’t be a walk in the park. It’s the kind of place from which those foolish enough to venture below never return to tell any tales.

You’ve heard of a tree like this. Gulthias. You’ve never encountered one yourself, but you can remember clearly the way the elder shuddered as he described it. It’s a evil and twisted plant, that only grows in earth stained by tainted blood.

While the midsummer apple grants life, each winter solstice the tree bears a white apple, that steals it.

Ah the line. The lines lines lines to read between. She doesn't show any reaction during some of his outbursts while keeping the facade of rapt attention. With Harlan gone she swirls around her mug for a moment thinking. Kind of the understated pitch to begin with, implying that a little care would see a shakedown and a little lifting, but it seems reality is going to be a bit more into it. The need for a cover story as well. Perhaps they'll have been sent by the city with lives at stake.

Carmina leans back a bit, obviously the wheels in her head turning. After her return to reality, the rogue notices the cheese has been taking a beating and grabs some bread. With some time passing from consuming, she eventually turns to the assembled party and asks,

"I know some of you are planning to head off tonight, but what would you say to getting some planning out of the way with some drinks served in tiny glasses?"

With a sucking-ass-through-gritted-teeth-noise, Camilla was somewhat deliberating with herself if she should share the knowledge she had of the fruit. If it was the same type of hellspawn'd thing that she had heard stories of by the elder druids of her circle, then they all had no business trying to bring this thing back to civilization, much less spread it's availability. Summer Fruit giving life, Winter Fruit stealing it away.... it was a thrice-damned abomination disguised as a bounty of nature, what with it's way of growth had be described.

For now, Camilla held her tongue. There were way too many people here and she had yet to get to know the people she would travel to Oakhurst with.

Rurik waits for Harlan to leave before speaking his mind. "Well, someone's spent too much time in his fancy tower." He finishes chewing the bit of bread he had grabbed before and swallows before continuing with his thoughts, finally answering Adamas's other question. "If the village's leader is staying away from that place, he's got a good head on his shoulders, no matter what Harlan says. I can't think of any stories about the citadel that are pleasant or make it seem enticing. It may have been the bastion of a dragon-cult, it might have been sunken into the earth by the gods themselves as punishment for whatever was going on inside. It's usually those 'people foolish enough to enter never return' stories. And given how none of the stories I know of tell of what's inside, I'm inclined to think there's a bit o' truth to it."

At the invitation for more planning (and importantly, more alcohol), Rurik nods. "Aye, count me in. Buying some rations for the road can wait until morning."

Sarin finishes her pear with a few rapid bites, dropping the core back on the plate with a dull thunk. She watches Harlan and his "friend" leave together, then turns her attention back to the table. Carmina is speaking, and this tiefling considers the prospect of another round or few.

"Sure, if it's the last time I'm going to be in a real city for a while." A small part of her warns that spending her money on booze is not sustainable, but seriously, next time she's in town, she'll be rich, or she'll be dead. Sarin cuts herself a slab of bread, smearing the last of the cheese on it. "So, you," she says, gesturing at Camilla, "reckon you can take us there, and you," this time pointing at Rurik, "seem to know enough about the place. If that's the case, anyone have any good reason to visit Oakhurst?"

"Otherwise, I reckon we slip in, talk to this gnome Harlan mentioned, and try and avoid actually meeting any of the townsfolk. I mean, if they're country hicks like our boss said, they won't take kindly to some of us, anyhow. Seems simpler to avoid giving them anything that might raise there suspicions."

Adamas keeps eating until all the food is gone. In the meantime, he keeps an eye on the discussion.

"Making preparations and buying rations seems right to me. Perhaps we should know more of what each of us can do. But avoiding the town has its disadvantages, also. The people there would know best the trails, the roads and the events of the area. If we can learn these things without them getting suspicious, it would be best. But even if they do, at most they can avoid answering us. We have nothing to lose."

    Carmina

Having lost another gold to liquor at some point for the table, Carmina takes in what the rest of the group is saying. It isn't surprising that of all people Sarin decides on the overly-cautious route. However, the whole group seems to be lacking imagination.

"Seems to me the townsfolk know something even if they're cut out of the full story. That and we have a contact in town. We'll just need to be careful around the town at large. Say, maybe there's a kobold migration towards the citadel and the city's sent us to watch the roads. With the town wanting to maintain the way things are, that'll make us the good guys."

    The rogue pours a shot.

"And also remember that once we get to the citadel, everyone's going to have to be comfortable with wet-work. Goblin's will probably responds as well as anyone would, and I don't suspect a 'citadel' is small enough for us have the luck to stay unspotted the whole way."

Rurik nods when Carmina speaks again. "That's a much better plan, in my opinion. As glad as I am to have been able to shed a bit of light on ths citadel, knowing mythical hearsay that it's a dangerous place isn't enough information to found an expedition on. If there's goblins offering magical fruit every year, it's a safe bet there's more oddities happening nearby that the townsfolk keep to themselves. Just gotta be a mite more careful than showing up and demanding to know who knows what about the place."

    Camilla

Camilla had been fine with not being talked to. When they others wanted to, they could, otherwise she just kept silent, listened and kept to herself, so to speak. Not as in she was seated away from the rest, just that she was clearly not used to be around a lot of people like this, in 'civilized' surroundings.

"I see what you're thinking, but are the townsfolk really going to know anything that this "Corkie" ain't?" Sarin shrugs, looking across to Rurik and Carmina. "Not saying we should talk to no-one neither, just that we don't want to make waves, and if the shrine's on the outskirts, might as well just skip the boring part."

Sarin pours herself a shot and knocks it back, feeling the alcohol burn on the way down. "It's actually not the run in that's bothering me. I'm just thinking, if we steal the apple, then cut and run, the goblins'll probably send people after us, and get their friends in Oakhurst to do the same. Best if they don't know who we are, or what we look like. I mean, even if we tell them nothing, they probably don't get that many travellers on the road, if it's the tinpot farming village Harlan says it is. We'll stick out no matter what we look like."

Sarin looks around, noting who has contributed so far, and who has said nothing. "Copper for your thoughts, Camilla? It's your decision as much as it is ours."

    Camilla

Looking at Sarin, Camilla spoke out in a hushed tone. "If this is the same fruit as the one I've heard about before from some of the elder druids.... well... I'd rather not speak up about it here where the walls can have ears and eyes."
She clearly intended to speak about the subject.... just not here where just about anyone in Neverwinter would waltz on in and overhear what she says. You can call her paranoid, but she merely just thought that taking a few basic precautions.

With Camilla's portentous words darkening the mood, the basket of food picked clean, and the decision of how to handle things in Oakhurst at a bit of an impasse, the group agrees to part ways for the night. A good round of sleep and time to think might help the decision the following morning.

The group splits up. Camilla and Sarin are first to leave the tavern and disappear into the black night, off to wherever they might call home. Adamas also leaves, of course needing to duck his head low to exit through the tavern's lowfolk-sized doorway. His hulking frame is illuminated by the streetlamps as he makes his way toward some shops in the center of town. The barkeep is sad to see such generous patrons hang it up for the night, but he swallows his disappointment and calls down two halfling employees from upstairs to show those remaining to their rooms. "We've just finished preparing the rooms! We hope you find the lodging comfortable," they say as Carmina and Rurik climb the staircase to the second floor of the tavern.

The amenities are sparse, but clean and well-maintained. Each room is outfitted with a fairly-comfortable bed, a trunk for belongings at the foot, and a desk under the window in the north wall. Covering the wooden flooring is a surprisingly soft bearskin rug - clearly the staff does a great job cleaning and washing all the furnishings between each guest's stay. Sleep will come easy in such quiet, clean, and private surroundings.

    ---
    The Next Day

Soon after sunrise, the group assembles outside the Driftwood Tavern. Two guards by the city gate chuckle to themselves, watching the group of motley adventurers grow and gather around Harlan, who waits, leaning against the tavern's wall, for everyone to arrive. Once all five return, he stands up straight and takes a few steps toward the group. "Perfect! Now, I think I answered most of your questions last night, so I thought I'd just see you all off this morning. But of course, if you thought of something else to ask me, ask away!" Harlan pulls a handkerchief out of a breast pocket, blows his nose, then snaps his fingers and the freshly-soiled cloth becomes clean. He folds it back up and tucks it away, looking at the group expectantly, with an excited twinkle in his eye.

    Carmina

It's great when the budget affords a good bed. It may be a while, especially if the rest of the group ends up wanting to avoid the town completely. She doesn't know how Sarin does it. The problem is that it makes it tempting to not get up immediately after light hits the window. Luckily last night's semi-moderation didn't have too hard of a kick. Eventually, Carmina manages to grab some extra supplies and make it to the gate.

Oh right, the guards. Recent misunderstandings and all. The rogue makes sure to keep her face hidden, not knowing if they're supposed to be looking out for her. Carmina doesn't usually work near the gate for this reason, but one can never be too careful.

Although still recovering from last night's carousing, Carmina manages to make herself inconspicuous enough that the guards don't take any particular notice of her. They're more interested in watching Harlan's antics, gathering yet another group of unsuspecting adventurers to execute yet another hare-brained scheme. Luckily, reports of Carmina's most recent misdeed haven't been fully circulated about the entirety of the city watch's forces yet.

Sarin is at the gate on the dot, having drunk relatively little, suspecting that a hangover would be unwise. One of the perks of her 'abilities' is that this particular form is not wanted for anything, so she merely appears in her usual garb. Her little garret is securely locked up, safe from intrusions, at least from intrusions by people without lock-picking skills, and her worldly goods tucked into a pouch and a pack.

Slipping through the crowd, Sarin saunters up to Carmina, affecting something of a stagger. The sway of her motion, which to the careless observer would suggest someone regretting last night's overindulgence, brings her mouth close to the other Tiefling's ear. Dropping her voice to a casual whisper, almost undetectable by anyone nearby, Sarin asks the question on her mind.

"Hey, are yew gon'a 'ave trouble wiv da blue jackets? Know what I mean?"

    Camilla

Camilla had spend most of last evening prepping to make a healing potion and had let it simmer through the night while she slept up in a tree outside the city limits. She had slept like that many times before so it was no hassle to do so again.
Upon waking up the potion had also finished, so it got cork'd and placed into her backpack before she headed off over towards the city gates, waiting for the others to arrive as well, giving a raised hand in greeting once she saw each of them.

I would have thought that living and working in Neverwinter, Rurik would have his own "dwelling" to return to. Either way, it doesn't effect what he'll be doing, just where he'll be doing it from, so I'll leave it vague.

Rurik wakes with a slight groan as he tilts his head, waiting for a satisfying pop. He wipes the last bits of sleep from his eyes, and takes a deep breath. He had spent a little while the previous evening drinking to his heart's content; being a dwarf allowed him to keep drinking when others were already under the table, and yet he had turned in relatively early in order to be able to wake up on time. After a quick bath and a fresh change of clothes, he makes sure everything is in order and that his equipment is gathered before heading towards the market to grab some extra rations for the road before going to meet the other's at the city gates.

With his trusted warhammer secured on his hip and his pack resting on the straps on his shoulders, Rurik appears ready for the road. Underneath his travelling clothes, the chain shirt occasionally rustles as he moves, though only to the finest hearing. Seeing and hearing Harlan reminds him that the man seemed a bit too excited to send them on their way. However, his curiosity had been sated the previous evening, so he shakes his head and starts looking towards the road. "I think we've got what we need."
