Default How do you do it -Graphics !?

Ok, I give up. How do you do it? Whenever I see 5e homebrew it is always really good in terms of design and graphics. How do you do it? Are there templates and fonts out there? Or am I just old, and this is how casually good millennials and further on are with graphics these day?

I'm particularly interested in how you get those picture borders for graphics inserts.

http://gmbinder.com/ automatically formats for you if you insert the relevant markdown, and has templates and a tutorial which make learning and using markdown easy (it also updates in real-time, so you can tell whether you've got it right or not as you're writing). Some people use Homebrewery, but GMbinder has the advantage that it actually shows up properly on all browsers, while Homebrewery messes up on any browser that isn't called "Google Chrome".

I make use of GMBinder myself and it is absurdly useful for making clean, professional-looking content with ease. That said, I do wonder when I see others displaying their creations with pretty pictures that have that lovely paintbrush-y border texture to them, if there is some method of procedurally creating such images or if folks are just using their own image editing programs to create customized transparent border textures. I believe thatís what the OP is interested in as well.

There is a method, but for those who are untalented, lack photoshop, or, like me, both, there's this dandy Imgur album.

I'm quite unfamiliar with the graphics aspect of homebrew (which, afaik, is just where you come up with items/monsters/spells/etc that are not officially printed), so forgive any ignorance I might display... but what on earth are those sheets? As I was scrolling through them it felt like I was taking a Rorschach test, and spent a few minutes wondering if I saw a monstrous bat or a cute bunny devouring a chair...
Just remember... if the world didn't suck, we'd all fall off.

I believe all of those expertly formatted classes you are finding are built on a site called Homebrewery. Using it you can create some very authentic looking documents. It is free and actually surprisingly easy to use. The only downside is that, as Jormengard has previously stated, it only works for google chrome.

Essentially, you overlay them on top of images, to make them look as though they are some sort of watercolor painting, in a way.

Here's a picture that uses one of the sheets, and here is the same picture without.

Thank you all! That really does clear up a lot of what I was wondering a bout. It'll be difficul to use my own backgrounds with the sheets, but I may be able to fix that in GIMP or photoshop.
