The original core Pa'anuri were naked/not expecting to fight mass teraport-based weapons (presumably not expecting the wormgate copy-network to be suborned to that purpose.) The new fight is bringing in.. well, they call them warships, but considering how they're actually being used think of it as armor? Like the difference between smacking down a squad of Toughs carrying sidearms and in their uniforms only, versus trying to fight them when they're geared for heavy combat in .. well, any of the various editions of power armor + heavy support they've had.

Given that schlock is "wearing a pair of spaceships" built for panuri hunting, I wouldnt be suprised if there was teragun mk 6 effects after every port.

The author does seem to bounce between telling-not-showing, and showing something without sufficent explanation. It's hard to strike the correct balance without the omniscient narrator.

And the narrator seems to be distracted by an odd obsession with helmets.

Yes, I'd like more that please. A lot more. Not a strip that literally begins and ends with 'ventura report' and nothing meaningful being conveyed in between. This was pure filler cut back to the 'marooned' crew in Andromeda. Even assuming the 'one airlock' is some sort of chekhov's gun to fired later, it's unnecessary. The scrapyard is literally completely undefined and can have whatever features it needs when it needs them.

I'd be more sympathetic if it wasnt a daily comic. If you pretend it's a weekly comic, catching up every sunday, the filler is less fillery, and it still "updates" as often as otherr comics do.

That does raise the question though. Cindy should be right. Even if Schlock is a mutated storage device, he was designed for a different system completely and shouldn't be any more compatible with it than Cindy. Does this mean the Pa'anuuri and the Bradicore share roots?

He may not be any more compatible out of the box, but he's infinitely more adaptable than a lobotomized quasi-AI. The real Cindy should, naturally, be even better, but she's not an option at the moment.

Cindy was never designed to migrate operating systems- that was Endy's specialty. Which is why the adapter was designed with Endy in mind. Remember, Cindy is still the multi-hundred-year-old Celshul gunship AI Bristlecone, physically moved to Cindercone and now Cynthetic Certianty because they had compatible ports.

Schlocks adaptability IS similar to Endys- he's taken time to adapt to new perepherals, like his armor and later the fragsuit, but that time has always been gag-length.

Back on the topic of filler strips, though, there are some plot-relevant threads that really need the sunday format to fit the plot and the requisite joke in. since these plot points are coming fast and steady now, the author is having to introduce filler to get the longer plot points to line up with the sunday strips.

In this sunday, for instance, schlock raised the possibility of being installed in the superweapon, Tagon Sr overheard it and deduced the existance of Cindy Jr, and the possibility has been raised that Cindy Jr is more than she was when the overlay was downloaded to schlock's fragsuit. And it only needed one joke.

First, after this long "extended holiday" of mine, how are we still on the same thread and not moved on?

Second: Why would he be expecting Schlock to succeed? Other than that Schlock's thinking is so different from anything else that he cannot be predicted, he has a history of pulling amazing successes out of everything, and if he can't eat it he manages to befriend it somehow?

As already discussed in this thread Schlock's species evolved from ancient data storage technology and most, if not all, of an Amorphs abilities are because of this. This might allow him to plug into the ship the same way the Dronuri do.

Which is not to say it isn't ridiculous that this one computer-based thingie would automatically allow you to hack other computer-based thingie, but at least there is sci fi precedence.

AK-tually... all the humans were unknowingly training on alien hardware, Since all computer tech was derived from the roswell crash in that setting. So really, it's no worse than an Apple hacker hacking Linux.

Also to note that Schlock "plugs in" to his armor and even his eyes. (His eyes are grown on trees.) Schlock actually should have a good chance to interface with the ship.

That is almost exactly what I said. Because they modelled their computer chips on crashed alien computer tech, they somehow can hack it.

"Here we come Schlocknuri" is also a decent thread title.

    Also:
    "Done Talking About Helmets"
'Probably Code for "Schlock Got Bored"'
"We're Fine Now, how are you"
    "Mars is a real weapon"
"He Broke up with you via teraport"
"I don't need to be useful to be in charge"
    "Scrapyard of Extemporaneous Assembly"
"Maybe a few. Maybe a Million"

Any other from further back that people want to point out? This thread is almost obsolete.

Dang. There goes another good thread title.

Going by the narrator's comments, the dronuri are the backup pa'anuri. So we know how that system works now.
