Engraver Class

So, I had wanted to create a full caster that must pre-select the spells for their spell slots and thus doesn't have much versatility but makes up for it by being able to enhance their spells in other ways, and by having a truly massive spell list to choose from. I tried a couple of ways of achieving this thematically before I realized that a rune-caster was essentially a perfect excuse for the mechanic I wanted.

So, without further ado, I present the Engraver, a new class for 5E.

Any feedback on balance, flavour or anything else would be appreciated. Additionally, if you have a good source of Creative Commons photos that would be relevant, that'd be wonderful. Thanks!

D6 hit die. Is fragile.

Give all simple weapons. No reason not to.

Maybe add to the skill list a little? Four skills is not much.

I don't like the Engraving Bonus. Pick a mental stat-don't use two.

Overall, I'm not going to look too deeply into every single engravement, because here's the thing:

It is VERY finicky, and excessively complicated.

Now, the IDEA is freaking awesome! I love it! The mechanics you've made... Not as much.

So, to try to help you refine it into something more palatable to 5E, let me ask you this:

What is this class supposed to do? Both on and off the battlefield. And how can you achieve these effects in a clean, simple manner?
