Shauna grimaces as her shield blocks the incoming blow. "Treacherous fiend! ...Have at you!"

She takes the opportunity from Luna's distraction to raise the holy blade over her head and pierce the vulture right through one of its wings.

She grabs the beast and pins it to the ground as her sword connects, not giving it time to squirm away. She pulls her blade out and then raises it over her head in both hands and stabs the vulture through the heart, killing it.

The last fiendish vulture dies. The bodies they were scavenging were civilians, who from the look of it were slain by demonic claws, but their state is not pretty.

The group makes their way to Irabeth's and Anevia's home, in the Southern part of the Gate District, at the eastern side of the city. A small house among many, in an area spared the worst of destruction and aftermath. A small yard with a few windows facing there, and a closed door. The group has the key to the door.

Shauna smiles as she approaches the house. This would be a safe haven that would permit for them to give Anevia some peace of mind. She was eager to help her friend recover whatever she could.

"Let's go right in!" she exclaims chipperly, producing the key.

[Frosty]

"Wait...should we see if there's anyone inside first? If cultists know of this place, they may have set some sort of trap in case Irabeth or Anevia returns?"

She thinks for a moment. "I could pretend to be a cultist, using the scale..."

[Kish]

"That seems kind of paranoid," Hesper says. "And what happens if someone sees you in that disguise and it's not a cultist?"

"Okay, we can listen at the door to see if there's anyone inside?" Shauna offers. She kneels down next to the door to listen.

Windows looking into the yard offer a view inside. There's a cooking place and a dinner table. Two doors open into other rooms. The inside looks homely enough, a strange contrast to the disaster-torn city.

Skerak enters into a small living room. There is nothing out of the ordinary here. For about ten seconds, after which a glowing beetle appears out of a crackling rift behind Skerak, mandibles snapping at him

Hesper briefly looks like Shauna's words are causing her a headache, but she shakes it off and looks around for a summoner.

Luna is on the lookout for anyone hiding or maybe invisible. "Whomever you are...unless you're a cultist, we aren't your enemy! We can keep you safe if you come out..."

There is no response, until another fiendish beetle claws its way to the material plane. It bites Luna, looking for an exposed part of her body. The summoner must be nearby, but they are nowhere to be seen. Invisibility or concealing illusion seem like possible reasons.
