Irabeth chips in on the conversation.
"The Wardstone network should function without the one in Kenabres, though it might be slightly weakened. The Wardstone here had already been cracked in a previous attack twenty years ago. They need something more, and we need to make sure the Wardstone isn't there for the demons to corrupt. For that effort, I'll add my strength to yours for this assault."

Suitably prepared, the nine leave Defender's Heart. Four heroes, alongside the acting commander of Eagle Watch, and four cloaked champions of Neathholm leave into the dawn air, striding to the heart of the invasion that had brought destruction to Kenabres. Following them, other soldiers, guards and templars fan out into small groups, scattering throughout the city. The fires have largely abated, but up ahead, plumes of smoke still rise. They enter Old Kenabres without issue and retrieve the cache Aravashinal mentioned.

"Well, I'm ready to get the Gray Garrison. I think this Chime of Opening will come in useful. Lann, do you prefer to fight on the front lines, or from the back?"

"General...I will do my best to stand as Your soldier, and bring these vile beasts to their knees with Your power," Shauna vows silently, gripping her sword as she walks between Irabeth and Skerak. "Have we heard anything from Her Majesty about all this?"

"As an archer I am more comfortable, lady Luna" Lann says. The other mongrelmen say the same, though there is some enthusiasm to truly take the fight to the enemy. They remember that these same false Templars tempted their kin to abandon the right path. And the heroes that helped them find their way again.

A large stretch of buckled ground and rubble stretches before the Gray Garrison, an aptly named structure that squats across from the open ground that once stood before the Cathedral of Saint Clydwell. That cathedral is no more - nothing remains but a towering mound of rubble and a deep, jagged rift in the ground.

The building itself is squat, built of gray stone, with no windows to speak of. The ruins of the cathedral provide cover for the initial approach, and a few other outlying buildings provide spotty cover up until about 40 feet from the doors. Only one way in or out of the building exists, and this is guarded by two hideously obese and rather undressed men, stubby legs pointing out from rolls of skin.

Shauna grimaces in disgust. "Who are you? Please, stand aside. We have matters to attend to inside. We will not hesitate to use force."

One lets out a belly laugh that sets his fat rolls jiggling. "Why, I am the mayor of Kenabres" he says. The other chortles at that. "Come closer, we'll get you sorted out."

And it is unmistakable once he says it, the features he wears are those of the mayor of Kenabres, though filtered through gaining about 200 pounds of excess fat on him since Armasse.

Luna smirks as Shauna moves forward. "What, just one night of frolicking naked with a group of men, and now you're so eager to meet up with random naked strangers? I mean, if obese is your thing...you do you." she jokes.

Moving forward as well, she figures there's no harm in trying deception. Showing the unholy symbol of Baphomet openly, she says, "You'll have to forgive my idiot subordinate. But, she is correct in that we do have business in there. We are part of Hosilla's group that went to co-opted the Mongrelfolk, and now we've finished taken care of the 3 safe houses. Gotten rid of the evidence, etc. We also have an important item we want to safeguard here while waiting to head back to Drezen. We recovered Yaniel's sword from the museum! I think whomever is in charge will want to see it, and also make sure that it's safe."

If Shauna allows, Luna takes the golden blade to show the two obese men (from a distance).

Shauna pauses as Luna reaches for her sword. She frowns, but plays the role of a subordinate and pulls it off her hip, stepping back and bowing to the woman as she hands it to her.

"The blade glows" the mayor says.
"Only for the righteous" the other one says.

Both retrieve scythes from the rubble, fighting variety, rather than the harvesting one.

Guys, don't forget to take actions for your loyal mongrelfolk allies. And to give them names and quirky personalities so as to feel a worse sting if/when they die.

Skerak's blast strikes the corpulent mayor and caves his face in. A blow that would spell the end for any mortal seems to have little effect, but a step later the obese monster staggers as it feels the injury. Dark glow emanates from his hands and spreads out, touching Skerak, Luna and himself. It fills him with energy but inflicts harm on the living. The other repeats this, healing his ally while targeting both Paladins.

"For Kenabres! For Anevia!" Irabeth shouts, charging the uninjured foe, seeking to engage him and let everyone gang up on the one closest to death's door.

The tendrils of negative energy rush towards Luna and her allies, but they seem to dissipate into nothingness before they touched the immodest cleric. Luna rushes right behind Shauna, and tries to flank the grotesquely-fat mayor. "Your time is over! Baphomet ill-needs a bumbling servant such as yourself." As she says the word 'baphomet' of course a quiet 'thwack' can be heard from her pack. The cleric brings her cold-iron mace to bear on the enemy.

Lann obeys Luna, his arrows striking the target well and good, bus barely pierces the hide of the monster. Hesper also takes a shot, but can't make a hit on the crowded foe.

The mayor, struck again and again, suddenly arches his back, his jaws widening as a monstrous many-tailed worm bursts out. The flesh collapses into a boneless heap as the fiend reveals its true form. A tangled mass of flesh, it rears up and attempts to bite Shauna

Irabeth and her foe both strike one another, but the paladin catches the blow on her shield while her sword runs the foe through. It doesn't seem to hurt it much, which may be explained by the nature of the fiend inhabiting it.
