Wrath of the Righteous - Worldwound Incursion [IC]

Shauna follows Irabeth and begins climbing after the enemy leader.

Luna, for her part, walks through the ranks of her soldiers, seeing how they feel, and using her way with words to keep them reassured. "Remember the signal, men. My words will sound panicked, but just follow the plan, and Irabeth's anvil to our hammer will crush the enemy!"

Then, she leads her men into position.

Luna's troops follow her, while Irabeth's take their positions. Luna approaches almost to within sight of the enemy. The canyon mouth has been fortified with a low wall, watched over by a host of tieflings, and Luna can see some Dretches standing as unsleeping sentries.So long as attackers stay mounted, they can attack those atop the wall, butcrossing it on horseback would be impossible without breaching it. Luna has a bodyguard of her frequent nightly companions formed around her. The crusaders are tense, waiting for the signal.

The climb takes a while, but the slope is not too difficult to manage. The vista from the top is bleak, somewhat drab even in the sunlight. Far in the distance, the rift of the Worldwound is visible as a discoloured portion of the sky above the old capital. Despite her injury, Emilie seems to be able to make the climb pretty easily. Onve at the top, Rosa, Skerak, Shauna, Aron and Emilie make their way past the camp. Peering over the lip of the canyon, they can see scores of tents, rather haphazard collection, as well as altars, cooking pits, but their attention is drawn to the large tent of magenta and black at the far end. A few dretches stand guard before it.

Emilie chants a bit to herself, pointing a finger at each of the heroes. Shewhispers quietly, the words seeming to be whispered right into everyone's ear.
"When you get down, whisper 'ready' and I'll send the signal. Then wait until the alarm is sounded, or twenty heartbeats, and go for the leader" she whispers. "T-that was how Aravashinal instructed me to say."

The climb down is steeper at the top, and using rope might be wise. Aron has brought some, and sets it up with pitons. His nerves seem a bit better.

The top is distant enough that verbal components aren't heard, so if you want to use any spells, it's best to do it there or after the combat starts

Rosa follows the others on their climb down. Rosa licks her lips in anticipation of all the enemies she will bite and claw.

The group climbs down, and takes position lurking behind the command tent as they hear Emilie whisper to their ear "The signal is sent." They can't see it from the valley.

The signal was sent.

Luna, and the rest of the assembled soldiers see a flash of blue light.
"That's it" one of the crusaders says. A pale-skinned man called Aardic, and a self-appointed bodyguard says.
"That's the signal" Lann agrees, his mismatched face hidden by a hood, a bow in hand. "Give the order, lady Luna"
"I will lead the charge!" a tanned crusader called Uriel says. "I will see that our fair commander is unharmed. As will other damsels!" he adds, looking at Luna's old friend, Lily, taking a risk joining the vanguard where her healing talents would be best used. The gorgeous tiefling affects a blush.
"Oh, please. We don't need your protection!" a female crusader calls out. One that Luna has seen give her some glares about unprofessional conduct, and who hasn't spoken to the commander directly at all.

At Luna's signal, the mounted force rides out into view of the defenders.

Horns and drums sounded throughout the camp, the noise certainly enough to hide the approach of the intruders. Aron is at the front, crouching, moving from rock to crevice. Somewhat to the side, and by the elevated position of the leader's tent, they can see a horde of tieflings assemble, as lumbering dretches move at deceptive speed to take the low rampart that forms the canyon's defense. The tieflings swarm out ahead.

As they make their approach, the cavalry force sees the ramparts topped by a host of demons, as a host of tieflings forms up outside the wall. Unlike before, these ones are arrayed better, and carry crossbows mixed in. They let loose some bolts that clang against the armored crusaders

At the command tent, the flaps are thrown open, and the commander emerges. A tall figure with medium-grey skin, shirtless and with a body that makes most men uncomfortably jealous and women go weak at knees, his brow crowned by horns and dark wings spreading from his back, he takes a moment to survey the situation. Two dretches serving as guardians of his tent. The commander flexes his legs and spreads his wings, like a racer ready to sprint. The time to strike was now!

Luna's soldier already know the drill, and longbows are fired at the enemy tiefling army, and then the army immediately starts to tail and "run".

"Whoa! Looks like we're too far forward! Everyone, RETREAT!"

The signal is given, and the bait set.
