"It's a safe bet we'll need to stop everything down here."
How impressively and unnecessarily far down this is. Glowing soapstone - luckily her shoes are completely dry - but just how big is this place?
"Main door first?" Anchor suggests, striding across the chamber to try to open the southern double-doors.
Benedict seems pretty laid back about all this. Should that be worrisome?

Re: Seaside 4: Where Every Week Is Shark Week
[Marlick Bay]
Sekhmet peers out of the church and is met with a horrid sight.
Things are walking out of the ocean.
Horrible, fishy things. Amalgamations of aquatic creatures with vaguely humanoid forms.
One of the them, the creature at the front of the column, towers over the rest. Like a cross between a horseshoe crab and an eel, it slithers and skitters across the beach toward the town. It has no head. Instead a concentric pair of stone rings hover where a head ought to be, whirling and grinding against each other. Two more rings hover behind it, each bearing shifting shapes reminiscent of wings. She shouldn't be able to see it from here, but Sekhmet can immediately tell that one of the Relic's is set into the center of the monster's chest.
And in like manner, it knows that she too carries the Relics with her.
The main body of the pelagic nightmares begin shuffling toward the town while the ringed horror and three of its minions begin moving toward the chapel.
It looks like our heroes will have company soon.
Meanwhile, down in the depths, a closet is opened by Zoph! Inside are a bunch of blue robes.
Cultist robes, probably.
Maybe they could be used for disguises?
Then the double doors are opened-
-where upon several horrible fish people leap through the threshold to attack our heroes! They're all still recognizably human, just with awful marine additions grafted on in a chaotic jumble. One, who has a face like a mass of sponge crawling with crabs and shrimp, makes a cutting motion with one crab-leg covered hand toward Anchor. She may suddenly find a wound form as the space near her is violently sheered. The second, who seems more like a mass of coral slithering with moray eels than anything else, lashes out with a half dozen serpent-like mouths to bite onto Benedict and drag him closer to its jagged claws. The third, a mass of sand bound together with a writhing lattice of marine worms, makes a gesture at Zoph in a mid to cause his flesh to begin rapidly decaying.
Each of them has a large, golden ring embedded in their body somewhere, slowly rotating in stops and starts like the hands on a clock.Warning! Random Encounter™ detected!

There's so many of them! Sekhmet can't help the people down in the town and stop the lead monster (which she assumes is Neshiyahel). She needs more time!
Time, of course! Sekhmet holds out the artifact of time and looks it over again. She can keep one of the relics within herself and gain greater access to its power. With trepidation, she reaches out to the time relic and focuses on it, trying to take it into herself. Hopefully, she isn't making a huge mistake.Awesome avatar (Kothar, paladin of Tlacua) by Linkele!

Yes!
Jackpot!
Blue robes.
Honestly, Zophiel was hoping for a doorway that led to the same room, just on the side. Like, you know those grand entrance halls? Where the double doors would be for official business but everyone else would just use the others.
Unfortunately, Zophiel doesn't have enough time to decide what to do with them. They have guests.
Also quite unfortunately, the soapstone has left his boots slick so he can't just run over there.
Also also unfortunately, his flesh is now decaying. However, there is a fortunately there: Zophiel isn't pregnant so it's not really all that bad, right? Obviously, there's no immediately relevant secondary effects to destroying the flesh of somebody whose body is one-quarter of a seal, especially after a long day where the magical part of the seal has been slowly altered thanks to injury and intentional changes.
Remember how the surface of his skin above the arteries has been dyed black, ever since this morning? This will probably be relevant later, once his flesh decays enough.
Anyway, he can't run over there out of fear of slipping, so he does all he can at the moment: he braces himself against the doorframe, and hurls the spear at the sand-plus-marine-worms. He follows up by grabbing the blue robes and tossing them on the floor...for some reason. And then, drawing the crossbow so he can load it and fire a single bolt at...a random horrible fish person.
He can load it faster than the innkeeper, but not fast enough to use it repeatedly in this situation.Favorite sports:

Benedict draws his sword and adopts a fencing stance as the cultists rush him, slashing out with the sabre and dancing back. He's not a great swordsman; but fortunately for him, the individual who provided the bone of the sword's hilt was, and a faint overlay of a lithe and athletic woman appears overlapping Benedict's outline, moving slightly before he does as her reflexes and muscle memory are better than Benedict's. Unless they all recoil from the blade, or he severs all of the attacking maws, some will get through and bite his leather robes. They're thick and tough, but the enchantments laced into the cured human skin are primarily at protection from magical and ranged attacks. Some of the teeth have penetrated, and Benedict tries to twist his wrist and break free.Terrowin Avatar by HappyTurtle. Much thanks!

Jezebel is about to ask her questions of the Imp when the interruptions start. She stares at the warlocks warily, watching the talkative one closely as she starts getting measured. "It seems that no matter where I go, most Academicians are the same." She mutters, turning back to the Imp as she casts off what little rags she has left with her other hand. They'd been uncomfortable anyway. "What region does your master reside? Provide as many details as you are able to." She had an inkling, but she needed confirmation as it could be pure coincidence. "We'd better speed this up. Whatever they're doing, I could feel it from here," Laz warns, keeping her hands on her blade as she does her best to keep the bats and birds off her wingman (wingwoman? wingcat?)'s tail. It's weird; you'd think, even with her ghoulish immunity to exhaustion, that she'd start slowing or get worn down by the pecking, clawing, and scratching, but if anything she only seems to be picking up more speed and energy as she tanks hits from the demons. Gee, I sure hope there's no drastic and horrible physiological downside coming soon to make up for this apparent combat advantage.

Anchor goes with her inclination to jump back when horrible fish monsters burst through the door. The space just in front of her is cut; a few drops of blood now stain a cut in her shirt.
Now, try to not kill them, Benedict suggested?
Open spellbook, flip to 'you shouldn't be casting this', and there, a Sleeping spell.
She starts speaking the slippery magic words, and the dreamworld rises up to try to swallow sponge-face person. They should feel a few moments of tiredness and then hopefully fall asleep. And all the little crustaceans with them.
Anchor's shadow steps away from her and reaches for the shadow of the coral-encrusted eel-man, reaching through it to try to drain the strength and vitality out of that fish-monster, which would see it slowly weaken and eventually collapse under its own weight. Getting your shadow away to safety is recommended.

Re: Seaside 4: Where Every Week Is Shark Week
[Marlick Bay]
Sekhmet decides that sorcery is the best solution to this problem. Maybe she's right? We'll find out pretty quickly.
With a mere act of will, the Relic of Time vanishes and Sekhmet feels new vistas of possibility open up before her. It doesn't feel... powerful. Not really. Not like swelling magic at her fingertips. More like she's suddenly privy to aspects of reality that she simply wasn't aware of before. Connections between things. Things that respond to just the right instructions. Before wielding the Relic of time was like swinging a sledgehammer. Unsubtle, powerful, and destructive. And while it can still be those things, it can also be so much more.
Sekhmet needs more time.
And she finds it.
The world around her seems to slow to the barest crawl while time for her still passes normally.
There's a feeling of strain that comes with it. As if she's a spring under tension winding tighter with each moment of subjective time. It probably won't last that long.
Meanwhile!
Zoph hurls a spear at the marine worm thing! The weapon plunges into it, causing it to let loose an absolutely horrific, inhuman shriek. And then it bursts.
Wet sand and worms go flying everywhere.
Anyone who was near it might have sand and worms on them now. They're those nasty bristly worms, too. Might make you itchy.
There's also a crossbow bolt sticking out of the eel/coral person. It doesn't seem terribly pleased about this.
Benedict will find the eels to be unnaturally tough and rubbery, though hacking through them is still possible. Those double-jaws of the eels would be far more dangerous if not for the fact that he's wearing a pretty tough outfit all his own. The creature loses a few eels, but it seems persistent. Seeing that it's slithery advance isn't working so well, it instead conjures a roiling bolt of kinetic power and hurls it at the occultist. Should the projectile strike it will launch Benedict backwards violently.
Mister Sponge and his face-crabs rather unceremoniously falls asleep.

Sekhmet wasn't really sure what to expect from this, but is surprised by just how simple everything is. No mind-numbing vistas or maddening revelations, just a constant awareness of movement, of sliding forward through time. She feels herself slowing, instinctively, and yet to her mundane senses, it is everything else which slows. She walks forward, but to everyone else, she must appear to blur from one place to the next, becoming only really visible when she stops moving. She takes a deep breath, turns towards the path, and breaks into a run down the hill into town. She hasn't thought ahead at all. What will she do when she gets there? How will she stop those things from eating all the people? She's not that powerful! It's too late to turn back now though.Awesome avatar (Kothar, paladin of Tlacua) by Linkele!

Re: Seaside 4: Where Every Week Is Shark Week
[Marlick Bay]
It feels very strange.
Normally moving relatively fast like this should be distinctly unhealthy. Even air friction should be lethal. But where Sekhmet moves and touches?
The gravel grinds under her feet, kicked up by her sprint, only to freeze again once she's moved away. The air passes over her skin and through her hair normally.
It would seem whatever she interacts with enters her accelerated frame of reference, at least temporarily.
This probably means that if she tries attacking something it'll start moving quickly as well. Again, at least temporarily.
This is a powerful tool, but one that must be wielded carefully and thoughtfully.
As Sekhmet makes her way down the hill, that tension keeps building until it feels like it could break at any moment. The world around her begins getting... jittery. For lack of a better word. Like viewing something through a mirage rising off a road. It looks like what nausea feels like. With mere moments before the time-stop ends, Sekhmet has several large rock outcrops she could hide behind. The horror and its minions are still a fairly decent distance away. But in spite of that Sekhmet just covered a good five minutes worth of ground in the blink of an eye.Warning! Random Encounter™ detected!

Sekhmet drops down behind a rock, releasing her grip on the timeflow and catching her breath. It may look like she moved near instantaneously, but to her, she was running for five minutes. She doesn't expect much to have changed, but she still wants to check where that monster is now, and whether it's seen her yet. Hopefully she still has the element of surprise.Awesome avatar (Kothar, paladin of Tlacua) by Linkele!

The horror is quite a bit closer now. Sekhmet can make out... faces. Human faces. Just randomly stuck into the horror in random places. They don't look very happy at all.
As soon as Sekhmet snaps back into the normal time stream the horror turns in her general direction. As she can feel the Relic it has, so to it can sense hers. Not enough to judge an exact location, but enough to realize that she just moved a whole lot closer in a blink of an eye. It makes a gesture with one of its huge crab claws and its trio of minions lurch forward in Sekhmet's general direction.
Looks like it's going to try to flush you out, Sekhmet.
You might not want to let it do that.
Because chances are?
It wants your Relics just as much as you want its.
...hopefully that wasn't a human who decided to open themselves to the Relic's power like you did.
That would be bad.Warning! Random Encounter™ detected!

From her hiding place, Sekhmet resists the urge to vomit. That thing is even more disgusting and horrifying up close. Hopefully she's not going to end up like it because of the power she's now using. It knows she's here. She won't be able to hide from it, not if it can sense her the way she can sense it. She needs a new plan. Maybe she can distract it long enough for the others to finish up in the church? Re: Seaside 4: Where Every Week Is Shark Week

It does look pretty awful doesn't it?
Sekhmet slips into the accelerated frame of reference again, but this time around the tension on her timeline feels MUCH tighter.
Maybe her existence needs a bit more normal time to drop back to a ground state?
Either way, she won't be able to get as far as she did before running back up to the church. It does, however, put a pretty comfortable amount of space between herself and the horror.
And its awful minions.
Gods they're horrible.
And they're actively hunting for Sekhmet, too. There's a pretty good chance that they don't plan on doing anything very nice to her.
She'll have to job in normal time back up to the church and by the time she gets there her friends are nowhere to be seen. They must be down in the lower portions of the shrine. In the distance Sekhmet will be able to hear the sounds of combat. They must have gotten attacked down there. Hopefully she isn't too late.Warning! Random Encounter™ detected!

The jog up to the church gives Sekhmet a little time to plan ahead. If she lures the monsters to the church, she can get everyone else to help fight them while also keeping them away from the town. She doesn't want to go too fast away from them, then, so they can at least partly keep up with their shambling pace.Awesome avatar (Kothar, paladin of Tlacua) by Linkele!

Meanwhile!
The spear seems super-effective!
...
He's still too far away to just grab the spear and take care of the rest of them. He still needs to walk halfway across the room from the closet-door to the double doors. And his shoes are wet. And the floor's slippery when wet.
"If you need to, grab the spear!" he calls out to the two of them.
He finally reveals what his master plan was by tossing the robes on the ground, by...stepping on them and walking across them to dry his feet better.
And he reloads the crossbow at the same time. Getting ready for a second shot seems more useful than just standing there or slipping on the way there.

Geneva and Laz in Moonwell Mayhem
As the two are approaching the airship they can see one of the adventurers, an lizardman dressed in camoflague gear, waving to get their attention as the rest are attempting to fight off the now steady stream of black fiends that are gating onboard the ship. A total of three, with one still falling off the ship with the mad woman, have appeared and are slashing through everything with little the VIGIL members are doing capable of causing any lasting harm.
Magic grease doesn't seem to cause them to tumble with how they have magically teathered themselves to the ship an even a mighty fireball igniting the grease isn't doing as much as a scratch. Whacking their joints with magical weapons seems to be slowing them down but not much more and even doing that have cost two adventurers their lives.
The falcon have turned into a bear and is fighting the third fiend in the air while the mad woman in it's grip still laughs.
There is a single bat demon that's still near the skyship. It's much larger than the other bats and seems to have been feasting on it's own kind. Still chewing on large chunks of bat demon as it cirkles the ship.
There is a small group of bat demons that have retreated from the fight and are heading towards the moon well. Two raven demons are still following Geneva and Laz from a distance. They don't seem to want to engage them and are more focused on tailing them than anything else. Trying to simply dodge anything Geneva throws at them, including Laz.
The Catgirl Stands Alone
"Oh. Um." The soldier hesitates for a moment. "...it does have a autopilot feature though! You just need to go straight up, right?" He starts to count on his fingers. "Maybe five hundred kronx forward... yeah, that should work. Won't be able to dodge any incoming objects obviously but your friends are taking care of that, right? Just jump out of it once you get close enough to the ship and it will fly back on it's own. It's able to avoid larger, immobile, objects but that's it. On the plus side, it allows you to shoot while you're moving."
If there aren't any protests, the goblin will set up the micro-copter and enlarge it for her. Even at full size it still very much looks like a toy. "So are you okay with flying to that skyship of yours? I mean, you could try to steer it yourself but without experience I wouldn't recommend it. Especially since crashing it... well, our boss would persue legal actions and all that."
[Laughing Awen]
As Awen is about to be torn apart by the fiend a huge falcon suddenly dives in from above and the next moment there is a enormous mass of fur, teeth and claws digging into the fiend.
Suddenly Awen is let go as the construct has to use it's arms to defend itself. But it might be a moot point however as she is about to hit the water below. Hopefully she doesn't pass out.
Operation SeaSlug
These questions seems to be a bit beyond the young gnoll who seems to struggle a bit. "Um, we're the Servilla family. I'm Argus Servilla and my mom and dad are Millia and Servus Servilla. That means we're very important and have a lot of money." He nods as it seems the only way he can answer Titania's question.
Festival of Bloodlust
While the guards are proffesional or hardened enough to not give Jezebel any special attention the robe-clad gathering either look away or are left staring once she discards the rest of her clothes.
The gnoll with the tapemeasurement on the other hand is neither shy nor leering as she starts to measure up the rest of Jezebel's body. Having to sit on her tallest acolytes shoulders to be able to measure Jezebel's upper body. "completely unique form...", "fascinating...". She mutters as she continues.
"Uh, skyside. You guys should already know that so I can say that." The imp mumbles as it gives the gathered group of warlocks(?) a weary look. "The city is filled with us. It's basically-"
But as the imp is about to finish that sentences, the gnoll interrupts it yet again. "I've made my conclusion!" She declares while tossing the measurement tape over her shoulder right in the face of one of the leering humans. "Ow!"
There is a heavy sigh from the Anex.
"A demon like yourself should be able to manifest your own clothes and armor. You clearly just need to figure out how to do it." She declares as she nods sagely at Jezebel. For the first time able to see her eye to eye as she's still sitting on her acolytes shoulders. "Have you tried imagining some clothes for yourself? It might just work!"

Will looks between the gnoll and the demon.
That’s it? That’s the best he can do? He doesn’t seem that much younger than Will. He’s sure if he had been born a noble’s kid he could at least say what they’re important for. But he keeps that quiet. This is, in the end, TTN’s decision. But personally he feels like going off with other gnolls would be abandoning Sargera and the crew to whatever Lannereth’s demon steward is doing. Falling from that height - especially into water - is very dangerous, even if you are supernaturally tough. Her magic is disrupted, so she can't directly use anything that would stop her from getting hurt by the impact.
Fortunately, it let go of her, which is probably what saves her. This lets her unravel her hair from the construct and push away from it - to avoid getting grabbed again. Pushing away essentially slows her down a little and allows her body to right itself so her legs are what will hit the water first. The witch takes a breath and tucks her arms and covers her mouth and nose, and...
Normally, breaking your legs from impact against water is very painful. Feeling the water smash against your skin as your body is the cushion slowing you down against the water...it's not a pleasant feeling.
...which means Awen feels so much bliss as she sinks into the water that her mind goes blank for a moment. Once she regains her sense of where she is, she uses her arms to swim upwards as much as she can. Luckily, she's pretty used to holding her breath, so she doesn't really need her legs that much to swim upwards.
And, finally, now at the water, the demonic construct is close enough to its own shadow again for the hand-tendrils to return. Dozens of shadowy hands rise out of the darkness below it to grab the construct once again, and pull it down to the depths.Favorite sports:

Sekhmet decides to try letting the zombies keep up with her, which becomes totally unnecessary as soon as they spot her. The moment they see her they begin to run.
Seriously run.
Run as only a thing that has no business being able to move in the first place is able to run.
Suddenly this may seem like not such a great idea.
Meanwhile!
The coral eel is blasted with the kinetic bolt, stabbed with a sword, and then stabbed with a spear!
That last one is by far the most dramatic, causing it to burst asunder. With the remaining marine zombie passed out our heroes are-! Well. Still at somewhat of an impasse. Stepping over the unconscious zombie would be kind of awkward. Of course, they do in fact have a weapon that seems to destroy these monsters utterly. Should they make their way around their final foe, they'll soon find themselves in a new chamber. On the north and west walls stand tall bookshelves, loaded heavily with insidious looking volumes. To the west stands a heavy black curtain, billowing slightly from the breeze passing under it. On the southern wall stands another set of double doors.
Of course, our heroes might not actually head down into the next room. There's still quite a bit more of the room they're in now to explore.Last edited by Rebonack; 2020-03-03 at 12:59 AM.

This was definitely a bad idea. Those things are a lot faster than they look, and the timestream doesn't want Sekhmet messing with it right now. She's really not that good at fighting, so that's out of the question. She instead continues running, now at full (but still mundane) speed, drawing the artifact of entropy as she does so. When she reaches the top of the path, she points the artifact towards the lead zombie and fires off a bolt of entropic power. If she can pick them off before they reach the church, that would be good. It would buy her some time to prepare for their master.Awesome avatar (Kothar, paladin of Tlacua) by Linkele!

Meanwhile!
Zophiel, finally having dry feet, feels ready for the combat just as soon as it ends. "Good job," he tells the people there. He steps over and past the unconscious zombie creature.
Sadly, thanks to the time limit they appear to have, Zophiel doesn't have time to go through the bookshelves in the new chamber. It might be helpful to figure out what's going on and how to stop it, but Zophiel isn't confident in his ability to pick the correct book the first time. He's even too much in a hurry to take care of the blackness that's been spreading over his skin - but it's fine because it seems to have stopped for now.
Instead, he goes through the chamber towards the next set of double-doors...
...
Wait
That curtain probably has a hallway behind it. Hidden passages like that frequently have something important behind them. Instead of heading south to the next double-doors, he takes a pit-stop on the west side, to check out the curtains. Once he gets there, he pulls it aside to check what's causing the breeze.Favorite sports:

Benedict wipes his sword on the robes Zophiel trampled and sheathes it, grabbing a spare mutant moray head if there's one around and putting it in a pocket. He also takes out a plain bronze tumi knife, which he'll use to try and remove the golden ring from its body. Pretty sure the other two were destroyed when their hosts were, but Benedict thinks they're interesting. Benedict examines the bookshelves, but... He wants all of them. And he doesn't have time now for all of them. So he leaves them and goes to follow Zophiel.Terrowin Avatar by HappyTurtle. Much thanks!

Anchor is perfectly willing to step over the sleeping fishman.
Although taking them alive doesn't seem to have gone over, in general, judging by the explosion. Missed the chance for that.
She follows Zophiel into the next chamber, weird spear in hand.
There shouldn't be a breeze down this deep.
She gets ready to stab anything that moves behind the curtain. Or anything that looks too bad.

Operation Seaslug
TTN just nods along for a moment with the Gnoll's words before shaking her head. "Those names mean nothing to me." She admits before looking at Will and tilting her head to the side towards the direction they'd last seen the lich. "Maybe we can convince her to send us back to Sargera and the others if we can get whatever's rattling in her head to connect for a few moments."
Festival of Bloodlust
"I have other matters on my mind than my attire, Warlock." Jezebel says before jerking her hand and shattering the chain that holds the imp bound. "Go back to your Mistress. You have said enough. Linger, and I won't bother to restrain myself any longer. Take the camera with you." She threatens, turning towards the Anex only if the Imp vanishes from her senses. "I would suggest your warlocks venture out and begin purging your quarters and city of Imps connected to the woman. I am aware of who she is, and she has resources that would put my own and your city's to shame from my understanding. If it is truly her, then I would be wary of those she's outright bought to serve her as well. That all said, if it is vengeance you seek, I can provide it but be neither easy nor quick. And for it, I will need to be sent back to what you call the Shadowlands." She reaches up, scratching the back of her neck where an unfamiliar patch of scales and feathers reside before frowning slightly. Without turning to look at her, Jezebel tries to talk to the warlock. "What would it take you to send me back to the Shadowlands?"
