Which does suggest that the only beings capable of "holding a deity to account" are other deities (and the Snarl) - since there's no overdeity in OOTS.

That said, since Banjo's power is dependent on Number of Worshippers, it is possible that if a bunch of worshippers were to stop worshipping, that deity would weaken.

I'd argue that is confirmed, since Hel has no living worshippers and is presented as weaker.

She's also kind of presented as being a whiny diva about a fairly minor amount of power. So it may be that worshippers mostly apply to power post-mortem when they become soul bricks.

I'm not sure why some of you are talking as if Thor is disappointed in something. "We need to talk" tells us what's about to happen is important, but it doesn't at all imply Durkon did something wrong. Especially within the context of this situation.

I'm pretty sure that even if he wanted this to be canon, the Giant would not draw this. Despite occasionally having some mature content, the Giant has proven in the past that he does not like to show gore. See the comic with "Brainy Pete". These kinds of things happen off panel, so that readers are not traumatized.

I was traumatised by #780. I still skip past it when re-reading.

As for the whole "Thor should apologize to Durkon" thing.

I don't think Durkon would wish for an apology, or would be comfortable with one. I don't imagine any genuine Thor worshiper wants an apology from Thor. Acknowledgement of past suffering, yes. Compassion and understanding, yes. But not an apology.

More than anything, what I would want in this situation is confirmation that there is a plan.

To say much more would be getting too much into real-world religion, which is always a problem whenever the gods show up in OOTS.

Waaay back when, when Durkon and Hilgya first hooked up, Loki was shown to have a very casual manner of speech when being serious, even to the point of calling Thor "Dude". Whereas Thor was still much more... Vikingish, I guess is the word. Boisterous, loud, and crass. So much so, that he's either drinking or talking about feeling up Sif. This dialogue coming from him is off and fits Loki more.

Or maybe I'm talking out of rear end *shrug*

I feel like it's far too early to say anything about dialogue being wrong for a character we really haven't heard talk extensively.

And my second thought is that I doubt Loki could intercept Dwarves who would rightly be Thor's anyway.

Okay, so it's likely not gonna be a "Throw the game, let us smudge the world, and I'll let you have a shiny place of veneration/some such a thing."

Nergal is part of the Western Pantheon (and if memory serves, its master?) and they collectively voted yes on the question of destroying the world.

It seems unlikely that he would have been opposed, being firstly a deity of death and destruction, and secondly needing to outweigh the presumably world-preserving Elven deities in order to get an overall vote in favour from the pantheon.

Depending on which version of the Mesopotamian pantheon Rich is using, Enki, Marduk and Tiamat are stronger contenders.

Marduk is the chief deity of the Western Pantheon, as seen here. (He's also Wrecan's god going by his shield.) Based on #273 and #999, I'd reckon Ishtar and Tiamat are the next biggest deities in the West, analogous to Thor and Loki in the North.
