The vial smacks into the beast's gelatinous face, actually indenting itself within it. The vial dissolved in the acid almost immediately, releasing the esoteric matter into the center of the beast. In a process that took a few seconds, the greenish ooze that made up its 'head' turned a slight shade of orange as the dream was absorbed. As soon as it does, it stops and turns 180o. As it made its way south, you see it begin to climb the outcropping to the west. From the south you hear confused talking that quickly turnis into alarm, as screams can be heard from the next room. Do you go to investigate, or do you wait for the sound to die down to check it out?

Akaash follows a safe distance behind to evaluate the proceedings.

Following the thing's path, you see a ghastly sight. The Emkrah has grabbed a jackal man and stuffs it into it face. Meanwhile, Two thugs try to slash at it with their swords, but they're not doing much against it. Meanwhile to the north, you see a halfling screaming at three humans to unlock the door, but the logical fear of seeing your boss getting devoured was making it difficult.

Do you let the scene play out, or do you intervene?

Shrinking away from the sight of the horrific beast, it takes Alssariq a moment to recover and start to chase after Akaash. When he arrives, he knocks an arrow and, absent anyone in the party trying to stop him, looses it at one of the humans the halfling is excoriating.

The post shots the party takes does little to distract the terrified criminals. Rowan blasted the quartet trying to escape and the two attacking the emkrah didn't last long either. After a few more seconds, the ejecting non-organic pieces of it's meal; the ex-Father Jackal's gear. As it is finishing with that, the Denizen, apparently finished with his "meditation" walks into the room. As he does, the emkrah grows still and its gelatinous "head" begins to harden. Turning to face you, he speaks, a red silk bag in his hand. "You don't know the details, but you've done me a great service. Take the contents of this pouch as your reward. You may find its contents of great value once you reach Kakishon. I have been upon its secret shores before; I knew the way when Nex still walked them. Yet know this-what you seek in Kakishon is what you need, yet what you need is not what you seek." And with that, he lays his hand on the beast and vanishes, returning to Leng with his newest acquisition.

In the coming days, the talk around town basically is the twin questions of how much will they sell the scroll for and who is rich enough to buy it, as your actions clearly proved that trying to take it by force is clearly not an option. The tale of your prowess has made sure that the more pushy would-be buyers keep a respectable distance. Reyhan recovers quickly and continues his research. About a fortnight later, he leaves a note by your rooms, saying he thinks he has the scroll figured it out, but with everyone out in town, either shopping, or partying or visiting family, he wants to wait until morning while you're all present.

What will the scroll reveal? Will the party be able to withstand whatever danger thrusts themselves at them next? Or will the upcoming darkness swallow them whole? Only time will tell.

Thank you for Playing Legacy of Fire, Book 3: The Jackal's Price

The party will return in Legacy of Fire, Book 4: The End of Eternity

    Spoiler: His gear
    Show
3 potions of armor of faith, a tan bag of tricks, 6 masterwork throwing axes, miscellaneous keys, a mythril breastplate and a adamantine battleaxe

    Spoiler: The bag
    Show
In the bag is a multitude of rubies, most of them small and match the strange gemstones you found on the One Source Thugs when Reyhan was attacked, meaning this is that Captain that Goma heard about. More notably, the small gemstones are worth about 5,000 gp, which is nothing to shake a stick at. There are two more notable gemstones, one a large one that turns out to function as a stone of good luck. Though weirder is a what appears to be a twisted tuning fork made of a single ruby. And while it faintly detects as belonging to the Fate sphere, its other functions remain unknown.
