"It wasn't my idea to approach them in the first place, but now that we've invested to much into them I figured, at the time, that I needed to get on their good side." Nora can almost hear Telly roll eyes at her past self. "But enough about me, you might get stuck like that for a long time unless you can convince Tina come back. But frankly, I doubt that's going to happen. So instead, I'm going to suggest that you come over to my manor so I might have a closer look at you. Perhaps I can find some way to fix you."

[Tieflings and Vampires and Sneks Oh My]

"The effect is the same regardless of age I'm afraid. Apparently, it somehow makes exceptions of people related to it, like us and the girls. I don't like the idea of someone getting a glance at her eyes though even if its little chance in here." Astrana says as she never takes her eyes off Maha as she's being held in Val's arms.
Then she sigh. "We might need to start looking for a new apartment though, this place already felt small with the girls."

Rosalind walks in, looking around the house. It's good to be in a house where she can assume her real height without caring about causing a cave-in or something. "Of course, Fel. A rum and coke, dragon liver buster style." She replies, taking off her suit jacket and hanging it on the coat hanger. "This is an awesome place you have here, Fel."

"Right, right. Well we've talked about this before. It's not like we've had enough space for a while now." Valerie says, refocusing on that problem. "I don't think any apartment will do anymore. I know we've been socking away money, but I don't think buying a house is an option. Maybe we can find a house to rent? It'll be a bit tight, especially with another mouth to feed, but you're right that we can't stay here."

"Oh right, shoot." Valerie adds all of a sudden. "I was going to tell you when you got home. My parents called today. They're planning to move here. If we coordinate and live in the same neighborhood, they'd love to help watch the kids sometimes."

    [Sagittarius Towers - Day]

"Oh, oh yeah! ****, Rein, sorry. Come on in." Fettina will guide him inside. The lobby is a stone path set into a tiny artificial moat, where a stone nymph on a pedestal dominates the center of the room and feeds the waters from a cracked pitcher. Stairs lead up into the apartment proper, a crescent around the Towers central spire, a lavish setting covered in lush rugs and curvaceous furnishings. It's a mess. Tina even has an AI to clean the apartment and still, it manage sot be a mess. Especially right now, with how down she's been. "So this must be like a regular day at the office for you, h-huh?"

    [Sagittarius Towers - Night]

"Aw, c'mon Cantie. You don't know me all that well yet if you think I'm honest," says Tina, dropping her gaze and blushing. "But you're a decent kind of girl. You're all... bright. Makes me look shiny too. Probably everyone looks a little better to you." Fettina laughs.

"So are you gonna tell me what the hell happened?" She looks down where Cantie's injury used to be.

Khannie looks down at her feet.

"Yes I would have... It wouldda happened some different way."

She doesn't sound totally convinced of this.

What other way would it have happened?

    Well...

    Maybe...

Maybe she would have been Jace and Veronica's daughter instead?

    That would still be cool.

”Oh Young Vallarm, would you? Your father had no siblings for you, even not knowing you existed until he rescued you. He has had no children since. The nature of your birth is irrelevant to him; he adores you entirely. But had you not been made that day, at that moment, you would not be here. That is no reason to despair. But you must accept who and what you are. Only then can you find your true strength.” the god assures her.

Would she really be... her... if she had come into existence some other way, though?

That's a question for philosophers, not ten year olds.

"But... I don't want to be a pokemon," Khannie objects. "I like being human. My fingers work better and humans never go feral."

An involuntary shudders run though her.

"Most humans don't know what going feral is like cuz it never happens to them. If I'm never a pokemon that'll never happen to me."

    Yeah.

A few of her childhood friends went feral back in the pokemon world.

    It's horrifying.

Violet pushes the last bit of her steak into her mouth as Fel talks about her hands. Damn those were large. She ruminates for a moment before standing up.

Ok, hangovers gone. Weird frog guy I'm gonna need you to be gone by the time we're done so I can pretend you didn't listen to anything. Astrana was for the moment glad she didn't have parents, this felt like it would be awkward just talking about. To have two people come in and judge all your life choices like this. So much had happened since she had last properly communicated with them and even if Val had been in closer touch with them, this would be the first time since-

"I mean... what do they need to know? We're living together, we have kids. We don't have much extended family, so they want to be able to see us and their grandchildren." Valerie frowns at Astrana's tone. Why is she always so hesitant when it comes to Valerie's parents? Of course, there's a more pressing concern. "The only thing they don't know about is, um, that their son is their daughter now. Which is probably going to be an extremely awkward conversation, but it had to happen sometime."

"I don't have time to think about it, I need to go save my daddy!" Khannie objects as she hurries out into the hallway.

    There it is.

The drawer with her pendant in it.

She'll start off simple enough here.

She tries to pull it open!

    ...but it's locked.

    Of course it is.

Khannie rattles the drawer a few times. Still nothing.

She huffs, clenches and unclenches her fist a few times, and then suddenly her arm up to the elbow goes all purple and insubstantial. She tries reaching through the drawer.

The drawer, stubbornly, is made of safe-grade materials and is warded against intrusion. Mostly because a) it's where Jace keeps all his magic stuff and b) he knew exactly who would be trying to tamper with it. Anubis rolls his eyes and goes after her.
"Save him from what, exactly? From the things he's spent his life dealing with? His own girlfriend?
If you haven't noticed, Young Vallarm, not stopping to think about it is why you're in this situation in the first place. What makes you think he'll respond to you charging into danger any differently than how he always has?"
    he asks her.

    Khannie frowns at the safe.

    Foiled!

"Because I'll be saving HIM this time instead of some other people," Khannie reasons. "And he'll see that I can really do it."

With the drawer still refusing to budge, and with her arm being unable to pass through, she decides that it's time to get a little more violent.

She focuses briefly, hauling back her fist, before aiming to punch the safe! Her fighting spirit flares with stone-shattering, barrier sundering force!

    Brick-Break, basically.

    This probably won't work either.

    But she has to try!

The drawer refuses to dent. Nothing happens.
Well, except for a bunch of words appearing at the point of impact.
NICE TRY KHANNIE. YOU ARE SO GROUNDED.

"Right. Except if he's not actually in any danger, or you fail, in which case you will only manage to make everything worse." says the got blithely. Children. He's glad the ones in his family are centuries old minimum.

    Khannie scowls at the text.

    She really doesn't care.

    At all.

    Even a little bit.

This is WAY more important than being grounded.

"No, it'll make everything better," Khannie insists as she turns and hops down the stairs. Down the stairs and to the tool drawer! That one isn't locked.

    Not even a little bit!

She'll return to the offending drawer with... a screwdriver? And out of her pocket she pulls several picks. How did those get in there?

She has no idea where this idea came from. It just sort of... popped into her head. She begins fiddling with the lock in spite of the fact that there's no reason why she should have any idea how to do any of these things. No reason other than the fact that she's a video game protagonist and which RPG hero doesn't know how to pick locks for no good reason?

After some rattling, the first of Khannie’s picks breaks. This is not surprising.
What is surprising is that Anubis is fairly sure she almost had it.
And it’s a combination lock. For once the god feels distinctly out of control of the situation. These things don’t happen when Horus manifests. He needs to stick to being Morne’s quest marker. Things make more sense when he’s pointing a robotic warlock-cleric at dungeons to shoot up.

”Oh, so close, Young Vallarm.” he coos, betraying none of his exasperation. ”You know, as a god I can help you with that. But you’ll have to make a promise to me. Take Commissar with you. Give him a chance to prove himself. Promise me that and I’ll help you get that open.”

    Khannie frowns.

    She was close!

She can TELL she was close!

But she only has three more picks... what if she breaks the others?

Anubis is given a skeptical look.

"I thought you DIDN'T want me to go?" she asks skeptically.

    Something's fishy about this situation.

And it isn't the tuna sandwich she had for lunch, either.
