EDIT: "It's a mango" is now my new expression for "whattaya gonna do?"

    This explains... so much.
“Evil is evil. Lesser, greater, middling, it's all the same. Proportions are negotiated, boundaries blurred. I'm not a pious hermit, I haven't done only good in my life. But if I'm to choose between one evil and another, then I prefer not to choose at all.”

So does Odin have alzheimer's or is "highfather" meant to mean "high" father?

Wow. "Thar was a reason!" Great parallel to "I get ta go home!"

Especially contrast his reaction to the rest of the Order's upon hearing of the prophecy. They conclude it's every bit as cruel and unfair as Durkon suspected. Durkon, with this knowledge, concludes the opposite.

What an opportunity Elan missed when he didn't become a cleric of Odin!

So do we know what the previous world was a reference to?

It sounds like either Conan the Barbarian or maybe AD&D Dwarves who can't use magic?

So, taking bets now. Is Odin just loopy, or was Loki involved?

Ah, the downsides of belief. Probably also helps to explain why Hela is so certain she can do better than Gramps.

The bit about the northerners in the last world being against magic, wasn't that 2nd edition D&D?

You can boot off a floppy, but don't you DARE copy that floppy!

...Sorry had to get that joke in.

This strip continues the theme of gods taking on characteristics that their worshippers THINK they have. Thor went from ginger to blonde, while Odin went from wise all-father to Cloud Coocoolander, albeit one who occasionally shows moments of brilliance.

And here, we see the downside of being shaped by belief. Of course, I have a feeling Odin may be pulling a Lord Shojo, if you catch my meaning.

Also "1.5e", that is 1985's Unearthed Arcana that added the Barbarian class (if you don't count the earlier version in The Dragon magazine).

    Ahem. Anyway.

What amazes me is just how many plot points are being wrapped up in this sequence. It has not felt like we were approaching the end game to me, until just now.

There is also a(nother) call back to the first fight with Miko, where the Planetars decided not to tell Durkon the reality of the situation: strip 201
