Outdoor Survival test (1d100)[14] vs. Int 44

Edit: @dojango - If the consequences of failing the Toughness test are really bad, I'm going to spend an FP to re-roll the test.

Not as bad as failing the toughness test the last time, that's for sure. Just that you feel really bad and aren't holding up to the rigors of soldiering quite as well.

How bulky and heavy are the boxes of weapons that we're transporting for Destiny? Can Gabriele and Severin carry them if necessary?

You have about 20 hand weapons, 20 daggers and 10 bows and maybe 200 arrows in two large chests. Not to mention a few weeks of supplies. So roughly... 2500 points of encumbrance. You have a light cart which you might be able to push/pull yourselves. You can see that they are double teaming the heaviest wagons so you might have difficulty finding another horse, but manpower on the other hand...

That's actually a fair bit more in terms of weaponry than I expected when Destiny said she wanted to smuggle in "a crate or two of daggers".

So, we either need to move the boxes to another cart, or convince someone to help us move our cart, or convince Barnaby to give us our cart horses back in order for us to carry out our Very Important Secret Mission.

    Any preferences?

Maybe see if there's a persuadable cart driver out there first. Depending on hunting rolls maybe Gabriele can pay them in better food.

Worth a shot, but I've just now realized that I'm leery of abandoning our cart and getting stuck with the Duke's supply wagons...which have a proven record of getting stuck in the mud.

But what the heck - I guess redistributing the supplies will take a while. Let's go talk to some drivers!

Do you think you could whip up something to pinpoint where we are more exactly? The gorge we've been following isn't on the map is it?

I'm imagining that it's possible to move the army using the river and then hopping off somewhere downstream to march straight up to the Inselberg, is that right? And is there a good reason why the Duke would have elected to go by land in the first place? Is it a massive detour, less likely to lead to surprise, or something else?

So you're in square H22 on the north side of the river. The gorge you're following is part of the hills there, but is only seasonally filled with water. The reason the Duke isn't taking the army down the river is quite simply there aren't enough boats in this part of the world for him to be able to move the entire army all at once, and even if there were they would expect to be paid for that service, whereas having soldiers walk somewhere is free.

Would it be possible for Laurens' horsemen to carry their own supplies, perhaps using pack horses? Or aren't there enough horses/mules/ponies in the army for that?

    @Haval & dojango

If we can manage to find transport for our contraband weapons, perhaps this would be a good time to bring Laurens in on the plan?

Could the "secret" passage we think was being used by slaves to escape be cleared to make it easier for armed human soldiers to crawl through? If so, that could enable Laurens to mount a surprise attack from below and we could add to his forces by freeing and arming the slaves once the attack begins.

Those are definitely details that Sir Laurens doesn't want to bother working out! But soldiers can carry a few days rations, perhaps a week's worth. Less if they need fodder for the horses (which they will). If they bring pack horses they'll need people to handle them as well (so more food and fodder) and those people will need to be guarded (or be soldiers themselves) reducing combat strength. It's a very risky proposition, as any of the veterans will tell you. The other option is to take supplies from the locals, assuming they can be found and 'convinced'.

Yes, that's a possibility. Smaller soldiers would be able to get through, certainly not a knight in armor, though. The path through the mines to the top of the mesa is better, although it does require some gnarly wall-climbing up an elevator shaft. IIRC Harman got real lucky on his rolls and then dropped a rope for you guys.

How long would it take us to get there anyway? Assuming no further delays.
