    Justin moves towards the barricade and does not slow down, jumping over it in one great leap, almost reaching the cave ceiling. He lands on his feet on the other side, faced with, as far as he can see, three reptiloids equipped with javelins. Lizuga, Iris and Lebwen approach the barricade a bit more carefully. Even despite the cavern's very strong stench, Lizuga and Iris recognize a familiar scent, also quite strong near the barricade - that one of lamp oil! Adalbert trails behind, giving some late advise.


    "These must be the Troglodytes! They probably don't know Common. I can try talking to them... oh!"

    The last "...oh!" was said as a reaction to what the troglodytes did - they seemingly ignored Justin, drew one clay flask each and threw them - at the barricade! The barricade quickly catches on and is soon all aflame, cutting Justin from the rest of the party!

    Crossing the burning barricade is possible with:
    Jump DC 30 at normal speed (normally done with a running start)
    Acrobatics DC 20 at difficult terrain speed

    "Don't fear the flames!" urges Iris to Lizuga as she draws on her divine faith to shield the warrior woman, "Looks like the lad could do with some help". She steps, still invisible, next to Lizuga and touches her shoulder, mystic blessings protecting the larger woman.

    Seeing lizuga collapse into the flames he grimaced. "Lizuga, get out of there!" he shouts having missed Iris protecting her. He steps up to the edge of barricade shouting to Lizuga and trying to clear a path as he lunged at the troglodyte

Looking at the barricade starting to go up in flames and Justin trapped with the angry troglodytes, Lebwen looks at the options to clear the barrier, he hesitates for a second then jumps forward and starts climbing over the barrier and wall, avoiding the flames as best as possible.

    Iris casts a protective spell on Lizuga, who immediately starts to climb the barricade as fast as she can. She makes it only halfway through, when some haphazardly arranged branches give in and she has to spend time getting ontop of it again. Justin attacks the nearest troglodyte in a deep lunge, piercing the creature's chest straight through. The blood is pulsing from the wound when Justin pulls out his sword, and the troglodyte collapses to the ground. Lebwen casts a spell that would facilitate easier climbing. He has to climb over the burning barricade and the flame actually reaches quite high, so he still takes 6 fire damage doing so, but he reckons he would be burned even worse if he would not switch to climb the cave wall as soon as possible as it seems to be even worse down there where Lizuga is. Adalbert does not dare to storm the barricade and instead just gives some advice. "The troglodytes normaly fight with spears, claws and bites. Try not to get yourselves surrounded!"

    The buring barricade emits a lot of hot smoke and a strong stench of something foul burning. The troglodytes to the west throw javelins at Justin. He barely sees more of them approaching in the shadow of the cave and there are total of 6 javelins thrown, two of which hit Justin for 5 and 7 damage.

    Justin twists in the air, avoiding many of the javelins but 2 narrowly catch him doing flesh wounds. Seeing the others fighting the fire he nods, "I'll hold them off, thanks Adalbert, I'll watch for the bites!"

    With his adrenaline pumping he barely notices the scent and races forward lunging at the nearest one.

    Iris utters an uncharacteristic curse at the situation, frustrated at being cut off. She can hear the battle just beyond, but can't see a thing beyond the barricade. Fighting to keep down the rising nausea from the burning stench she reels trying to steady her focus. With a quick glance to Adalbert she calls on Shelyn to aid her with a brief blessing, letting him know she's still with him albeit invisible.

    Justin moves forward and lunges at the nearest troglodyte, stabbing him in the chest and leaving him on the ground clutching the wound and bleeding profusely. Iris steps back from the barricade, not doing much of anything except signalling her position and presence to otherwise lone Adalbert, who continues to give decreasingly relevant advice as the most relevant advice was already given and the fight has moved outside of Adalbert's line of sight. Lizuga and Lebwen hurry to Justin's side, the former also taking care of the man's wounds.

    The troglodytes counterattack, charging and swarming in from the darkness, but only one attack of the lot is any good, namely a claw across Justin's face for 4 damage.

    Lizuga's attack leaves a deep hole in the chest of a troglodyte, but he remains standing. A moment later justing makes a sililar-looking hole in another one, with the same effect. Controlling his dancing lights, Lebwen steps forward too. He cuts one of a troglodyte's arms off, the hapless subject passing out from the pain and extreme blood loss.

    Meanwhile, Iris pokes a stick at the burning barricade. She soon concludes it would take minutes to clear the path even if done by hand. Doing it with the stick is out of question. It'll probably burn down before she's done.

    The troglodytes counterattack. The one already fighting Justin with the claws makes one unsuccessfull attack and gets a stab under the chin and up, all the way to the brain. His body instantly loses support of the muscles. The other three, likely understanding they are not long for this world, drop their longspears and fight in close combat as well as they could, all concentrating on Justin, probably hoping to take someone with them. They claw and bite madly, but Justin gets away from all but one attack, getting a scratch for 3 damage.

This is what he had dreamed adventuring would be like, fighting in deep caves against savage monsters with trusted allies and friends by his side. As he ripostes savagely running one through the skull he twirls again, evading a snout filled with teeth he grins. Hemlock would be proud to see him putting his sword skills to work so well.

    With two stabs Justin brings down the two wounded troglodytes. The one remaining evades Lizuga's attack and first Lebwen's attack, but is eventually hit for 7 damage. The wounded troglodyte does its best to fight back, clawing and biting Lebwen for 5 and 4 damage.

    Lizuga dispatches the last of the stinky lizard-men, and heals up her companions.

    She looks over the mangled bodies, and kneels down besides them. "I'm sorry it came to this. We didn't come here to kill you. I wish you hadn't tried to kill us. I hope you will find peace and happiness where you have gone now".
    And with that, she is back on her feet.

    She gingerly tests the limits of her protection on the flaming barricade, then sets about dismantling it.

    It takes several minutes for Lizuga to clear a way through the barricade. By that time the barricade is halfway burned out. Nobody disturbs you while you are at it.

    "Well so much for the diplomatic approach. They know we're here now and will probably have better defenses set up, so lets proceed with caution. Also now that we know we're in the troglodyte caves, we also know the hydra should be around this part of the cave system." Lebwen says as he looks over the corpses for anything of interest.
    "It looks like we've got two directions to go in, you want to do a bit of scouting Iris? You'll have a much better shot at moving unseen than the rest of us."

    Justin breathes heavily, checking the wounds he's suffered, but with Lizuga's aid they seem minor and nothing more than bruises and scrapes. "Aye, well, guess these beasts ain't so friendly. Maybe they were not treated well by those women soldiers that the witch told Lebwen about". He checks the troglodytes briefly to see if any still live, or if there are anything of value and then glances up at Lebwen.

    "Thanks for the lights. Would have been iffy fighting these guys in the dark." At mention of a hydra he looks at Lebwen and their halfling companion. "A hydra, what manner of beast is that? What should we watch for?". Then as Iris is volunteered to scout he grins at her, "Take care, watch javelins." THen he follows behind her, moving quietly and hugging the cave walls.

    A flicker of doubt washes over Iris as she's volunteered to scout ahead and she gulps involuntarily, but she knows it's the right decision. "If I scream, you come running, right?" she half-jokes.

    Iris checks the western part of the cave. It is about 30 feet wide and extends about 100 feet to the north, but does not contain much besides the troglodytes you've killed, their spears and javelins, and a heap of about a dozen other, dead, troglodytes, all having assorted wounds with clear signs of untreated infection. This part seems to be a dead-end and does not lead anywhere.

    Looking around Justin watches Iris and shakes his head sadly as the report of the dead end filled with dead lizardfolk is returned. "Aye, well, it seems that the ladies must have sided with the frogs. Worse luck for these folk." Nodding to the main cave that they had passed (D2) he looks to Lebwen, "So shall we float the lights down and continue to explore." After looking once more at the pile of dead troglodytes by his feet he look the others. "Maybe put the lights ahead of us to give them warning. Aadelbert, you said you could speak to them. Maybe I should be less rash next time, I don't really want to cut my way through anymore of these poor savages. Could you shout to them to surrender and that we mean no harm?"

    The young man looks quite crestfallen, any excitement from the brief battle now dissipated completely as he looks at the damage done to the trogs and glances in the room neyond with more dead. "Poor beasts, hopefully we can offer some food or something and just pass through without having to kill anymore of them."

    Lebwen does a quick look over the corpses, trying to determine if they're likely from the known fights with the boggards or from some other cause.

    "Well we know there are a lot fewer to face for sure. Let's let Iris look around the other path, and maybe if she can see some a little less prepared they might be willing to hear Adalbert out on not dying today" Lebwen says after looking over the dead.
