I mean, even a variant cutscene in which, if you have Power Armor, they run a couple of high voltage lines down, you're looking around and seeing these cables and not realizing what is going on, then they fry out your suit. That, at least, is a believable way of taking someone out of power armor. Pipes? Not so much.

Because science gives me so much energy weapon ammo, and the weapons are pretty enticing in NV compared to Fallout 4.

I am not talking purely from a gameplay perspective but is there also a reason to employ both, as in - is there different DT and DR for both damage types?
Older Fallouts had different damage types having different resistances, i.e. lasers were particularly ineffective because so many armors were effective against lasers, while much fewer armors provided resistance against the electrical damage of the pulse pistol or pulse rifle. In New Vegas, it's much simpler: DT is the same, no matter which weapon or skill is used.

As such, if you have the skill points to invest in more than one weapon skill, go for it. And let's face it, if you have INT 8, you're gonna be able to max out most of the skills you really need and still have some left over for backup weapon skills.

Same here. I don't have the reflexes to move through a doorway, spin around, ID the radio, determine if it's shielded or not and then either kill it or run away in the time it takes the collar to explode. Same reason why I use VATS most of the time.

Thanks, man! Now, instead of asking 'what mod does that' every five minutes, I can just refer to the mod list.

I must say I'm impressed, AWOP, P:NV, EVE, AND WMX playing nice together? Much less all the rest. It must have taken quite some doing, and perhaps sacrificing a Securitron to RobCo at midnight.

You have no idea, man. That modlist represents a week of Sundays hunched over my PC, following the EssArrBee Fear and Loathing guide, and I've still managed to muck some things up.

    • You may notice that distant terrain is missing most of the vegetation LOD. That's because despite following the guide to the letter, I haven't managed to make DynDoLOD work right; as a result, the LOD meshes of the vanilla game sometimes don't match right with the LOD textures from Vurt's Wasteland Flora Overhaul, and just fail to render in. F'r'instance, if you stand on the road to Goodsprings and look towards the cemetary, the hill is notably lacking a pair of trees and the water tower.
    • What's more, WFO is perhaps the single greatest reason for me recording in 30fps rather than 60fps. While I can drive the game at 60 most of the time, whenever I enter a new cell in the outdoors, the game stutters a little bit while it loads all the plants. Thank you, Obsidian, for never optimizing your games. (And no, don't even suggest getting rid of WFO, because it looks ~pretty~)
    • In order to fit under the theoretical 255 plugin limit and the less theoretical ~135ish plugin actual limit, I've used Merge Plugins to merge several gameplay mods together. Bottle That Water is one of them, and doesn't appear to work, despite every other mod in that merged plugin working fine. I have no idea why this might be, and frankly I'm too afraid to touch my modlist to find out.
    • Occasionally, the game boots with jittery, stuttery music. Other times it is fine, with no change in mods.

For now, I'm content to let that sleeping dog of a modlist lie while I record. In the meantime, I'm rebuilding the modlist-o-doom in a second isolated instance of Mod Organizer, with the hopes that I can undo some of the mistakes I made the first time around.

Why is making those four play nice together such a big deal? It's literally just paying attention to the load order. And making sure you apply the necessary patches.

Yeah, I'm a frequent VATS user too. I just don't like that a low skill is going to get in my way of aiming a good shot. I'm a medeocre shot as it is without a skill penalty. I think Skyrim had it right where skill just modifies damage done and what perks you can access.

Funny, I almost never use VATS except as a cheat to ID my targets. The only exception is when something ridiculously fast and deadly is way too close - then I find the VATS difficulty (which takes into account range but not, apparently, motion) gives me a better chance.

The real problem with VATS is that it doesn't work terribly well at the time you'd really want it to, namely, when your enemy is a long distance away--chance to hit tails off so rapidly with distance that you're better off doing regular FPS at range. With the right talents melee VATS is a barrel of laughs, though, especially when you can teleport directly to your enemy and chop their head off with one strike.

Conversely, that's the exact reason I use VATS. I prefer my RPG combat to be turn-based, and VATS lets me treat the FPS RPG like a turn-based RPG.

Actually, I find VATS most useful at medium-short ranges. I can snipe kind of decently because enemies generally aren't running around. Vs ghouls, for example, if a group of them charges me I can kill several before they get to me but (using my current TTW game as an example) I'll shoot off a couple magazines from my assault rifle and a couple of them will still get hits on me. Dropping into VATS, though, I can put 1-2 bursts in the heads of most of them, and then finish off any I didn't have AP for manually, saving ammo and rarely getting hit at all.

VATS is the "Help there is a Cazador!" button.

I tend to play without it as much as possible.

Though really the engine is bad for ranged combat against enemies that know you are present, which is why the stealth part of stealth archers is there.

There's always a Bright Follower in that cave, but what they're carrying is a bit of a crapshoot beyond always being an energy weapon. F'r'instance, I actually did a second take of this episode because I wasn't satisfied with the audio in the beginning, and on the second playthrough I got a plasma pistol instead of a recharger rifle. I understand there's a very low chance for a recharger pistol to spawn on the Bright Followers, but it's never happened to me.

It pays, usually, to know where the Bright Follower corpses are in the early game. Episode 3, for instance, sees Gabriel chase a trail of powder gangers north to Sloan--where, coincidentally, there's also a second Bright Follower under the rail bridge just out of Sloan.

I'll be honest, that recharger rifle you found is pretty darn good with WMX involved. Check the mods that can be applied to that thing, makes it at least as good as the Alpha Hyperbreeder.

Come Fly With Me is basically code for “free energy weapons” thanks to the sheer number of Bright corpses in a small area. Which is why I almost never skip the quest, even if it’s trivially easy to do so.

I've been replaying Fallout 4 in VR, and I'm beginning to notice something: Bethesda really likes throwing surprise deathclaws at the player. You kill Gristle in Concord, and a deathclaw pops out of a sewer. You're exploring a mall in Boston, turn a corner, and there's a deathclaw crawling over the edge of the rooftop garden. You're playing basketball in the Boston mayoral shelter and whoops! Here's a deathclaw crawling out of a pipe system like a less-congenial Bowser!

Boy do I have to tell you about the Salem Museum of Witchcraft!

It's also really good for various scrap and components. Lousy with scrap metal and electronics, batteries... all kinds of goodies.

Good thing Novac is next door. Get your little apartment first and then make a few raiding trips to claim it all. Could even get Boone to accompany you if you want to take out all the mutants.
