Seeing Cendrik emerge, Melinda casts another spell, and a sheet of violet flame rises from the pavement.

Rex nods in kind to what Melinda says, "LockHeed won't." he says, "Right now." He folds his arms and stares at the mess Cendrik is in ""Who are they, and why did they have you....so bound?"

Fenti looks up at the hulking, armored dragonborn. “The thieves guild, who else? The new boss there doesn’t take no for an answer, and he’s got really good informants somehow. I’ve seen and even fought worse, but the best way to stay alive is to not fight unless you have to. Can we….go? I think even with me being short everything except my personal knife, I’d rather be underground than spend another day here.”

Melinda casts a spell, a big wall of roaring flame springing into existence. The lone guard, who’s been watching, yells “Hey! Hey! No firestarting!”

Cendrik hops off the wagon and runs just out of the cloud, still unable to focus. Behind him, he senses three other people leave the wagon, while the driver tries to get his horses to move forward, as the wagon’s cover starts to burn. One of the three ends up next to Cendrik, just out of the Wall of Fire, while the other two seem to go another route.

Rex frowns at the thief's words they weren't surprising, he was a thief after all, turning to the guard "we won't start anything," he turns to Melinda "Let's keep this contained, we can't have another tower on our hands." turning back to the thief "We don't tend to let people get away from stealing from us, as a matter of good business, I think you can understand that?"

Xaanthios grimnaced. "Why did you do that? Get rid of the fire. I can use a construct to capture the kidnapper.

Melinda sighs and dismisses the wall of fire.

Round 3

The wall of fire is dismissed.

The figure next to Cendrik becomes visible as a medium-sized human, wearing a tough-looking leather coat, and carrying, of all things, a scythe. The other two (on the south side of the cloud) are also wearing leather coats, with short swords in their hands.

The two to the south stagger away into an alley. The one with the scythe runs west, through the cloud. Cendrik follows.

You hear a shout of protest from one of the nearby houses, complaining about the horrific stench. Someone had a window open.

Unguided, the horses stumble forward out of the cloud, although the driver is still stuck inside it.

Melinda's fire wall drops. Xaanthios spots Cendrik's foe and immediately manifests a power causing a shimmer of silver energy to engulf the human near Cendrik.

Rex grimaces at the scene, this was fast becoming another tower incident.

"Lockheed, watch this dwarf" he says looking at the man, and then jogs off, after Cendrik.

"Cendrik, do we really need to do this?" he yells as he jogs along.

Cendrik was both gagging and obviously highly pissed off. Between gags he expressed "Bastards are stealing from Great Leader and we want our guide to have those items to help our mission for Great Leader. Have Lockheed snatch one of them?"

Xaanthios’ Time Hop power fails. Rex jogs towards Cendrik and the stinking cloud.

Melinda chases the two who ran into the alley. Rex calls out to his wyvern, who hops into the air and wings his way over the dragonborn’s head, but is still short (at 60’ move) of the stinking cloud.

You can’t see through the cloud, but you can hear the wagon slowly moving away.

The two men Melinda is looking at exit the end of the alley and split up, one going left and the other right.

"Can't dismiss it," Melinda says before disappearing into the alley.

Xaanthios meets Cendrik at the edge of the cloud. The psion sees Melinda about to disappear into the alleys. "Better to not blindly wander into their domain. Better to get the cart and driver? Lockheed can cut them off."

Rex jogs along after Lockheed, as he flies above, moving much faster than the dragonborn laden down with his heavy armor.

Round 5

Melinda chases two of them into the alley, blasting them with magic missiles. The one she injures tumbles to a stop, raising one hand in a sort-of surrender as he leans against the wall with his other hand, continuing to wipe his eyes.

The other one continues to run away.

Lockheed flies over the cloud and sees a couple of people. None of them look like the one he was sent after, and the nearby cloud makes his nose very confused.

"I'll get this one, you get the other one." he says, vanishing and reappearing next to the one further down the alley.

With the stinking cloud not seeming to go away anytime soon and the others moving out of sight through the alley Cendrik manages to get to the entrance of the alley while spewing what's hopefully the last of the gagging from the stinking cloud.

Seeing their would be guide left unattended the psion heads back over to Fentir and keeps watch. "They'll be back soon, then we're off into the tunnels. A way out of the city, as you inquired about. We went through this trouble to get your service as a guide in there." He glances at the guard to notice his intent, takes out his dorje, then waits for the others.

Round 6

The two in the alleyway both raise their hands in surrender, starting to breathe more normally as the cloud wears off. The one who just got blasted spits on the ground. “What in the Abyss? The boss has us drop someone off, letting him go, and you attack us? What’d we do to you maniacs?”

Fentir looks up at the dragonborn. “Got it. I don’t suppose you happen to have any spare equipment, do you? The thieves guild took most of my good stuff when they snatched me. Should've left town weeks ago.”

"You either kidnapped someone, or, if your description of events is strictly accurate, are an accessory after the fact to kidnapping and attempted to leave without giving us information about your...boss," Melinda says flatly. "Now come back and answer questions, including from the person you let go in your boss's time frame, not his. Keep your hands where I can see them."

[J-H]

"Or what, you'll kill us and go down for murder? I know the City Guard, and you aren't part of it." The human ostentatiously keeps his hands out to the sides.

Melinda hears the crunch of gravel as the halfling behind you shifts his weight.

Cendrik

Finally over the stinking cloud effects, Cendrik heads down the alley way after Melinda and Rex. At the next intersection he sees her facing down another alley to his left and the other thief off to his right being handled by Rex. Cendrik turns to the right and keeps going past Rex, using his leaping ability to hurry himself around the building. "Getting around to the front of the wagon, hopefully."

Xaanthios
The psion answers Fentir. "We brought gear for you but your captor took it. Let's see what the others have when they are done. In the meantime you don't need those ropes." Xaan unties the bindings while getting a good look at the dwarf.

Cendrik: From P14, move south to P19 then west. After 20' of movement, jump for the final 10'. That lets me activate skill trick Extreme Leap ("If you make a horizontal jump of at least 10 feet during your turn, you can spend a swift action to move an additional 10 feet on that turn.") to continue onward to G19, able to see northward.

[Kish]

Melinda glances over her shoulder to confirm that Rex and Cendrik have joined her and these dubiously-surrendered kidnappers are outnumbered, before returning her attention to the speaker. "Maybe you're right, and this city is so corrupt that you can kidnap someone and get away with it because of who you know. But the thing is, whatever happens to us if we kill you, you'll be too dead to observe it."

Rex walks back with Melinda, and with a sharp whistle, signals to LockHeed to return to them.

[J-H]

Xaanthios remains with Fentir, while the others join Melinda in confronting the thieves.

"Sure thing boss. We can wait here for the guard to show up?"
