That sounds pretty irresponsible, if the well is important but you send a bloodthirsty monster that tends to destroy things if it gets attacked, which you admit is often.
He also takes a step or two back. There's definitely something out here, and if it's coming to finish its job he doesn't want to be next to it when it happens.
