Why are we even surprised?

The phrase "surprising yet inevitable" pops into mind here. We all knew how it was going to end, but why it happened surprised us. And only because it's been so long since Agatha did anything not strictly Good, so we forgot she isn't. Here is where the D&D alignment system fails due to lack of granularity: Agatha is clearly somewhere between CG and CN. And I think Klaus thankfully shows that not all sparks are Chaotic.

She's focused on Zeetha. And if she saw Tarvek she would be calling him Prince Squealy. Also Bang wouldn't hesitate to shoot if she was so inclined.

That's definitely a possibility. Zeetha & Maxim's discussion a few pages back could certainly foreshadow that. Maybe there are a number of stress factors that allow Lucrezia some wiggle room to manipulate Agatha? Or maybe the fugue state makes Agatha more susceptible to Lucrezia?

We know exhaustion makes it easier to influence agatha. Even through the necklace. Its not direct control, it doesnt even seem to be subtle control so much as... leakage of mannerisms and subconscious knowledge.

Probably, but we don't know for certain. Agatha and Violet have a conversation on the train where they say he is, but it's not made clear if they actually know, or are just assuming.

I think that would involve a greater degree of thought than she's actually put into this. The thought process seems to have been "Summoning a critter from another dimension sounds fun. Fixing this machine is also fun. DO IT!".

This might be the most important comic since Agatha was recognized by blood.

In one foolish move, she proved that Klaus, Albia, the Master, and yes, Othar were right. She may have doomed every man, woman, and child alive all while trying to help stop evil.

Othar is correct in that Sparks are the source of all the madness.
Albia is wise in keeping all the maniacs in a place where they can be blown up.
The Master did have a weird system, where you need time inside Paris to earn time inside Paris.

And now Klaus has been proved right in that allowing him to hang out with Agartha is in fact a massive risk.
She just have to strong a Spark. Without the common sense or survival instinct Gil and Tarvek has to temper it.

Of course, its likely safer for everyone else if they were around to protect Europe from her.
