    Default Idle Musings-YuGiOh Cards As Monsters

    So, I like YuGiOh. Is fun. And I want to convert YuGiOh cards to monsters. My initial thought was simple-divide the Atk by 100 and Def by 100, to get their OCR and DCR.

    But that leads to MASSIVE issues. Namely, take a monster with 2000 Atk and 0 Def. It would have an OCR of 20-the kind of monster that can threaten Barbarians at level 20! But a DCR of 0. The kind of monster who gets felled by a lucky hit from a first level Fighter-not even a crit, just a good damage roll on a hit. Its final CR would be 10-and the fight would NEVER be fun. Either the PCs win the init and kill it in one round, or it wins init, kills one or more players, and then gets plastered in return.

    So, anyone got good thoughts for conversions?
    I have a LOT of Homebrew!

    Ok, fishing out my old cards (I admit it, and feel no shame), there's the stars just under the monster name. Maybe use a multiple of those as an alternate value for the DCR or ORC?

    Although how do we address Links? They have no level or rank.

    But, let's begin with the Phantom Knights!

    Gonna default to 2*Level, plus or minus 1, for CR

    Ancient Cloak. Should be a balanced monster, with a bit better defense than offense. Has the ability to debuff while Dodging, probably. CR 5-7.

    Silent Boots. Much more defense than offense, but grows stronger with other Phantom Knights around. CR 5-7.

    Ragged Gloves. More offense than defense, and seriously buffs the boss Phantom Knights monsters. CR 5-7.

    Cloven Helm. More offense than defense, and is empowered by other Phantom Knights dying. CR 7-9.

    Fragile Armor. More defense than offense, and can teleport to where another Phantom Knights monster dies. CR 7-9.

    Then, the XYZ monsters. I'll use 3*Level for their base CR.

    Break Sword. More offense than defense, a once-per-day powerful destruction effect, and when he dies, he summons other Phantom Knights. CR 8-10.

    Cursed Javelin. Much more offense than defense. Antimagic and debuffs. CR 5-7.

    Dark Rebellion XYZ Dragon. Able to steal offense from those he fights, gaining it for himself. CR 11-13.

    Dark Requiem XYZ Dragon. A pimped-up Dark Rebellion. CR 14-16.

    Evilswarm Nightmare. More defense than offense. Able to intercept and negate opponents' abilities. CR 11-13.

    Evilswarm Thanatos. More offense than defense, but can render himself immune to others abilities on a recharge. CR 11-13.

    It starts!
