Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
Remember how Susan was originally a two-dimensional straw-man feminazi but then Dan decided to make her a proper character and had to give her a reason for those negative traits so she could develop beyond them?
This is Dan doing the same, but on a more low-key level because Diane was merely a dumb teen going through a mean-girl phase.I also answer to Bookmark and Shadow Claw.

So, it looks like Diane's not changing that much, with Nanase being the one having an introspection attack.

Few pages late, but I'd like to take a moment to appreciate the insult "You condescending jerk-weasel". That's not something you hear every day.

Definitely not Noah, but I have no idea who that could be. Not one of the main characters as they don't seem to know about Grace's nudist ideals, but I don't remember the side characters well enough.

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
Could be that smoke wizard, after more information on the one person whose spells he can't copy. Seems a bit advanced for what I assume is a rookie wizard, but on the other hand he did botch it. (Assuming male pronouns for now because the smoke form was more masculine than feminine, IIRC).

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
Seems to be the smoke-person, but I must wonder how this game world relates to the "real" world, then.
Maybe it's another dimension. could it be Lord Tedd?
...Naaaah.
Edit:
If she's anatomically female then she has the smallest tracks of lands Dan ever drew. Of course that's (most likely) not their real appearance so don't have anything to go on really.Last edited by Fyraltari; 2020-04-09 at 08:32 AM.

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
Noah's speech patterns are an affectation: He's demonstrated "normal" use of emotion and contractions and forgone big words on occasion, off the top of my head when he first called Raven "dad" and I could have sworn that there was a scene of him getting super emotional somewhere but I don't know where.

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
Hrm. If DLC and everything that involved them=cheats, Susan is now much lower-level, but can still slow time, is still ridiculously rich and pure, and is tilted toward "good" in the game's morality scale.
I'm wondering how that's supposed to help the blob here. She's still practically invincible because of Slow Time; she just has to work at it marginally more now. And she can be right back where she was, in terms of being max level at everything, without DLC or fighting, it'll just require pies and then lettuce--a tedious process, not a difficult or engaging one.
(If she's max level at everything without access to DLC she might be stuck with basketball-sized...well, that probably isn't what the blob is thinking on, in light of its apparent fixation on Grace.)Last edited by Kish; 2020-04-11 at 08:53 PM.

So I guess that this means that a wizards copied spells don't go in their spellbook if they have one?

Which implies that Darth Bathrobe also has Slow Time, assuming that having Slow Time means that you are not only immune to your own Slow Time, but others using the same spell as well.

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
I'm thinking the "cheats" are all the DLC potions. They're the source of almost all of her XP, thanks to quests giving only reputation and Susan being unwilling to do the standard video game slaughter, and the "evil points" from giving cosmetic potions to NPCs were the source of her horns and tail. Take away the potions, and she's back to having just completed the end-of-tutorial levelup. She is an exceptionally famous and well equipped end-of-tutorial character, though.

No. The shadowy guy flat out says that resetting her XP and Karma to 0 is a side effect of turning off cheats, not the direct effect.

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
I don't know who first proposed the idea that this is eventually leading to a big polyamorous relationship, but this page is laying down some heavy hints in that direction.

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
I'm inclined to read it as a sort of chagrined/self-conscious "am I the only one who has no chemistry with Elliot?" moment. But I'm not terribly confident about that interpretation.

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
That's an interpretation that I hadn't thought of. I was thinking about it being related to her increasing chemistry with Tedd, but that didn't fit very well.

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
That's more or less what I thought. Plus, there's likely some added awkwardness due to the fact that the person she's currently becoming closer to has a far stronger relationship with someone else. It's a reminder that no matter how close she and Tedd get, Tedd will always be closer to her ex-boyfriend of all people. That's gotta sting.
My interpretation is that Sarah, overall, feels like she's the black sheep of the friend group, the outcast. She's the only one without magic. Everyone is better friends with someone else. Even Diane, who just showed up and has had an antagonistic history, is already ingratiating herself quite well. This whole thing is probably a punch to the gut for her.Princess Celestia's Homebrew Corner

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
Really? This makes perfect sense. In the early comics Sarah was no different than Mr. Veres or Elliot in how they reacted to Tedd's gender changing and Elliot's gender charging was a point of friction in their relationship (even if that wasn't the reason they broke up).
Okay maybe not perfect sense, but enough sense that it makes sense for Sarah to concerned about it now that all characters involved have developed more.Last edited by Lizard Lord; 2020-04-23 at 01:49 AM.

This is all I could come up with, plus "I sense a disturbance in my love life".
There's a lot of strips however, so I probably missed what she was talking about.

Re: El Goonish ShiVe: Look! Squirrel!
I am not sure I understand the "present-tense" thing in Grace's though bubble? Is it the idea that Grace is concerned that Sarah was not previously forgiven? Is there any reason that should matter if she doesn't know the context? If she did hear the context should she not be aware that Tedd and Elliot never thought there was anything to be forgiven for?
