But if all the civilians/ashigaru act... Doesn't that mean that they automatically know who the yakuza/oni are?

yeah thats what I'm wondering as well, we'll need Igor to clarify how this one works, because I only have experience from watching Among Us, which solves a lot of this by being online, and the wikipedia page I looked up didn't specify how the protection rule works in person.

like they wouldn't know who is specifically who, but they'd automatically narrow down who all the bad or non-civilian people are unless everyone can participate in civilian night phase. original rules state that the civilians only know how many yakuza there are, not who they are. not sure how this is hidden with the protect night phase.

Ok.
Night-
Mafia/Yakuza phase- "Yakuzas wake up!"
Yakuzas pick a target.
"Yakuzas go to sleep"

"Oni/serial killer wake up'
Oni pick a target
"Oni go to sleep'

"Cult leader wake up'
Cult leader pick a target.
"cult leader go to sleep'

Police/Ashigaru phase 'Ashigarus wake up"
Ashigarus pick someone to protect.
"Ashigarus go to sleep"


Day
"Everyone wake up! So and so were killed, and we know that someone was converted to a cult! (unless protected)

part of the game is to guess who is who based on the action.
"I am a yakuza. I know I have pointed at Kimiko. She isnt dead- so she was protected- was it because she was a selfish Ashigaru or because they value her intelegence? Maybe we better pick other target or find a way to frame her"-

oh, sorry I didn't see that ashigarus and civilians were different things, sorry, I should change my post.

they are on the same side, but civilians have no night actions and arent supposed to know who the Ashigarus are.
The Ashigarus cant be sure who is citizen.
