I was scouring through homebrew classes and backgronds for my next 5e campaign, and I stumbled upon this doozy.

I present to you the Displaced background.

It definitely wouldn't fit in a lot of games.

But, if your game is the kind that it fits in, I don't see anything too broken. While having a guild indebted to you is pretty potent, it's gonna come with enemies (notably other guilds that want your knowledge too).

In the Forgotten Realms campaign setting, people from Toril have visited Earth before, so someone from Earth being whisped away to Toril is possible.

A gate between two different Material Planes is more than possible, even if it requires more mana to open than a normal Gate spell...
