Is there a limit to how long threads can get?

No, but as per Rawhide, generally speaking, it is easier on the database if they don't go much longer than 50 pages. That is why I've created the new thread already - but it is currently waiting on Crusher to copy over his OP before we consider it open for business.

As I recall, standard procedure is for the mods to close threads at around 50 pages - threads longer than that tend to cause problems with the software or something like that. Some threads have gone a little past 50 before the mods stepped in - but not by much.

Is that still an issue on the new server?

I haven't heard anything of the database having been replaced, only the web server, so I'd imagine so, yes. The mods have certainly not said otherwise, so the prudent thing is to assume that until they do, the "start a new thread when you reach 50 pages" guideline is still in effect.

One could argue that the 50 page limit could serve another purpose regardless of potential server issues - once a thread gets long enough, it's rather daunting to read through the entirety, or even majority of it, which could inhibit new discussion or new people coming into it. If, for example, there were only 1 MitD thread at 700 pages, a newcomer to the topic would likely find it rather intimidating and may not wish to contribute.

I agree with this gentleman dragon, it makes it more accessible (also we get to have fun debating and reading different names and thats half the fun of the iterative threads).

List is posted in new thread. Its just copy-pasta'ed atm, I'll probably edit it a bit shortly.

Thanks for the notification, I didn't see it on my own.

The guy is an acting god. He's 5'4", middle-aged, not particularly in good shape, and can be absolutely physically terrifying.

I'm pretty sure Pesci does indeed check all of the FBS boxes.

(aside, when does the new thread open?)
