Kalinda continues to direct the gunnery crews. Even though the Apparition in Time bears no chase guns on her bow, the crew might catch the plummeting beast in time for another broadside and she wants to be ready.

Archie hangs on and steers through the incredible turbulence of such a steep dive. A loose bit of rope whips him across the face and he jerks involuntarily at the slashing injury. Even that minor tweak to the helm causes the Apparition to swerve precariously and one poor soul screams as he's thrown loose from the rigging. The unfortunate sailor seemingly falls up as he's shaken free from the Apparition's momentum and slipstream.

The ship draws slowly closer to the falling dragon and its rider. Creeping up on their descent velocity.

The Captain pulls an Alkenstari pistol from a sash around his waist and levels it at their foe. Zeph and Storms have no idea how the man intends to hit his target in the midst of all this wind and the erratic motion of the diving ship. Still, a crack of gunpowder issues from his hand. A split second later, the dragon's rider arches like his spine is full of lightning and then goes slowly limp. He is pulled unceremoniously and clumsily from his saddle and streams behind the falling dragon, held by nothing but the leather strap of his riding harness.

The dragon, feeling the death of its rider, suddenly shifts. It shrinks quickly from the size of a bull elephant to the size of a horse. Then to the size of a man. Its wings disappear and its riding harness slips off, sending the attached corpse of the rider spinning into the wind. The dragon takes the shape of a man and stabilizes its fall with its arms, splaying itself and quickly rising through the air to let the Apparition dive past it.

Lictor Mournholdt shouts orders back to the helm while tossing another shadowy lance at the quickly retreating dragon. The lance of darkness misses and the dragon makes a rude gesture as he slowly continues his relative ascent.

Zeph looks at the symbol carved into the iron mask and remembers some obscure scrap of planar lore he ready while studying at the Arcanamirium. Something about the Outer Gods? Maybe the Great Old Ones? He's fairly certain that this symbol has some meaning to those mad cultists who watch the places between the stars, but he's unsure as to the specifics.

When Zeph looks at the corpse through his third eye, he's shocked to see lines of power running all over the man. Like the ship, this man has hundreds of specific magical points apparently running beneath his clothes. Most of them look to be utilizing the Abjuration school of magic.

The magic woven into these tattoos seems to be dwindling now that their wearer has died, but when they were active they protected him from the intense cold and suffocating lack of oxygen at high altitudes. He may have even been able to survive the vacuum of space for a short while! Additionally, they seem to have a failsafe fall protection woven into their design, allowing the rider to fall safely from a great height.

The language is completely arcane to Zeph. He's never seen it before.

Sko - this man, will keep for the time being. It's a fine suggestion, getting the Pharasmin clergy to help us interrogate him. I'll tell the Captain."

"I heard it." The Captain calls over the crowd. "I agree we should question him. But, I think it might be too delicate to involve the Church of the Lady of Graves. Officers, make your way to my ready room after you've seen to your duties. Storms-as-he-Walks, Zephyr. You two as well." He sounds angry. Rageful, actually.

Judging by the reaction of Kalinda unable to tear her gaze away from the corpse's face, and Captain's use of the word traitorous, Zeph feels its a safe assumption that the rider is former crew of the Apparition.

The patterns of magic on his skin did bear a strange resemblance to how hull of the Apparition is woven together.... Throki could probably understand how the magic is interconnected...but he wouldn't have great expertise with how its incorporated into a person. Maybe Abu?

Given the reaction of the Captain, these are dangerous questions not to be asked on the deck of the ship. He'll wait for the meeting to share his meager conclusions.

The officers give orders to take off and maintain a hover while their main engineer is still under the ministrations of the doctor.

Eventually, the corpse of the dragon rider is moved into the Captain's ready room and Kalinda, Mournholdt, Alessia, and Gent all stand around the table, looking at the corpse and the back of their irate Captain as he rummages through a sea chest stuffed with what seems to be random bits of junk. Qadiran silk scarves, leather pistol holsters, a glass eye; all are tossed over the Captain's shoulder as he searches through the chest.

Zeph, Storms, and Scar-eye stand with the officers.

Finally the Captain pulls out a small glass vial that holds a single pinkie bone. It's tied to a leather thong and the Captain grunts in half-triumph, half-frustration as he pulls it from the chest.

Zeph's completely in the dark as to what the little wondrous item might accomplish. He watches, fascinated, as the Captain holds the little reliquary by the leather cord, dangling it over the corpse's face. He intones gravely words in a dark tongue, closing his eyes and letting the words echo and fill the too-large space of his ready room.

When he stops, nothing happens. For a long minute, not one person in the room makes a sound.

Then the corpse takes a sharp gurgling gasp and spits seawater into the air. "Blarglhspaaa!"

The captain leans in close to the corpse, whose eyes are still a milky white.

    "Hello, Sköll. Welcome home."

The corpse immediately begins to thrash on the table before being restrained by master Gent and Kelinda.

The Captain look between his officers and his two new crewmen. "He's alive. Well, undead technically, but alive enough to question. Ask what you can while you can. He'll be dust by dawn."

The Captain wraps the cordage of the reliquary around his hand before tossing the little item back into his seachest.

"Master Leornian. You're a diviner, aren't you? Divine this scallywag's purpose for coming back to his old crew and attempting to slaughter them atop a bloody void dragon. Ought to be interesting. Storms, you're welcome to question him as well, but if he tries anything violent, smash his bloody brains out with that bloody great hammer."
