Good choice. Phoenix vs Shapeshifter on a neutral square feels a lot like a game of TicTacToe. Or a Global Thermonuclear War. Or a discussion in the Internet.

    This!

Its clearly superior, and my kids have become big fans of it as well so I've gotten a lot of practice.

Imean, you guys are allowed to be wrong.

For reals, though, nothing beats odds and evens. Simple, elegant, doesn't ever tie, and can be played with more than two people.

Russian Roulette is the best way to break ties. The trick is to play with a semi-automatic pistol and always choose to move second.

(Kids, don't try this at home. Or anywhere, actually).

Forget about rock or paper. Scissors alone can cut most ties with little effort.

If by "Phoenix vs Shapeshifter on a neutral square" you mean "Archon", then yes: It's all great fun, unless/until someone intentionally makes a move that drags the whole thing to a standstill, potentially harming relationships outside the context of the game itself. (A lot of the changes/additions in Archon Classic are...questionable; but at least the Phoenix changes makes this scenario attrition rather than virtual stalemate)

So...I would apologize for commenting on a tangent, but I've been beaten to the punch. But is no one else wondering how Eric managed to go to the LG after life? It's something fully fledged adults have troubles with, and yet a baby managed to pass the tests? Or as a baby is he just attached to his parental figures?

    Or...Is that not actually Eric?

If you really need an answer, let's say that babies go wherever their mother is/will go, because of the psychic umbilical cord that stretches through the Uterine Plane. When you get older and determine your own alignment, marauding githyanki doctors with special silver clamps cut the cord. Because why not?

And since people have mentioned how creeped out they are about the fact that Eric doesn't ever get to grow up, let's say that when everyone who knew him in life gets over their baggage about his death and ascends higher up the mountain, he either reincarnates or grows up or something. I don't know what. Something. Whatever doesn't creep you out. Again, not important to the story.

Peelee, I just saw Uterine Plane and I am not sure if that's real. On second thought, I don't want to know.

Never saw that quote before, but I'm just going to assume that young children are connected to their parents (hence why adulthood rituals are so important) and that in time, once their parents and other family have accepted their loss can grow up to be celestials or something because now I worry for little Kudzu.

Wow, I really liked that. I mean, most cultures have some kind of ritual that marks the passage from childhood to adulthood, and what if such rituals have some supernatural/free will meaning? What if, before such ritual, the infants have no option in their afterdeath plane, and go to their parents plane (and maybe their get stuck in the door, if they aren't fit)? That's an interesting theme for a series of adventures.
