Prosperity may not be an expert pipbuck repair pony, but she could tell that part of the case had hit something hard and wasn't lined up with the other half of the case. With just a bit of force, she pushed the case together, where it made a 'click' sound. That seemed to put everything right. The pipbuck turned on a booted up. On the screen was,

"Good afternoon, Doctor Nikobray. You have 1 new message(s)."


Apogee and Perigee watched with excitement to see that the pipbuck was working. Apogee said, "Wow! I knew it! I knew you could figure that out!"

Perigee added, "Are you looking for work? You can keep the pipbuck if you help us in our research."

Apogee jumps in delight. She takes out a small notebook from her saddlebag. "Great! My sister and I have been working on a new book. It's a survival guide for people who are traveling around the wasteland. We're not very good at that, but we have taken a lot of notes from ponies who come through town and *I* think, you'd be a great candidate for our main piece."

Perigee nods. "Yes. There are a few places out there you could visit and bring back things for us. The order in which you visit them is not important. Our top three places are a Hunting Lodge to find weapons, an old grocery store to find food, and a Bus station to find fuel. Any of those sound interesting to you?"

Perigee pulls out a piece of paper with a drawn map on it. "Okay you want to head West to the ruins of a city. When you're there, look for a building called the Super Duper Mart. We'd like you to find some food items and bring them back for study. Take notes if you can! We want to know how hard it is to find anything, what the place smells like, stuff like that."

Apogee nods. "It shouldn't be dangerous. You might see a stray animal, but you can usually scare those off with noises or throwing rocks their way. I mean, not like throw rocks to hurt them. Just scare them away."

Grandma Sands holds up some weapons. "Would you like to take a gun with you? You have a sword, right? Never hurts to have something in case you need to kill a bird. Never too early to start your own beak collection."

The twins look at her collection and they both seem fascinated.

(Prosperity can write notes in the Pipbuck. The map, light, and radiation tools on the Pipbuck work fine. The other functions seem locked for a reason. The last owner had modified this Pipbuck, but it will take some studying to figure it out).

Apogee and Perigee both look surprised and both quietly pick up pencils to take notes.

The audio message plays. You hear the recording of a young and very nervous stallion:

"Dr. Nikobray,

This is your lab assistant, Beaker. I need to tell you that Dr. Neighselov left the stable last night. He took the GECK project with him so that the Overmare couldn't stop us. You have to escape as soon as you can. Don't use the main door, the Overmare is sure to have guards there waiting for you. There is another way out of the Stable. In the garden, open the second air vent in the ceiling and crawl through. You'll find a hole in the pipe that will lead you to the cave where the main door normally goes to. From there you can escape outside with us. We're going to hide in a small town nearby for you. I don't know the name, but Dr. Neighselov said there's a building with a big red rocket in front of it. Go there. We have to succeed with the GECK project. It'll fix everything. Good luck."

Apogee jumped up and down. "It's a mystery recording! I wonder what the GECK project is? Peri, we should do some research!"

Perigee nods. "We'll look in our books. Go ahead and visit that Super Duper Mart, then come back here and we'll compare science."

Red looked confused. "I don't think that's how you use the word 'science'."

The twins left back to their store to see if they had info on the project. This left Prosperity with Red.

Red sighs and checks her gun. "Well, you ready to go to this store?"

"I guess..." Prosperity is a bit relucantant. Usually she told others what to do.. but now she is actually going to do.. things.

Red seems to understand Prosperity's reluctance. "Hey, cheer up. Maybe we'll be there and back before Doc and Greeda returns, then you can show that ugly goat that you can get a quest done without her help!"

Granny gives Prosperity a saddlebag. Inside is some old, but still good carrots and baked potatoes. "Here, a proper lady needs a healthy snack for the trip." She gives Red a bag with food too.

(Prosperity can add Saddlebag and 1day of food to her inventory).

The map and notes Prosperity took are pretty accurate. They leave town and follow a dirt trail that goes down the hill towards the large ruins of some kind of city.

It looked like the city suffered a riot and then was abandoned. Buildings stood quiet, their windows all smashed long ago. Old cars were burned out or flipped upside down.

Luckily, Prosperity can see the Super Duper Mart near the edge of town. From this distance, it looks like there's someone standing outside the entrance.

"Well.. I think I'l say hello, but Red.. be prepared... if things aren't going wel.' Prosperity said, and decided to greet the stranger.

Red was ready to fight if the stranger attacked.

The stranger didn't respond to Prosperity. He didn't even move. Once prosperity got close enough, she could see that it was a life-sized puppet, made from the skin of a real pony. It looked real from far away, but up close you can see the stitches and wires holding it together.

Was this meant as a warning? Or to scare off others?

Red almost threw up too. She looked away from the body. "That's disgusting," the whispered. "What sick pony or griffon would do that?"

Prosperity found the cutie mark. It's a shield with a horseshoe over it. Maybe they were a guard or police pony? It seems like the point of doing this was to scare away everyone from this store.

She happy Doc didn't seen her throwing her up.

"I see.' She prepared her own gun.
"Well... I am not one to let bullies dictate what we do. But let's first search around, if we have more clues.'

"No offense, but the nice old lady is kind of creepy too," Red said. "If we can get our own house, we should."

Looking around the outside of the store, Prosperity can see trash everywhere, but there is one interesting thing: all the broken store windows are boarded up. None of the other buildings on this block are like that.

At the corner of the building is a large red box machine that says 'Sparkle Cola'. There is a faded purple unicorn cartoon under the words. The machine has a light on, and it's plugged in to the building. Power?

Prosperity pushed the door open. There IS electricity here--a few of the Super Duper Mart's lights were on, giving dim, but enough light to see the mess inside. Store shelves littered with trash were everywhere. There was another pile with pieces of bones, though Prosperity couldn't tell from what animal. There were these metal cart things on small wheels everywhere too.

She could hear two voices from a section of the store called the 'harmacy'. Because she knew Doc, she could tell it was meant to say 'Pharmacy'. Where drugs would be stored.

Voice 1: "I hope the others get back soon, I'm starving."

Voice 2: "But you finished off that stallion's leg like an hour ago?"

Voice 1: "Yeah, but he was too skinny. Wish there was a place with fat ponies we could cook."


Prosperity's hoof accidentally hits a glass bottle. It fell over and made a loud CLINK sound as it rolled away.

Voice 1: "Sounds like they're back!"

Voice 2: "Great, I call dibs on the back legs this time!"

Two earth ponies are coming out of the pharmacy area. They're wearing trash and old clothes with spikes on them. The stallion is bald, and the mare her hair a messy nest. Red looks ready to just attack unless Prosperity has a plan?

"Red, DONT focus on my voice.' She has wishpered, and she started tk sing looking at the female. She imagined her fillies. And tried to imagine the cannibal.. as a filly.

She sang the lullaby with deep emotion and tears of missing her children..

The mare picks up a knife. "No, but they look tasty!"


The two charge to attack Prosperity and Red.

Prosperity's magic hits the mare center chest. She looks badly hurt and very angry.

"Oh you'll pay for that!" she threatens. She jumps at Prosperity with her dagger.

The stallion tries to hit Red again. It looks like he wants to bite her too. Maybe chew on her leg.

Red feels inspired and takes aim at the stallion that wants to eat her for dinner.

Mare attacking Prosperity:
