Best damage output ever was a wizard using circle magic to pump out a few thousand d6s of fire damage a round. Not sure what happened to the wizards boards or I'd find it for you.

Edit: I hear that artificers with the proper feats (empower, split ray, and so on) and a wand of an orb spell (complete arcane) are pretty rediculous. The down side is that youl drain a wand in 10 shots or so.
