At first I thought it was a joke. She was late, because the plan foresaw that they would be brought to the chamber and instead spent that time being brought somewhere else.

On the other side, she doesn't have super senses, does she? And they are inside. So she did need to find out where to go, and following the hallways and blasting a hole in them here and there to take a look around doesn't sound like a bad idea.

About the stances, well, there are a few, complete with names and everything, even in the real world. I think it's OK (as a deliberate caricature) that the leader of the murder cult is so obsessed with them that she can tell your story from how you shoot.

I am actually enjoying this. It's silly as hell, but that's probably the best you can do with a silver age epigone. Plus, the good guys are self-managing, they aren't under someone else's orders. Burke and Danica may be getting somewhere. Overall, leaving space was a nice idea.

I'll bet they are morons who teach to hold a pistol sideways "gangster style".

Either this, or she managed to recognize it's not their style since Grex actually managed to HIT her targets.

I'm sure it's nothing a space band aid can't fix though.

More seriously, I'm pretty sure those are the baddies flying through the air.
Because Grex and the nameless extra just got atomised.

I love when her costume inexplicably makes her look mostly naked. Its such fun doing a double take as you go, "Wait huh?!" I imagine the conversation behind the design team,

"Ok, make sure to cover her arms legs and waist. There, I think thats enough."

    "Wait, what about the torso?"

"Meh, how important is that really? Leave it out."

"Well can we at least cover up their crotch?"

"What the heck is a crotch? Nah, whatever it is, leave it uncovered, the arms legs and waist are what matters. Oh wait, almost forgot, she has to be barefoot. You dont need shoes in space, what, is she gonna stub her toe on the vacuum? BWAHAHA!"

You know, this seems like a situation where time is of the essence, and this guy's wasting a lot of it by specifically referring to each group. He could have simply said, "Everyone! Kill her!" and saved those precious seconds. Or, even better, just a simple, "Kill her!" would suffice.

Something I just noticed: wasn't Grex the one with the gun?
I mean, yeah, she could've given detective guy hers, but when he's telling her to go after the Cult leader he's already shooting.

The obvious problem here is that apparently the invincibility of Starpower is not widely enough known, or these guys are too dumb to realize going for Grex and the PI is a smarter move to buy time.

Or maybe they're just confident in their abilities. I mean, sure, she's single-handedly defeated entire armies and ended planetary wars, but she's never had to deal with a room full of assassins before.

But they were ordered to kill Starpower, not the random fake acolytes.
And not following your orders gets you dead. (Or not following them entusiastically enough or in the exact way your superior expected, but didn't state them to be carried out...)

Yes, but: The original Star Powered Sentinels were Scintillians. Maybe their crotches were on the arms and legs and waist! Also the engineers had a foot fetish.

The Star Power is operated by an adaptive and learning AI. Presumably, it automatically customizes the suit's appearance based on body shape.

There is also a matter of ego.
You take a room of wannabe assassins, tell them "here is the greatest target, take her!", as least some would think that the rest of the galaxy are chumps and only REAL assassins like them can do it, some others will be dragged along without thinking, and the rest will remember that assassins who don't at least try get the sharp end of the knife.

Of course, some assassins would remember that their profession involves more about taking the target at THEIR terms (ambush, long distance, weapon matching the target, traps, whatever else), but after Bullet Bill, I kind of gave up and I just assume that the word "assassin" in this galaxy translates to "run into the target while screaming"

Has Grex just killed the poor woman?
    What happened to stunning?

Also, really? That easy? I almost hope this is a trick the Cult leader used to buy herself time and Grex just shot a innocent distraction.
Or a inflatable Extavo puppet, Smokeknight style

More importantly, why does she have a gun again?
Did she put it away for running off the battlefield?
And if the detective had a gun the entire time, why the boxing stance against the assassin's?

That's the problem with Star Power. Everyone tries to kill her with tried (and failed) methods, and no one goes for some slightly lateral thinking. What about "room filled with gaseous poison"? What about "poison her food?" What about "go for her while in human form?"

The only people who seemed to know what to do were the Duchess (who had the right weapon AND a device that could kill the Star Power in her) and the Void Angels, who actually snuffed out all other Sentinels (maybe by hitting them before they were transformed). Which makes sense in-universe, but means that the threat level in the comic is constantly going down.

Now sure, the Mafia generally doesn't attack aircraft carriers, but now that she's stomping organised crime all over, maybe the rest of crime in the galaxy would try to hire, circumvent, or kill her.

Yup, this is the sort of scene that would make sense if she had been a powerful henchman of someone else, an important obstacle, but not the final target. It's the kind of timing this comic has always fought against (except the first issue, which I found very well-timed back then).
Instead, we know that there are some corrupt cops, but they have ended up helping the kidnapped, if with the wrong methods and for the wrong reasons.

What bugs me is the total lack of surprise combined with the total lack of foreshadowing of the holographic tech. Like, the way this would normally work is grex falls for the hologram and gets winged by the killer boss lady, then the game of cat and mouse happens until grex lures her into a trap by pretending to buy the hologram but actually guessing where she is. This skipped over all of that. Somehow grex knows this is an illusion despite not seeing any illusions being used at any point.

I wouldn't call a slightly longer fight with a actually competent enemy* "filler".
The spineapple pizza incident on the other hand…

*I mean, not that there ever was a actually challenging foe, but getting taken out by 1/5 of the Sidekick Squad in a single panel is a new low.

A longer action scene in an action comic is not filler. That is, in fact, the entire point of the comic.

There's still five pages, so I wonder how they will be used.

Just people looking around and getting mushy?

The main story finally connecting with the bad policemen?

Was it really a double or triple illusion, and the boss is still alive?
