Maybe the tree is so angry because it's having a bad trip. It is a tree that grows from the dirt of the wild edge, after all. Who knows what he is seeing.

There is movement implied. The tree was aiming for Snout's legs that rested on the bark. Snout moves his legs up and only hangs on his hands.

That. And i can imagine the tree actually has a pretty bad aim this close.
Likely 99% of things are dead before they get within reach of the trunk.

Else, actually i think this tree is hilariously angry

If a cat jumped on to your leg, and you tried to knock it off, what chance do you think you'd have of just missing? Real life doesn't operate on attack rolls. The only way you're not going to hit is if the cat moves.

Now, Snout did move in this instance, which I didn't notice, but I'm going to attribute that to the poor art. If the tree was actually drawn consistently from panel to panel, then his position on it would be easier to notice.

So again, repeat the same joke and hope for the same results.

Also, if the tree would extend a sharp branch directly instead of this stupid middle finger, it would impale poor hanging Snout.

A valid comparison if Snout was jumping on a giant humanoid.
He isnt. The anatomy is different, i doubt bark is as sensitive as skin.
And so the comparison doesnt fit.

So is the tree dead from self stabbery? Or did it just run out of branches because they are all stuck so he better hurry and grab his resin before they break free?

The tree is about five times taller than Snout. That is a roughly equivalent comparison to a cat and a human.

The tree can feel the vibrations of foot steps through multiple feet of earth. It is clearly more sensitive than skin.

I'm not arguing if it is possible to avoid the tree the way Snout did.
But considering he does not have super agility or any unique climbing/dodging skills, how serious was the tree as a threat to begin with?

That's pretty much a recurring question in all of Mookie's stories.
A threat is built up to be something serious, then someone just overcomes it in a few panels, sometimes without the protagonist even TRYING to overcome the threat.
We've seen in in the regular Friday cliffhangers in DD, we've seen it in villains like Black Hole Bill in Star Power, and it's at least the second time here when we just started the story.

Thats proportions. They are roughly equivalent. But its not the same.

Yes the roots are clearly extremely sensitive to vibrations.
But it seems the bark of the trunk isnt. Likely because almost nothing survives getting this close.

So we finally got to see the more or less full paragraph, with the damaged buts being easy enough to figure out. Next step is to find more pages! Also, I forget, is he still looking for ink witch? Or has he dismissed her entirely in favor of his scholarly adventures?

I think there is only one page left.

It's not really a book as much as... A scroll for someone with very thick glasses?

My guess is that after the last page Stinks will explain what it actually is, and we'll follow DD steps in that dream realm place.

Is it weird if I'm expecting there to be only one more page with just one giant word? With the word in question being TRUTH and this whole thing being nothing more than a callback to Dominic's, "See the truth!"

Meh I can understand why, iirc he established right off the bat that snout is pretty obsessed with DD and learning about him. Tossing an extra mystery involving a missing person onto the pile makes it that much harder to justify shrugging and moving on. After all, aside from bowel loosening terror, he hasnt actually been hurt by his adventures (yet) so once the adrenaline fades he likely puts less emphasis on the horror he endured. What im waiting on is the reveal of why this is so freaking important. Why this sentient ink spell is helping gather these pages and what it has to do with the ink witch and the ink ship.

I don't think it was established properly.
In the first time he was mentioned in his diary, it appears it's just a name he recognized from books he liked, but didn't even know who DD was.

Even if it started as a coincidence (because of course it did), there were ways to properly show he is obsessed.
Bounce it off another character, style of movies like national treasure or Indiana Jones: "Oh, looking for THAT again? Aren't you tired of dead ends?"
In the case of Snout, even showing that he has the books in his home instead of the library could do some to contribute to that since he has so little property.

The only reason we consider him obsessed is because the actions he took AFTER the witch was gone, but these are exactly the actions I'm questioning.

As for missing person, who is missing?
DD is probably dead, even if there is a mystery involving him, and the witch was taken somewhere safe by the ship she was looking for.

The danger is another repeating problem I'm raising often here (probably too often...), I'm not sure if any of the dangers were supposed to be taken seriously or as a joke.
If the intention was to present a danger and the comic failed to deliver this, then Snout IS facing actual danger.

So add the fact that he has no place to live, didn't know who DD was and just knows about some mystery, pushed into what is supposed to be real danger without any motivation from his side, then yes, I think I do need to question his priorities.

As for the mystery itself, why are the pages so important, who attacked the witch in the first place (or was it one of the harmless dangers in the area), and why use the fake spell, I'll admit I'm a bit curious (mostly for the comments after the reveal), but I'm investing about 10 minutes a week for this comic, if anyone told me he's leaving his home to seek the answers I'd question his sanity

PLACE your bets people! I got the best odds on the page just sitting in a wide open totally safe (looking) area. Yes I used the term looking because I fully expect something dangerous to happen when he walks up to the piece of paper casually sitting in a flat spot on the empty ground.

Slightly worse odds are it actually is a safe spot.

Slightly worse than that its an absurdly over the top deadly area that makes it look like the previous two areas combined are a walk in the park. Im picturing enraged giant monsters, bubbling cauldrons of acidic lava randomly spurting everywhere, and some odd magic where lethal exploding spikes fall from the skies like rain drops only to regenerate and fall again!
