Just write it, I guarantee most people will understand.

After all, writing normally is sarcasm that is not sarcasm, sarcasm that is just beyond sarcasm (after you turn left at boredom).

Standard writing style of pseudospiritual gobbledegook, so Mookie did a fantastic job of sticking to the genre and style. I commend him.

Would be nice if that's what it is.

I'm not sure, I read it as confused faces (especially the witch), edit: as for the rest, it's more like dull surprise
But it could just be me, projecting my own thoughts...

The book that seemingly has only one page did sort of direct them to the city of five gates, so I guess that could count as some sort of progress.
I'll be happy if they just leave the silly wild zone.

Maybe the multiple paths are the disagreement between the ink witch and the orc?

Although I must say that the vibe I get from the "order" side combined with what Traab said in the previous update about the use of the word "filth", seems to make the order side kind of... a-holes?
Hard to say if it's intentional at this point.

Thats my reading. "There are many ways to reach the realm, they each start with one of these steps." Kind of like, if you are an orderly type, this is the best way to get there, if you are a chaotic type, you will get there this way. If your mother was a dryad born on the second tuesday of smarch (lousy smarch weather) you can get there like this.

Yes, we get it, Snout is confused.
I'm more curious to find out if the witch and the orc are just as baffled as he is, or do they at least get something useful out of it.
(Hopefully, something they can summarize in one line that does not contradict itself)

Yep. Frankly, I'd bet that Airduck and Ink Witch probably already know more about DD and the current situation than what Snout's diary contains. Probably the only thing of potential value in there are the entries about Snout's dreams, and even then I doubt it'll help much.

That is the most realistic scene in all of Mookie's writing. A young, enthusiastic writer gives his novel to an editor and expects him to be blown away. And then he meets reality. Next, he will give up writing and dreams, get a decently paid, yet boring, job as accountant to pay for house and family and realizes in his mid to late 30s that his soul is empty and he threw away his life.

If it was a novel, or something dedicated to amateur research, I'd fully agree.
But it's his personal diary, and he only began to care about DD about a week ago, maybe two weeks top.
He forgot that his own diary contains MAYBE 5 pages about DD and the rest is just personal stuff?

I tend to be more forgiving here because for a change, the art did manage to express his emotions, and his excitement is somewhat understandable, but the fact that he went to the this grand adventure for something he never really cared about is something that keeps coming up.

Could be more useful if you write what she is lying about, but I guess annoying us and dragging this feud longer is the core of this chapter.

Also, the questions about Arudak were written on a different page, not in the journal, but whatever.

Snout could have copied them to the journal. This isn't something worth being nitpicky about.

Agreed, he is keeping a recording of everything he is learning and any questions that pop up in his journal. Its totally acceptable that he would have copied it down there afterwards. Better than carrying around several sheaves of paper from a dozen different sources and having to keep track of them all.

Anyone else think mookie is messing with the unreliable narrator trope as a major part of the story? Now we have two strongly contradictory versions of what each side is up to. And it looks like another magical fist fight is about to break out.

Meh. I don't think either side can be trusted.
Both Arudak and the Ink Witch are trying to use Snout to their own ends.
And I'm almost expecting that it turns out he was manipulating them all along.

I don't remember everything I've said in this thread, but this could be a first. I know I've complimented Star Power a couple times, but this might be the first time I'm saying that I genuinely like something happening in this comic. The way that Mookie is playing with Ink Witch and Aardvark is honestly quite good. I don't know who, if either, can be trusted.

Note: This isn't really "unreliable narrator," though, as the narrative is told from Snout's perspective. So, he's our narrator, not the other two. So far, there's been nothing to indicate that what we're seeing is not what's happening.
