I see something odd with the website.

The homepage shows me a much blurrier image than the one in the archived post.

It's the resolution. If you reduce the font size or just view the image the blur disappears.

Another week and we might start figuring out whats going on. Until then, snout gets to snuggle with yet another passed out naked woman. I was wondering when that would happen again. Dudes a chick magnet apparently.

Or he is the opposite; he is sexually non-threatening and that relaxes women around him. He has animalistic features, so maybe that makes women threat him more like a pet.

So, she can't answer? Doesn't know what to answer? can't read or write at all? Doesn't know how to use the magical brush that sometimes acts like a pen?

Either illiterate or doesnt feel chatty. Im starting to wonder if she is even a real girl seeing as she has plant abilities. Like this was an attempt by the vine thing to create sentient humanoid life and its worked, but now that she isnt a part of the vines she doesnt know whats going on.

Maybe she's crying all over the pages and trying to wipe them away, thus destroying Snout's text before she can read it.

Well this is a complete 180. Trying to kill Snout and tear up his diary one moment, calming sitting next to him and (attempting) conversing with him the next. I understand that she was lashing out from emotion, but they're both acting like the last couple pages just didn't happen. This is not coherent storytelling.

Right now I feel more annoyed than anything else.

I really thought the story was over.
And it's not just me wanting it to be over (although I must admit I did), everything in the story was built in this way: The cabin collapsed leaving nothing behind and the corpse turned to dust to prevent wasting time trying to carry him all the way back to the city.
So just when I was willing to get to the finish line without understanding what happened, a naked woman pulled me Snout backwards by the neck so things can be explained.
Note that this is not a killer coming back to life just to get a last scare before dying again, it's a character obviously meant to fill in some gaps.

Then we waste time with her emotional moment.
It happened to the wrong character (there is a reason why action movies don't get a "NOOOOOO" moment for every soldier, at the very least you have to know his name, see a picture of his family, know that he just started a new job and retiring in three days), but whatever, can we finally get to the point where the character fills its purpose?
Nope, more chances to just drag the running time.

Perhaps he can cast "summon clothing" for her? He doesnt exactly have extra outfits on him remember. They are in a flat plain with nothing he could even try to cobble together. He only has those overalls himself so if he offered them HE would be nude.

He pretty much did just that with a leaf, spiderweb and a needle from a random creature for himself, and it doesn't look like the area won't provide him whatever he needs when he wants to.

Counter prediction: They will not use these leaf blankets for clothes, and vine woman will continue being naked until they reach the next populated area, so Mookie can make a joke about it.

If it IS her trying to contact him, it sort of makes weird sense.
He was lied to by a person that he hardly knew, so what better way to ask for a rescue than boobs?
Although some information like where she is could be useful.

Regardless, I really have problems calling all of this week comics "updates".
Other than "all right, you like to draw nude, we get it" even if it had significance it still feels like a waste of time.

And seriously, is he competing with Game of Thrones?

Good lord celestia, you seem to have a SERIOUS hate for everything in this comic lately. Everything needs to get the worst interpretation possible so you can deride it unmercifully. It even contradicts you in this comic as he considers her at best a traveling companion and hasnt even decided yet what to do about her. I would HOPE any decent human being wouldnt go. "Hmm, horrifically traumatized naked woman with odd plant abilities and no way to communicate and no idea if she is physically ok even? Lets leave her all alone in the wilderness while she is a broken sobbing wreck." But maybe thats just me and you think thats an acceptable way to act?

I just realized that if she cant read, she likely doesnt realize snout cant hear her. Its entirely likely she thinks he is a jerk who is ignoring the heck out of her for no real reason. It looks like she is trying to yell something at him in todays comic. "YOU STOIC BUGGER! ANSWER ME! IS THIS SAFE TO EAT?! HEY! THATS MINE!"

I wonder what her role in the story is.

Best case scenario: An actual option to practice non-verbal communication.

Worst case scenario: She will appear naked in the first attempt to contact the ink witch only for Snout to write "I can explain" or "it's not what you think".
Then she will find an excuse to leave the story, like a hospital or whatever in the same town.


Also, how far is the next town anyway?
The geography was never clear in DD and was based on convenience more than anything else.
According to the name of the new chapter he will get there soon, maybe one week of travel montage.
Either that, or it will start raining books in the next updates.

Yeah im actually starting to think she is only barely human, maybe child like, in mentality. Like, even if we could hear what she is saying it wouldnt amount to much in the way of coherency. I mean, she was smart enough to figure out how to climb the tree to get the food, but not smart enough to understand how to get at the tasty part inside. She still clearly has no concept of her nudity being an issue either which also points to the less than adult female level of intellect. Maybe its a side effect of what the plant monster did to her. Maybe its that her creation was interrupted by snout before she could achieve full sentience? Maybe she is just an angry nudist that was really hungry?

I mean, yeah, in real life it probably wouldn't be that easy, but a plant evolving to have easy to eat makes sense.

Makes perfect sense to me. Easily opened fruit means the seed can fall out and plant itself through the efforts of animals to get at the tasty part. Thats the kind of thing evolution would certainly favor as that type of tree would be spreading far and wide due to the ease of future seeds falling. They would crowd out trees where the fruit isnt so easily opened by growing there first and eventually only those who drop seeds the fastest would survive.
