    New comic?

I'm having a pretty strong feeling of deja vu here...
    Was this uploaded before?

    No, no, it's completely different.
This time it's an adult woman probably with a mind of a child.
He also didn't rescue her as much as she rescued him.
And in this case it's not really "doesn't know her name" as much as "doesn't have a name to begin with".

But never mind that, we have another (naked) dream sequence.
Let's see if my bet about meeting the ink witch and a comical reaction of "I can explain" will happen.

No Snout, don't listen to the random pages.
You don't know who wrote them. Might be a trap.
And anyway, no-one who could be behind this is even remotely trustworthy.

So now mega dong needs rescuing and snout is his only hope? Thank goodness they mostly made up before he got captured. Even if snout is looking a little short for a storm trooper in this comic.

I can never watch Star Wars again...

Also, can't anyone in this world dream clothes?

Hehehehehe. As for the no clothes, aside from our favorite authors obsession with nudity, I figure its probably justified with some sort of "You appear here as you are, no trappings allowed" or some such thing. Megadong is larger than snout because he is seriously powerful presumably. Or maybe its an aspect of him guiding this dream vision thing.

He could just be smarter. Remember Dominic making Karnak look action-figure sized, because the size in the mindscape depends on cerebral power?

Or he wanted to write down the details of his dream while they were fresh. Dreams tend to fade quickly if you can remember them at all. So he pulled up his overalls, grabbed his notebook, and wrote down his dream and what he thinks it is about, then mentioned the ongoing issue of a missing partner. Thats hardly some odd order of operations.

    It's a matter of priorities.
Looking for a missing companion that might very well be completely lost in the world, while in a weird wilderness.
Or recording a dream that gave no information other than "different style", about something that was never more than curiosity to begin with.

This also isnt the first time she has been out of sight. She isnt an infant he needs to hold by the hand, attempts to teach reading and writing notwithstanding. These dream visions on the other hand are directly related to his goals of finding out more about deegan and finding the ink with and whatever his name is. Taking a minute to write down the info he has now is hardly going to keep him from looking for her if he needs to. I know people like to put down the motivation here but its important enough for him to uproot himself and go exploring a dangerous world so of course writing down the new info is very important to him.

Of course everything is fine, but that's mostly because Mookie couldn't keep tension for more than a page if his life depended on it.
But theoretically speaking, the wild zone is supposed to be a very dangerous and random place.
Just think of what surrounded Snout's house: a tree that kills you with spikes, a valley with a monster, and some other things all within walking distance.
The first thing she did alone was climb naked on a tree and eat an unrecognizable fruit. It was not edible in the way she tried, but it could have been poisoned or worse.

I don't think being careful in an unknown terrain is the same as babysitting or hand holding a child.
Imagine you are in a guide in a forest or a swamp, there are some simple rules that you need to follow like where not to walk or what not to eat, and you would certainly need to be more careful with someone you cannot communicate with.

Just think about Snout's morning: He woke up, saw that his companion is gone, got dressed, wrote in his journal, and only THEN took a peek outside to check if she's there...

Replacing the line in the journal with something as simple as "I can see my companion outside, better check if she's okay" would fix everything, it's not like not knowing where she is for one update contributed anything other than making him look like an A-hole.

I honestly think you are putting a little too much responsibility on snout here. They arent friends, he doesnt know much of anything about her. She had a super strong fit, then cried and now she is tagging along for no known reason and an undetermined length of time. And after yesterday he isnt going to freak out about her being gone as its likely she is nearby or decided to go off and do whatever she wants.

I don't think I'm asking for the moon when I'm saying he should take a peek from the window for three seconds before writing in his damn journal.

But more than that, if she DOES actually go missing, I think he should at least invest a couple of hours looking for her before giving up and going alone.
Not because he is obligated to do so, just because it's the right thing to do.

Think about it this way: He had zero reasons to enter the cavern under the house. No obligation, no idea about the timeline so no way to know if there was anyone alive down there.
The moral justification was that there MIGHT be someone who is still alive down there, so he rolled his eyes, annoyed the DM is railroading him there, and entered the cavern.

Later, he had zero obligations to help this woman who just attacked him, and was obviously stronger than him.
Yet he did so, out of basic decency, which I agree was the right thing to do.

But now, when we know for sure there is someone who is alive, and we also know that she can't really manage in an environment she knows nothing about, NOW is the time to say it's okay to ditch her if it's too much effort?
And again, not asking for anything more than what he was doing anyway. Does it really take more effort to take a look outside than to teach her the alphabet?

Im not saying he should ditch her, im saying that he doesnt need to feel like he has to drop everything to go hunting for her rather than take 2 minutes to write down his dream info first considering this is the first info he has gotten as a lead since he got knocked out and the ink witch was taken. As near as we can tell they are still in the middle of nowhere. Either she is nearby or she has taken off, neither are something he needs to panic over. Her not being there isnt an emergency.

Speaking of which, what DID he learn from this dream? (other than "orc has big dong")

He did get that there are several ways to use dreams to communicate (woohoo I guess?), but even that was information he got indirectly.
Arduak contacted with him yet said nothing of any importance.
We don't know if he is being held somewhere or released after being captured, don't know the fate of the ink witch, don't know what actually happened in Mongreltown, but the most important thing he had to say is that he will help Snout with his DD quest, and even that was with a "to be continued"?

I'd say that's an obvious trap if it wasn't for the weird priorities all over the story.

It sounds like there may be another page hunt to go on. Unless that was just for the dream itself. Maybe there will be more page dreams with info on them. Its entirely possible this is the most subtle magical method he has to sneak by whoever is holding him captive. But it also represents hope. He isnt just wandering aimlessly, he might get more of a guide on where to go next.

I have to wonder if this is a good thing, at least from a storyteller perspective.

Snout is a very passive protagonist.
It seems that things just happen around him, while he rarely makes any decision or action that influences the events beyond "going with the flow".

In the few times he DOES make a plan, it becomes pointless when a solution just pops up from a different direction.

Twice already he planned on going somewhere to get a book.
First time he prepared a list of five libraries, only to find that specific book in a random town's porn shop.
The second time, he planned on getting a book about dreams so he can contact the ink witch, and now the orc just pops out and will probably make it pointless.

Snout will probably get a new lead or direction soon enough, but so far it feels like everything was just given to him on a silver platter.
He is not much a protagonist as much as the main character in a walking simulator, or a narration tool to connect between short stories.

    ---

    Update

if I'm not mistaken, that's the first time he actually got hurt.
