Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
If this is Snout's dreamscape, how were they there before he went to sleep?
Anyway, it's the weekend and I'm bored, so it's time for a fan theory.
But before that, a philosophical question: Do I count as a fan beyond the very basic technical definition?
Please answer in the comments below, and don't forget to share, like and subscribe for new content when I feel like it
I think the wild-zone is a living entity with symbiotic relationship with everything and everyone in it's area.
The relationship is not like a deity and the people who believe in it, but more like a living thing and blood cells within their bodies.
The wild zone protects the living organisms in it by protecting them and supplying them with food by manipulating the environment around them and supplying any basic need they need.
There is some sort of a psychic link between the residents and the wild zone, allowing it to sort of "sense" what the needs are.
Some people like Snout, have a stronger transmitting power, so he unconsciously sends more than just basic needs but also what he wants, which is why it seems like the world around is bending to his every desire.
The wild zone helps the people who just "go with the flow", but considers most outsiders as well as people who try to abuse the environment around them as germs, sending the monsters or other harmful random events to their direction.
Some manage to survive anyway (like Mongreltown, which is a city), maybe because they are currently not a high priority or just because they just tackled the unfortunate events with skills and number of people, but given the high number of ruins around, it's only a matter of time until this city also gets destroyed by something.

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
Dream space is a timey-wimey ball?
Or, well... dreams are born from the subconsciousness.
So to a degree they might always here (there? Somewhere.), you just can't access them unless the conscious mind rests.
And if the "room" still exists it should be possible to enter it even if the owner/creator isn't occupying it right now.
Essentially those two broke in and waited for Snou to come home from work.
Or maybe I'm putting too much thought in this.
They might just have appeared the moment Snout started dreaming and immediately (re)started to fight.
That is if Mookie put any thought in this beyond "this is the scene I want".
Not sure if I want to give that much credit, considering what I've read so far."If it lives it can be killed.
If it is dead it can be eaten."

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
Update
Won't it be funny to discover that since he left home he was traveling west all the time?
And "travel east until you reach a specific structure" isn't much of a navigational advice.
Unless it's about an hour away, or has a specific yellow brick road that reaches there, it's more than likely to miss it.

I kinda hope the password needs to be spoken.

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
Also, "a gate" is not very specific. Which gate? What does it look like? There are probably at least a hundred things in the world that could be described as a "gate"
Oh, that gives me a bad feeling. I can see now a comedy routine where Snout knows the password and can't speak it while vine lady can speak the password but doesn't know it, and Snout spends several pages trying to get the vine lady to speak the password.Princess Celestia's Homebrew Corner

Acibek was the golem that stopped the Storm of Souls before Dominic. I wonder where this is going.

At first I thought that it was Arudak's name, then something clicked. Acibek actually had a very distinctive look, which helps. I googled it to confirm, and the Encyclopedia Dominica is still there.

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
Basically the wiki page for the original comic. We bash the heck out of it, but it was a surprisingly popular comic that went on for long enough that people put together a site to keep track of all the insanity. And yeah, this is one of those things thats lame as soon as you think about it, but is meant to be a vague pronouncement that becomes obvious when you see it. An almost prophetic statement that you wont understand at first but when you do make the connection its like, "Oooh!" (ideally its like that at least) In reality he will likely go right for a couple comics then trip over a gate that says, "Yer buddies held here" on the front.

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
To be honest, DD wasn't bad in the beginning. Even Sauron was not so. As long as it followed its anime/manga tropes and kept it tight, it was enjoyable. Also, never underestimate having a plot AND daily updates. Unfortunately, Mookie later packed it with questionable choices, like DD's parents being immensely powerful AND omnipresent (the one development that immediately gave me an "oh no" reaction). Even with all of the dismemberment, the comic stayed too light-spirited to handle something like Melna's rape. Add to this that the characters got quests, but stayed essentially monodimensional (except Karnak and a few more), the final arc was a hell of a slog, and we saw Dominic turn from Oracle into Hulksiah.
In short, there likely would never have been a snarkdom like today's, if the comic didn't have something going for it that allowed it to first get notoriety and a fandom. Goblins might be going the same direction, although DD had the advantage of the massive amount of material which kept us awake (and the ease of editing its strips for comic slays; someone even made a font based on Mookie's writing).Originally Posted by J.R.R. Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
No arguments here. The art sucked, but so do a lot of webcomics when they first start out. That doesn't bother me as much as it might some people. The characters were tropey and one-dimensional, but just try showing me a story that introduces a fully-fleshed out character in their first appearance. The story was virtually non-existent, but the setting gave ample room for stories to naturally sprout. In short, it wasn't great, but it had the potential to be great. It just never became great.

Update
The difference in quality between what he made himself and what he made her is painful.
But you know what? I don't care! She finally has cloth on!
Guess we'll need to wait for the next night/nap to get our naked pictures quota.

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
Oh, wow! That actually was for vine lady! Why didn't they just use any of the half dozen other solutions they passed before now? If she wanted clothes, why did she just stay naked for, like, a week? This is, somehow, dumber than her staying naked indefinitely.

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
I don't think she had an opinion on cloths one way or the other.
She didn't think she needs them, but also does not object a present.
Supports the "child-like blank mind" theory.

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
See, the correct way to do this is to either give her clothes right away or explain why that's impossible. Mookie did neither. He kept her naked for weeks with no explanation then gave her clothes with no explanation. Why only now? Why couldn't this happen earlier? What makes only these leaves useful for clothes? What about the leaves they used earlier as blankets? Why were those leaves cloth-like enough to serve as blankets but not cloth-like enough to serve as clothes? Why could Snout not acquire the clothing leaves earlier? Did he only decide to makes her clothes now because they were stopped, anyways, from the rain?
It just raises too many questions. If the vine lady had just stayed naked, we could have come up with our own explanations as to why she won't/can't wear clothes, but there is no satisfying explanation for this.Princess Celestia's Homebrew Corner

Re: The Legacy of Dominic Deegan: The Unending Snark
Variable... I remember one scene in which people wondered about his safety, and then realised that he was doing AoE damage with a sword. He also seemed perfectly sure to be able to kill the infernomancer by himself. Later, however, he was scared of that Italian sword-for-hire, and had Szark fight him instead.
Also, about size in the mindscape, this was the image: 0566_20040423.gif (847×287) (dominic-deegan.com)Originally Posted by J.R.R. Tolkien, 1955
